In my opinion, farcry 4 does a better job of making it's weapons feel powerful (with sharper sounds, better muzzle flash, and more kick to the animations) making the gun play more enjoyable.
I like FC5 a lot but it does feel like a downgraded, dumbed down experience compared to FC 3 & 4. Combine that with the fact that Far Cry 5 has very bad optimization and dips below 60 fps on literally everything because for some reason it refuses to fully utilize your CPU
Farcry 4 was based on our country's landscape. It is pretty accurate with all the terrains and even the radio music. Ubisoft really did their homework.
But it shouldn't just look good, it should evolve. There's no reason behind the tree and bush physics being removed other than the limitations on consoles. They shouldn't of downgraded it on PC's at least.
you dont play a lot of games, dont you? it looks good, no doubt, but I've seen way better things in games, not to mention the missing of global ilumination makes that scene look horrible
The reason that muzzle flashes aren't as prevalent in far cry 5 is because muzzle flashes are actually pretty rare with real weapons and are mostly only seen for a split-second and with sustained automatic fire. Most of the time, you only see a bit of smoke.
Weapons on far cry 4 echo more but they both sound realistic. I just like far cry 5 sounds more and you hear the shell casings drop in fc4 which is nice.

FC5's inconsistency in shadows is more realistic. A tree shadow should look like that because you don't have perfectly sharp shadows everywhere in real life. The greater the distance between 2 objects the more blurry a shadow becomes. We are just used to associate blurry shadows with low quality in games. good vid anyway :)
I think you misinterpreted what i was talking about. Im not saying soft shadows look bad, look closely at the footage of fc5s shadows. The leaf stems are not being properly projected via shadows like in fc4. It almost seems like a bug. Also, shadows would appear sharp like that if the object was close to the ground, which in fc4s case the leaves are relatively close due to the shorter trees. The tall trees in fc5 would show softer shadows, but then why are all the bushes showing the same softness level?
Firstly, no. That's how it should look. You shouldn't be able to see the leaf stems. secondly, the tree would have to be really close to the ground for the shadow to look like in FC4. Lastly, you might be right. The shadow of bushes shouldn't have the same softness as trees, but I can't check if they have. I'm basing my comments only on what you have shown in your video. And that is tree shadows.
I hated playing farcry 5 but I loved exploring, anything that I can do in real life like fly fishing and hiking and walking through forests and along rivers was fun, plus the game has a really good soundtrack.
Thanks for comparisons, you are 100% right. Pity for environment, to me the best environment I’ve ever seen was in Dying Light. Lots of particles and dust, smoke & etc flying all over the free space, making the game looking brilliant, even 2 years ago...
Nykk Deetronic Yes, it truly looked amazing but i hated the fact that it ran at an uncapped 30-60 fps. It almost never hit 60 fps so there were constant dips. The PS Pro and XboxOX has less of this but it still appears. I rather have an option to choose between uncapped or capped and 30 or 60 fps. Still amazing game, ;)
Tommy Johnson, the uncapped framerate in Dying Light is some kind of bug that came with the newest update. It was capped before. I'm a PC gamer so I don't know if it has been fixed.

The biggest oof in FC5's graphics is the non reactive enviornment such as the trees not moving by helicopters or explosions, also they dont sway as much. It makes the game not as immersive As fc4

OK, here is something people forget, farcry4 you are in a Valley which make different gun sound unlike farcry5 where your mainly in the open flat land.
SageFox in far cry 4 the guns had “distinct” sounds which is actually unrealistic. I’ve shot more guns than I can count and other than .22’s which sound really quiet wit earplugs on and the SKS and Semi auto AK variants that I’ve shot which do have a distinct “thump” sound, other guns all sound pretty much exactly the same, making a loud “bang” that just sounds like an explosion

fc4 is based in himalays and in a cold wheather, ice reflects sound making the environment more quite.....that changes the gun sound fc5 is in open lands so gun sounds are not that high

You have to know that the gun noises are so different because of the terrain. In Far cry 4 the echo is much more noticeable because of the mountains and less in Far cry 5. The developers probably took this into account to make it more realistic
I also think that I may be crazy but in fc4 there seems to be a small trail of smoke behind the arrow the only reason I can think of this happening is because you are up in the mountains and maybe that is the arrow going through clouds up at that height.
No I don't but because there's been trends of sequels carrying sometimes even the exact same assets as their predecessors or worse graphics. Jumps in graphics tend to happen especially with new console hardware, console hardware because no one in the AAA industry develops their games for the PC anymore.
Yup. Completely agree. A 4 year gap would normally be a massive difference between the 2. However, ubisoft has always been a company that is slow and steady with its graphics. Always have been good looking games, but when the bar is so high, the improvements over the years don't seem so drastic.

