I worked on long-line deep-water oyster farms for yrs and sea cucumbers were just one of many interesting animals that came aboard during oyster harvests. Little crabs & mini eel-like critters called blennies were also hiding in and dropping from lines of oyster clusters. Baby starfish often attached too, along with scallops etc
As a bio major its so wild seeing how random the amount of love each species might get. Normal species with lots of bio lore? 5 min video. REALLY cool sea cucumber but little known? 13 minutes❤

It's honestly kind of accurate. Vomiting involves the muscles of your esophagus working backwards to push your stomach contents out (which is not what they're usually doing, and hence why you often feel sore after vomiting). That kind of motion is pretty much how that particular sea cucumber was moving.

All my life I've had zero interest in sea life, insects, & science-y stuff in general... until stumbling onto this channel a few years ago. I love this guy's delivery. I had a sea cucumber in my reef tank as a clean up crew and within a few months I saw it was smaller and shriveled up. But I also then realized that there was another sea cucumber and I kept finding more and more smaller ones. I didn’t know that they can also split like that it was very interesting to see.
As a biologist (albeit an ecologist, not a marine zoologist) seeing sea cucumber species I'd never seen before and sea cucumber body plans I didn't know existed in those shapes was a thrill. Hard to tell some of them apart from nudibranches at first glance.
Why have I not seen this guy before?? He's both educational AND hilarious! This is how education should be taught, not by boring your class/audience, but by making it both interesting AND funny! We'd LOVE to learn every day if stuff was represented this way for any and all subjects!

Man, your writing is always incredible, but this one has been particularly hilarious! I think it's often understated how amazingly humour works as a supporting element when teaching, especially with how well you integrate it into the actual facts without breaking the flow and how everyman they are, nothing intentionally flying over anyone's heads, because "Ass+" and "looks like how it feels to vomit" have taken up long-term lodging in my skull for the foreseeable future. I’ve just stumbled upon this channel and at first I thought, “what the heck am I watching?” And then hit subscribe and watched 10 more videos. Was crying with laughter at the end. Love it!

Most things that brought joy 1-2 decades ago don´t even have a dark corner in my memory anymore but for some reason zefranks work is so good that I find - for example - this episode to be even better than some that came before. Weird thing is I think that about every episode.
So, when I was a tiny thing, maybe 8 years old, my class went on a fieldtrip to the aquarium. There, we learned about the sea cucumber, and how it can "throw up its stomach." But we were also told that kissing a sea cucumber *without* it throwing up its stomach would give you ten years if good luck. Long story short, when I was 8, I kissed a sea cucumber in front of all my classmates.
LMAO I didn't expect this much interest. The sea cucumber was a perfect gentle-creature, and kept its insides inside. But I think the ten years of good luck were delayed, cuz those didn't hit until a few years later. :p
Another fantastic entry. Do you think we'd ever get a video on Lepidoptera? Butterflies and Moths have so much to offer for one of these from the process inside their bodies during metamorphosis to some species eating their own babies to attract females. I could give more details on this but I'd hate to spoil the people in the comment section and make this long awaited entry redundant.

Hey, I don't know if you read your comments, but I wanted to thank you. I grew up in Austin, and I just moved to American Samoa, and it was very cool learning about Merlin Tuttle. This man made a difference in two places that I have lived, and I'd never have heard of him if it wasn't for your fascinating video on bats. I tell everyone here about Merlin Tuttle any time the topic of bats comes up. The bats here are so amazing and beautiful, and knowing that they could have gone extinct without Merlin Tuttle makes me appreciate them even more.
Being an old, old scuba diver, know these creatures pretty well, they are so fascinating. But Mr Zefrank, I learn so much more from, it must be the hysterical laughter that make me retain so much more. Love it...

I am amazed that this sentence actually makes sense.
It's honestly kind of accurate. Vomiting involves the muscles of your esophagus working backwards to push your stomach contents out (which is not what they're usually doing, and hence why you often feel sore after vomiting). That kind of motion is pretty much how that particular sea cucumber was moving.
I've been waiting for this ever since you briefly touched on them during the sea pig video. They're such fascinatingly weird creatures. Also, "Take that you asstropod!" Hilarious.
All my life I've had zero interest in sea life, insects, & science-y stuff in general... until stumbling onto this channel a few years ago. I love this guy's delivery. His voice & humor make it enjoyable to listen to & I actually learn new things. I'm almost 60, & I've learned more watching this channel than I ever did throughout all 12 years of schooling, LOL!
This episode got a few really good laughs out of me. Im so happy this series is back, I feel like I'm 12 watching the anglerfish episode again

I had a sea cucumber in my reef tank as a clean up crew and within a few months I saw it was smaller and shriveled up. But I also then realized that there was another sea cucumber and I kept finding more and more smaller ones. I didn’t know that they can also split like that it was very interesting to see.

As a biologist (albeit an ecologist, not a marine zoologist) seeing sea cucumber species I'd never seen before and sea cucumber body plans I didn't know existed in those shapes was a thrill. Hard to tell some of them apart from nudibranches at first glance.
Why have I not seen this guy before?? He's both educational AND hilarious!

Man, your writing is always incredible, but this one has been particularly hilarious! I think it's often understated how amazingly humour works as a supporting element when teaching, especially with how well you integrate it into the actual facts without breaking the flow and how everyman they are, nothing intentionally flying over anyone's heads, because "Ass+" and "looks like how it feels to vomit" have taken up long-term lodging in my skull for the foreseeable future. Most things that brought joy 1-2 decades ago don´t even have a dark corner in my memory anymore but for some reason zefranks work is so good that I find - for example - this episode to be even better than some that came before. Weird thing is I think that about every episode.

So, when I was a tiny thing, maybe 8 years old, my class went on a fieldtrip to the aquarium. There, we learned about the sea cucumber, and how it can "throw up its stomach." But we were also told that kissing a sea cucumber *without* it throwing up its stomach would give you ten years if good luck.
Long story short, when I was 8, I kissed a sea cucumber in front of all my classmates.

Another fantastic entry. Do you think we'd ever get a video on Lepidoptera? Butterflies and Moths have so much to offer for one of these from the process inside their bodies during metamorphosis to some species eating their own babies to attract females. I could give more details on this but I'd hate to spoil the people in the comment section and make this long awaited entry redundant.

Hey, I don't know if you read your comments, but I wanted to thank you. I grew up in Austin, and I just moved to American Samoa, and it was very cool learning about Merlin Tuttle. This man made a difference in two places that I have lived, and I'd never have heard of him if it wasn't for your fascinating video on bats. I tell everyone here about Merlin Tuttle any time the topic of bats comes up. The bats here are so amazing and beautiful, and knowing that they could have gone extinct without Merlin Tuttle makes me appreciate them even more.
