I bought this pen when studying abroad in France. I used it a lot to write and draw. It was cheap but I think it writes smoother than my architect friends' more expensive ones.
I switched to digital and the pen was forgotten until last week. I found it with some ink cartridge, washed it, and it still writes as well as 10 years ago. (sometimes a bit scratchy but maybe it's the ink)
I never remember which pen it is so I take a look and found your video. Thank you.
This fountain pen's been with me for y whole law studies, thanks for the review !
Stumbled across this video moments after ordering a Graduate. I love your folksy, friendly, dad-like demeanor! The Star Trek mug definitely doesn't hurt either!
I was given one for Christmas. I have enjo6ysing it a lot. When people think of you and give you a pen it does make it more special.
This is one of my 2 daiy carry pens. I have a convertor installed and it really enjoy how it writes and how reliable it is to use. Thanks for the review!
I really need to check my spelling!
Greetings from Mexico, excellent review. I bought this master piece at amazon like a month ago or so, i idk why but i wasn't expecting too much and it just shock me how well this pen behave, curious thing is that even i order the chrome model it comes in a "brushed aliminum" finish, an option quite beautiful and equally usefull for those like me that left a lot of fingerprints and get little upset about it. I enjoy your channel a lot keep the good work.
I have been looking for a pen that is no so expensive but with good looks but that might last for a long time and i guess this is it, thanks for the review
Bought a few months ago in Red & Blue...Simple, writes smoothly ....at $10 a piece...What more can you ask for?
Thanks for your review. At that price (especially with the cart/conv being standard international) there's no reason to hesitate!
I have this in matte black, and agree the nib is dreamy smooth. I do find the grip rather slippery and difficult though, somehow (despite rarely ever finding grips slippery). As it is also heavy and uncomfortable on my longest finger, I’ve been contemplating experiments involving something akin to those foam things we used to put on pencils in the 90s, just to be able to keep the writing experience.
The nib and the feed of Waterman Graduate is the same that Waterman Expert mark II. Clip is the same that Waterman Apostrophe and Maestro.

You can use International cartridges for any actual Waterman fountain pen: Pelikan, Caran d'Ache or Mont Blanc cartridges, they are calles international cartridges.
One of my first fountain pens. I own the one with the medium nib in black. I find it gorgeous and enjoying writing with !
You can use international cartridges or converter. I use Pelikan ones. They are goods and I prefer they.
Thank you very much! This video helped me decide I want to buy this pen!
Love that rain.
Aloha from Kauai, Hawaii! I've been enjoying your fountain reviews and just "lurking" in the background! Enjoy your style of presentation, even if you're forced to do it in the workshop! Last year, in my quest to trying the numerous entry level pens, I came across this one as I thought it would be a better choice than the Chinese offerings, which I have a few of too! I also got it in a fine nib (can't remember if it's available with a medium nib?) It writes okay, but I was more impressed with the ink color in the included cartridge. I was told it was Waterman's Serenity Blue, but after buying a bottle of it and trying it in another pen, it looked too light. The blue in the cartridge is much darker and even with the fine writing, I can see a reddish sheen. So I guess the ink must be Waterman's Mysterious Blue? Another bottle of ink to add to my collection! Any thoughts on the ink? I can't be seeing things? Waterman wouldn't use another brand of ink? Would love to hear your thoughts. Keep up the great reviews. Mahalo, Thomas
Experienced the same. Doubt it is another ink used though. Maybe it just behaves differently with the converter. But what I noticed is that if you let the ink dry a bit in the Fountainpen (didn't write with the pen for a while, bad me...) the reddish sheen became way much stronger. I kinda liked the effect, but would not recommend let the pen almost dry out to get that effect ;) It was one of my first "expensive" pens I had bought in France way back in 1990 and still is my favorite to write with. Behaves great with any Ink I recently used it with. Can recommend to use it with the converter, so you get the whole vast of bottled Ink's to choose from O_o B) Greetings from Switzerland
@@victordelafuente5466 , Thanks for taking the time to comment. Just by accident, I inked one of my pens (via converter) a few weeks ago with Serenity Blue and like you said, if you let the pen sit for a few days or maybe longer, sure enough the reddish sheen that is very visible when the light hit's your writing at an angle. I didn't keep the ink in the refilled cartridge long enough to see if it does the same thing and/or take longer. I am very happy to see this characteristic of this ink, but can't say I am very fond of the Waterman pen! Maybe in a medium nib instead of fine? Much appreciate your reply. Mahalo!
@@kauaiphotography Thank you so much! I only have used that ink in cartridges and never came across an bottle with this ink. Germany is more likely to have a bottle of ink than France... I also tend to change my fountainpen now that I have more ;) At the time it was the one more expensive pen I could afford as a first degree student. Maybe it's simply linked with the memories of my youth. Compared to the plastic ones I had, this was my beloved, not scratchy and shiny luxury version in the classroom. A bit like the advertisement: "because you're worth it". Quite brand fixed I never tried to ink another pen with that same ink?!? Maybe I'll try that out soon. But the most important for me: have fun with the things you have and enjoy the little surprises, like that unexpected shine. Up to now, no other ink I came across had that shiny effect, while still being an erasable blue tone you could use in school. Greetings from Switzerland, where 3 country's are so close, you could almost say country and people come together here =)
As always. Brilliant presentation. Nice job.
The one pen in my collection that stays inked! I keep it in a little Lamy notebook in my backpack or computer bag, or it goes in my pocket with the notebook on shopping trips to jot notes. The least expensive fountain pen I ever bought, and I can't bring myself to let it go dry.
Also, the feed are the same that Expert and Harmonie.
This model is more cheap that Expert or Harmonie and it will write the same, I think.
Good review! But one question: do you have a second set of hands sorting the recycling at the exact same time you are doing this review? ;)
Ha, it was raining on the tin roof.