I didn't get Far Cry 4 until years after release and thought that the game was going to look dated. but when I booted it up I was shocked to find one of the most amazing looking games I've ever played. It was so well optimized, played great, and is so beautiful. When I then got Far Cry 5 I was really disappointed. It wasn't nearly as well optimized and actually looked worse.
You forgot to mention up on release of both games, FC4 had so many performance issues, alot of troubleshooting to get decent fps, even today FC5 gives you more fps then FC4, i did notice FC5 released smooth as butter in game performance
Code red, that simply isn't true. Even with a gtx 1080ti, FC4 is a difficult game to run. FC5 is about 50% faster in terms of performance on the maximum settings.

It is disappointing how graphically dumbed down 5 is compared to 4, and especially 2, but overall I find it to be the more enjoyable game than either of them so far. It's some of the most fun I've had in the series since Blood Dragon. Apparently the context of this video and my reply no more than 3 comments in weren't enough for some people. By graphically dumbed down, I mean the little details. Far Cry 5 looks better on the surface level, but is missing a lot of little things and world interactivity that add to the immersion.
Man a lot of people must LOVE FC2. Having just replayed it along with the other entries, I just don't get it. I guess people really liked the ability to pull a map out of their pocket? In terms of technical prowess, FC2 didn't age very well, and a sweetfx mod needs to be applied just to make it look like a normal game. Animations are awkward, and for some reason, the audio files for voice over are strung together so quickly everyone speaks without pausing. It's so weird.

far cry 2, 3, 4, primal & 5 all run on "dunya engine" ... just modified/improved (or perhaps downgraded in some areas) ... and it's actually a ubisoft modified version of cryengine ... you know... Crysis n such

FC5 sounds are better, I mean, shotguns don't sound like cannons in real life, plus, the muzzle flash in FC5 is a bit more realistic, when you shoot a shotgun you're not gonna have crazy sparks flying out of your gun, except if you're shooting incendiary rounds.

5 would have been more enjoyable and immersive if it had some of the effects from 4, like trees reacting to explosions, trees reacting to wind, embers and better smoke from fires, etc.

Well, I wouldn't say the world in FC3 is better, but : • The game is mentioned "jungle" in many times, and yet the jungle in the game is not a real jungle. Trust me, I'm an Indonesian. • Beautiful sea and sunset, but lack of waves. • the cliff is too smooth. • the trees is too small.

You’ve obviously have never fired a REAL shotgun, handgun, or rifle before have you. BB Guns and Paintball guns don’t count. FarCry 4 gun sounds are spot on. Guns are very loud when you fire them with ALOT of BASS involved which is why people where earplugs and earmuff protectors when firing. So you are completely wrong in your assessment.
Personally I feel like FC4 animations are smoother. The takedowns and movements like climbing, running, shooting, ect all just feel smoother to me in FC4 🤷♂️ Not to mention FC4 has way better takedown animations, and actually gutting animals you kill and skin is pretty cool. Not sure why it was taken out.

I own a good amount of firearms and it isn’t very realistic in video games but I I played both FC4 and FC5. FC5 has better weapon sounds then FC4 gun sounds seem way to overboard with firearm sounds unrealistic and for the texture I love the texture the game was just released so there still working on it so stop judging it as it just came out...

the worst for me are the explosions downgrade. explosions in fc4 and 3 were fucking cool and punchy, this shit is just pathetic. Overall FC5 does have significantly better graphics though, despite static bushes and trees
A few words on the weapon sounds: I think it's an unfair comparison, if we are comparing accuracy of sound. The clips of FC 5 were in a large, open field whereas the clips of FC 4 were at a high-altitude mountainous area. Both environs are drastically different. The open field lends to more dissipation and dispersion of sound, which is the reason why the gunshots lack the oomph. The mountains are highly reflective and resonant surfaces, which lend to the buildup of lower frequencies and echoing, which always helps with the fullness of a particular sound. Hence, neither is better or worse, but environmentally different. Maybe testing the FC 5 guns in the mountainous regions will yield similar sounds.
Your shadow comparison doesn't sit right with me because the shadows in FC5 are intentionally blurred the further the object casting the shadow is from the ground, just like real life. Objects casting shadows that are closer to the surface the shadow is cast on will look sharper and more detailed.
Honestly, I like the dynamism in FC5 far more than anything in FC4, keeps me entertained for a long time to see random characters drive around and have their car break down, get out and wait for their engine to cool down and then get in and drive off again (or get attacked by cultists)
The environmental differences in quality are probably due to the map size difference tbh. I doubt Ubisoft made a conscious effort to make the game look worse by comparison.

