    Alex is ranked 266 in the world. Mikka pulled off a major shock in beating him last year - this was a case of 'normal service resumed.'

    Miikkas serves and returns are just not on the level of these guys, because his forehand backhand and footwork isn’t really any worse than Alex’, but serves and returns kinda made the difference here

    Damn, Alex was returning every serve ridiculously well. And he did it while basically doing only forehand. Miikka was using back hand a lot which led to the ball going astray while Alex with his forehand was making some impressive shots. Alex also wasn't using much space around him and was sticking to an area. This was a really good lesson.

    Just work on your flicks, if you ask me, that's how Alex got you. Your flicks are very weak compared to the rest of your game (especially your BH flicks) and mainly set the ball up for Alex. His flicks on the other hand pushed you a lot and he got a few surprise points on you with those as well.

    Blade + each rubber for you, Mikka? Just curious

    • @ttjesus4959
      @ttjesus4959 2 роки тому

      It seems like your BH rubber is a little too soft and has too low of a throw angle for you, not to mention it's too slow. Your blade is probably inner-carbon, which is fine. But, your backhand blocks are way too slow and they land way too shallow.
      I definitely heard you bottom out on the FH in this match too. I really think you need to abandon euro style rubbers on your FH and go with the DHS H3 Neo 40 degree National Blue Sponge. You will really enjoy it, I think. Then, go with something 50 degrees, euro style, and high throwing on the BH, such as the Dignics 05 or the new Donic Bluestorm Pro.
      But, you definitely need to stop blocking when you're in the midrange. Only block when you're close to the table. Once you've backed off, it's okay to back off a tiny bit more in order to hit counters. It's okay if the ball is past its peak in its arc too. This will having you sending back a spinny counter deep, instead of a neutral/flat, shallow block. This is why I say use the National Blue Sponge H3 Neo on the FH. Then, you'll be able to counter with extreme spin. And you'll actually feel comfortable from the midrange, and you won't be throwing in blocks from back there.
      (This is all coming from a real coach fyi)

    • @ttjesus4959
      @ttjesus4959 2 роки тому

      I don't want to see you block so passively with your FH from so far back EVER AGAIN! You have 2 options: 1. Stay closer to the table and block, or 2. Swing counters from the midrange. Back up until you can hit counters.
      Also, I see you snapping at the ball, trying to hit with everything you've got all in one snapping set of motions. Instead, you should prepare your feet earlier and try to start your motion as early as possible.
      And just reviewing this tape a little more tells me that breaking your habit of blocking is going to be hard to do. So, you need to put a lot of training time into staying close like Waldner, even when they're driving the ball hard, and blocking the ball into good positions and stealing the attack from your opponent.
      Also, STOP TRYING TO LOOP WHEN THE BALL IS ALREADY HIGHER THAN THE NET WHEN YOU'RE MAKING CONTACT! Tilt your racket angle extra extreme to the FH and just drive that ball. And instead of going for the inside-out FH, go for the sidespinning hook FH to the other corner just like Waldner.
      Just remember though: When the ball is higher than the net when you're making contact, drive it deep on the table and immediately hop about 6 inches backward with both feet. When the ball is the same height, or lower than the net when making contact, go for wicked spins. And you don't need to clobber those heavy spinning loops either. You just need them to have heavy spin and be pretty deep on the table. And don't forget that going at someone's middle is even more effective than going wide. And heavy spin is always more effective than a lot of speed.
