Whoever said planting pumpkins for a market garden was as easy as putting seeds in the ground? Great job Zawada Family! Now you need to get hay in the barn.

Neat Zawada Farm family video Mike, fun watching all the hard work that goes into the pumpkin patch. Will the great pumpkin rise from the patch on Halloween eve? 👍👏😊

Hey just a quick question, why water straight down the whole row if the pumpkins are planted on mounds every few feet? Why not just water the mounds?

I live in Vermont . We are ready to buy or start a farm . Planting corn and pumpkins. What is the approximate size of your patch ? We are deciding if we want to sell to the public 5-10 acres or buy a bigger piece of land 10- 20 acres and sell wholesale . Any suggestions ? I can buy any piece of equipment I would need . I just want a successful crop . A!so how often do you water ? I know that's a hard question to ask because of many variables . Just an estimate would be appreciated. I hope to get a response and good luck !!!

Hello, great to hear from you. We are planting 5 acres because of the convenience of the location. Road frontage would be nice, people love to watch the progress. Remember, whatever size patch you plant you’re going to have to harvest it! They get heavy quick. The water question is tricky, we rely on Mother Nature to do that job. Lots of rain, great crop. If irrigation is an option, I would think 20 minute daily showers. We plant by hand because of our family size and the style of row we like. That all can change depending upon how you map out your field! We want plenty of room to cultivate in between the rows so it doesn’t turn into a weed patch. Hope this helps.👍

I mentioned several types in the harvesting video; Connecticut fields, Howden, flat whites and Jarrahdale!