look at FC5 As a Beta you bought for $100. I bought 3, 2 for console one for PC. They are adding Updates all the time, FC5 IS superior hands down, especially in 4K. PC.
That might explain weird fps drops I get. I'm using nvidia and I get FPS drops not when I fight (which would be normal because number of hitboxes) but when I'm walking around randomly. It felt like an optimization issue.

I feel like when EVERYTHING has sharp detailed focus simultaneously, it just looks weird. Eyeballs don’t work that way. You can only focus on one depth at a time. So if the hands and weapon are sharply focussed, the trees in the distance are sharply focussed, and any enemies wandering around are also focussed....its just weird, or seems unnatural. I agree that a lot of FC4 looks better here on PC. I’m on PS4, and I will say that FC5 looks better on console, and by quite a bit. FC4 looks like its overcontrasted. FC5’s environment and especially the appearance of enemies is much improved in FC5. So perhaps Ubisoft chose to optimize for console on FC5? I just downloaded the season pass for FC5 on sale, and am looking forward to playing FC3 which comes with it. I’d never played any FC games until a few months ago when I got FC5 for $15, and enjoyed it, so I grabbed FC4 also. Overall, the gameplay is very enjoyable. Its pretty obvious that FC5 looks better on console though. I’m on standard PS4 Slim BTW, so just 1080p with variable frame rate.

Far Cry 4 included a lot of effects that where tied to nvidia development API's including performance enhancements in NVIDIA Cards. Far Cry 5 is neutral in that aspect as AMD does not have propietary graphics tech.

Far Cry 4 is a very Desolate game setting in which you are thrown into the wilderness to find members of the gang, Far Cry 5 is NOT a desolate game, you go there by choice, and you see that it isn't a wilderness but actually a thriving community of cult members, This is why the two games are different, the gun models are updated as it is more in the future than FC4, and the guns aren't so beat up due to the setting of the game, The weather is much different in both games, as that is why the trees aren't the same, ours is supposed to be menacingly stagnant, as to show a sense of gloom. And IMO, the guns and their sounds/muzzle flash looks WAY more realistic than FC4's, There's was just a little over the top..

Sounds of fc4 & fc5 are drastically different in their own way because in the fc4 sound is mirror effect due to mountain on the other hand fc5 you hear the single sounds due to the flat terrain
It needs to be taken note of that small details like trees blowing in wind and bushes moving when you touch them really do add to the game. They shouldn't be neglected if at all possible.

Maybe the guns and that sounds different... But you turned down the volume in 5 so it sounded like 4 had more details in volume... Farcry 4 conveys a sense of realism more, it feels more like a situation that could happen irl compared to FC5. The area of the world where FC4 is has had civil unrest issues as well as terrorist issues with the Taliban and Isis, which just makes it feel like a more realistic and scary scenario

Far cry 4 is about the good known as Golden path, they are rebels who going against Pagan min and his armies. Royal armies are nothing like Taliban, they are military, lol. FC5 uses soft shadows to simulate how real shadows behave, that's why it looks crisper in FC4, but less accurate.
Tomiply fc4 has soft shadows too. Iirc it has a few settings for it including percentage closer soft shadows.
Tomiply shadows depend on weather and time of day so both of them are pretty interchangeable

FC5's inconsistency in shadows is more realistic. A tree shadow should look like that because you don't have perfectly sharp shadows everywhere in real life. The greater the distance between 2 objects the more blurry a shadow becomes. We are just used to associate blurry shadows with low quality in games. good vid anyway :)

I think you misinterpreted what i was talking about. Im not saying soft shadows look bad, look closely at the footage of fc5s shadows. The leaf stems are not being properly projected via shadows like in fc4. It almost seems like a bug. Also, shadows would appear sharp like that if the object was close to the ground, which in fc4s case the leaves are relatively close due to the shorter trees. The tall trees in fc5 would show softer shadows, but then why are all the bushes showing the same softness level?
Firstly, no. That's how it should look. You shouldn't be able to see the leaf stems. secondly, the tree would have to be really close to the ground for the shadow to look like in FC4. Lastly, you might be right. The shadow of bushes shouldn't have the same softness as trees, but I can't check if they have. I'm basing my comments only on what you have shown in your video. And that is tree shadows.
Whatever realistic or not the end result is that it looks bad in farcry 5.