Nice review and nice fountain pen. Stay safe..... 👍
It seems like its position in the market is the same as the Parker Vector and Jotter. How would you compare it to those two and can you think of any other models by established brands at a similar price point?
I would say you're right, it compares right in the same place as the Jotter, and the price is usually better, giving it an advantage. It is also a larger pen than the Jotter, with a more comfortable diameter for those with larger hands. I don't own a Vector, so I can say for certain. It might be a good alternative to the Safari for those who don't like the Safari's grip.
Sigh...the Vector will always be my all time favorite fountain pen. I used one back in the '70's when I was in high school and then I lost it. I found one on Amazon a couple years ago and it's great, but I prefer a medium point. I just found a medium on Amazon a few weeks ago. The thing with Vectors that you have to be aware of is that right now they are made in both France and India. The pens from France come in a box and are excellent quality. The ones from India come on a card and are not that great. So, if you decide to try one, try to make sure that the pen you're buying tells you that it is made in France.
@@mcescher1957 I recently bought one Black Vector form a big reputable seller here in Mexico that comes in a box and states it's made in France but I'm highly dissapointed with the quality of the plastic, so much that I haven't even tried to write with it, I truly prefer the Graduate or my IMs all the way.
They sell it at Super U in France for 8€. It's amazing
Is this pens clip, spring loaded clip? Or repair this clip in old position if become any loose damage?
I'm so confused. The one I bought from the Waterman site on Amazon was a brushed chrome, rather than shiny :(. I just picked it up today, and I can't find any evidence that they have changed the pens recently.
Same thing for me. It seems that the one he has is an older (and made in France) version which is probably of better quality (though I'm not totally sure). I tried a pelikan cartridge after the Waterman and it really is not smooth...maybe it only accepts Waterman ink or maybe it's the paper, what do you think?
Stefano Barbotto Same, the waterman graduate only uses waterman ink cartridges, so keep that in mind... but yeah it is a bit of a disappointment bc of not having the chrome plating, but the nib is actually very good!
I just received one that is more of a brushed chrome as well. I actually prefer the look of the one I received better than the look of the chrome version.
Actually it writes pretty smooth with pelikan cartridges as well, if you come from a Waterman cartridge you have to wait for some days :)
@@byowan1361 No, you're wrong, Waterman is no proprietary form factor, they all take standard international size, I have this, the Phileas and the Hemisphère all equiped with Jinhao converters. Regards.
It was reassuring to learn that the nib is the star of the show because nibs are what Waterman does well. Also ink. It does give pause when you listed some of the owners of the pen brand over the years, boy, Waterman hasn't been lucky. Louis Edson rolled over in his grave. Bic! America's greatest brand, Sheaffer, has suffered equivalent indignities.
7:02 Love that little delightful click!
I bought this pen a couple of months ago. It's a really great pen overall. When I used with the cartidge it came with it worked just fine. I liked it so much I decided to buy the propietary converter. Then trouble started when I loaded with Noodlers Lyberty's Ellysium. It kind of leaked across the feed and it skipped quite a bit and sometimes it was quite hard to get it to start.
I'm planning to give it another chance with a different kind of ink because I really liked how it worked the first time I used it. I'll let you know then
Javier Mazza Waterman ink is excellent: well behaved and inexpensive. It’s a go-to safe ink.
@@cliffordbaker4930 I'm buying a few bottles soon. Noodler's is a great ink too. It only gave me some trouble with this pen.
I have had occasional trouble with certain converters. Have you tried just cleaning out the empty cartridge and refilling that with a syringe? Goulet sells a set of syringes for cheap, and it is so easy. Saved me a lot of money!
Really reminds me of Jinhao 65. Or vice versa.
I bought a waterman fountain pen in2021 . I like to get the fresh cap of this pen . Could anyone tell how a fresh cap I get .
How should I store this on my desk? Horizontally or vertically? I purchased this pen, a first fountain pen for me
You can store them either way, but depending on the pen, you may find one is better than the other. Some pens will dry out some stored nib up, so if that happens, you'll need to store it either nib down or horizontally.
@@JG3Reviews Thank you!
Hi JG3.. I have exaactly the same pen, but the nib & feeder holder (the outer black case) had broken, can you suggest me how to fix it, the feeder bottom resting plane
Experienced some dry outs while starting in the morning. Is this expected or do I have a forfeit?
I haven't had that issue with my Graduate. If it's drying out overnight, that shouldn't be expected. Some inks are more prone. Is it the standard cartridge or another? You might check this out: onepenshow.com/pens/how-to-prevent-fountain-pens-from-drying-out
It's a different ink. Yes this is probably because of the ink, thanks!
is the grip plastic?
Yes, with a slight matte texture.
Nice video, thanks
Hi again sir, is this the same as with the Waterman Graduate Allure?
I'm pretty sure the only difference is the finish.
It reminds me of the Parker Jotter
Great video
This or the Hongdian Black Forest?
On style, I like the Black Forest better, the nibs (I have both in F) I might give to the Waterman, but it's pretty close. I'd say whichever you like the look and feel of best, you probably won't go wrong with either. The Waterman does have the bonus of a 2 year warranty.
Waterman Graduate is very same that Waterman Facette.
I like Waterman Facette; is very pretty forma my.
It is a "school pen", but madre by metal.
...made... I correct it.
I’m OK with that. There are a lot of school pens that are great for EDC.
@@JG3Reviews EDC?
What means E. D. C, please, I do not know.
@@antoniosaiz2102 means every day care !!! Is like a pen for every day use 😉
Nib and section are the dame than Waterman Harmonie. Nib are, also, the dame that Expert. Check it!

I had to use that as a work around since I needed to correct something after upload. Oops!