I hated playing farcry 5 but I loved exploring, anything that I can do in real life like fly fishing and hiking and walking through forests and along rivers was fun, plus the game has a really good soundtrack.

Nykk Deetronic Yes, it truly looked amazing but i hated the fact that it ran at an uncapped 30-60 fps. It almost never hit 60 fps so there were constant dips. The PS Pro and XboxOX has less of this but it still appears.
I rather have an option to choose between uncapped or capped and 30 or 60 fps.

Tommy Johnson, the uncapped framerate in Dying Light is some kind of bug that came with the newest update. It was capped before. I'm a PC gamer so I don't know if it has been fixed.

SageFox in far cry 4 the guns had “distinct” sounds which is actually unrealistic. I’ve shot more guns than I can count and other than .22’s which sound really quiet wit earplugs on and the SKS and Semi auto AK variants that I’ve shot which do have a distinct “thump” sound, other guns all sound pretty much exactly the same, making a loud “bang” that just sounds like an explosion
The Colt .45 in 4 sounds more realistic than 5. I like how the guns in 4 have a very definitive percussive sound.

You have to know that the gun noises are so different because of the terrain. In Far cry 4 the echo is much more noticeable because of the mountains and less in Far cry 5. The developers probably took this into account to make it more realistic

I also think that I may be crazy but in fc4 there seems to be a small trail of smoke behind the arrow the only reason I can think of this happening is because you are up in the mountains and maybe that is the arrow going through clouds up at that height.

I played FC2, FC3, FC4 and FC4 was my favourite. I just wasn't convinced to play FC5. The location didn't feel quite inteesting.
I didn't get Far Cry 4 until years after release and thought that the game was going to look dated. but when I booted it up I was shocked to find one of the most amazing looking games I've ever played. It was so well optimized, played great, and is so beautiful. When I then got Far Cry 5 I was really disappointed. It wasn't nearly as well optimized and actually looked worse.
Farcry 5 has a way more realistic sound on the guns.

You forgot to mention up on release of both games, FC4 had so many performance issues, alot of troubleshooting to get decent fps, even today FC5 gives you more fps then FC4, i did notice FC5 released smooth as butter in game performance

It is disappointing how graphically dumbed down 5 is compared to 4, and especially 2, but overall I find it to be the more enjoyable game than either of them so far. It's some of the most fun I've had in the series since Blood Dragon.

By graphically dumbed down, I mean the little details. Far Cry 5 looks better on the surface level, but is missing a lot of little things and world interactivity that add to the immersion.
Man a lot of people must LOVE FC2. Having just replayed it along with the other entries, I just don't get it. I guess people really liked the ability to pull a map out of their pocket?
In terms of technical prowess, FC2 didn't age very well, and a sweetfx mod needs to be applied just to make it look like a normal game. Animations are awkward, and for some reason, the audio files for voice over are strung together so quickly everyone speaks without pausing. It's so weird.

I disagree with the sounds, FarCry 4 has more loud Hollywood-esc sound effects. Where 5 opts for more realism, but both games have sound that reacts really well to the environment.

You’ve obviously have never fired a REAL shotgun, handgun, or rifle before have you. BB Guns and Paintball guns don’t count. FarCry 4 gun sounds are spot on. Guns are very loud when you fire them with ALOT of BASS involved which is why people where earplugs and earmuff protectors when firing. So you are completely wrong in your assessment.

Personally I feel like FC4 animations are smoother. The takedowns and movements like climbing, running, shooting, ect all just feel smoother to me in FC4 🤷♂️ Not to mention FC4 has way better takedown animations, and actually gutting animals you kill and skin is pretty cool. Not sure why it was taken out.

I own a good amount of firearms and it isn’t very realistic in video games but I I played both FC4 and FC5. FC5 has better weapon sounds then FC4 gun sounds seem way to overboard with firearm sounds unrealistic and for the texture I love the texture the game was just released so there still working on it so stop judging it as it just came out...

A few words on the weapon sounds: I think it's an unfair comparison, if we are comparing accuracy of sound. The clips of FC 5 were in a large, open field whereas the clips of FC 4 were at a high-altitude mountainous area. Both environs are drastically different. The open field lends to more dissipation and dispersion of sound, which is the reason why the gunshots lack the oomph. The mountains are highly reflective and resonant surfaces, which lend to the buildup of lower frequencies and echoing, which always helps with the fullness of a particular sound. Hence, neither is better or worse, but environmentally different. Maybe testing the FC 5 guns in the mountainous regions will yield similar sounds.
Your shadow comparison doesn't sit right with me because the shadows in FC5 are intentionally blurred the further the object casting the shadow is from the ground, just like real life. Objects casting shadows that are closer to the surface the shadow is cast on will look sharper and more detailed.

What about the shit list of available weapons in far cry 5? It is a downgrade if you compare that with 4. fuk the idea of having 5 weapons with the same stats with a different paint job? No one is even bothered with this?

look at FC5 As a Beta you bought for $100. I bought 3, 2 for console one for PC. They are adding Updates all the time,

Problem is fc4 had nvidia gameworks, for those beautiful shadows, dynamic foliage and smoke. Fc5 is optimized for AMD. That is why fc4 looks better
That might explain weird fps drops I get. I'm using nvidia and I get FPS drops not when I fight (which would be normal because number of hitboxes) but when I'm walking around randomly. It felt like an optimization issue.
AND is a shitfest, and nvidia is way overpriced now due to no competition.
Gameworks had shadows and hair, it had nothing to do with foliage genius. In fact, Far Cry 2 had reactive foliage that would catch on fire, was that a gameworks product?
Considering ur in a cold windy environment in far cry 4 they will sway more in far cry 5 ur in a county surrounded by giant mountains u will have hardly any wind so it’s fine

When you crouch in FC 5, the gun looks very nice. Also the landscape in FC 5 is beutiful
I feel like when EVERYTHING has sharp detailed focus simultaneously, it just looks weird. Eyeballs don’t work that way. You can only focus on one depth at a time. So if the hands and weapon are sharply focussed, the trees in the distance are sharply focussed, and any enemies wandering around are also focussed....its just weird, or seems unnatural.
I agree that a lot of FC4 looks better here on PC. I’m on PS4, and I will say that FC5 looks better on console, and by quite a bit. FC4 looks like its overcontrasted. FC5’s environment and especially the appearance of enemies is much improved in FC5.
So perhaps Ubisoft chose to optimize for console on FC5? I just downloaded the season pass for FC5 on sale, and am looking forward to playing FC3 which comes with it. I’d never played any FC games until a few months ago when I got FC5 for $15, and enjoyed it, so I grabbed FC4 also.
Overall, the gameplay is very enjoyable. Its pretty obvious that FC5 looks better on console though. I’m on standard PS4 Slim BTW, so just 1080p with variable frame rate.

Tudor Cristian Enache no he’s not. I wish it were different, but some of the fc3 stuff is legit copy paste. Even all of the weapons are are the same in both games, with fc4 adding in some new ones.

Far Cry 4 included a lot of effects that where tied to nvidia development API's including performance enhancements in NVIDIA Cards. Far Cry 5 is neutral in that aspect as AMD does not have propietary graphics tech.

Far Cry 4 is a very Desolate game setting in which you are thrown into the wilderness to find members of the gang,
Far Cry 5 is NOT a desolate game, you go there by choice, and you see that it isn't a wilderness but actually a thriving community of cult members, This is why the two games are different, the gun models are updated as it is more in the future than FC4, and the guns aren't so beat up due to the setting of the game, The weather is much different in both games, as that is why the trees aren't the same, ours is supposed to be menacingly stagnant, as to show a sense of gloom. And IMO, the guns and their sounds/muzzle flash looks WAY more realistic than FC4's, There's was just a little over the top..

Yes the accidental hero part of Farcry is missing. Primal and 5 lack this. AI in farcry 2 was better. The enemy chased you down relentlessly. Running away from you to get vehicles to go after you

Sounds of fc4 & fc5 are drastically different in their own way because in the fc4 sound is mirror effect due to mountain on the other hand fc5 you hear the single sounds due to the flat terrain

It needs to be taken note of that small details like trees blowing in wind and bushes moving when you touch them really do add to the game. They shouldn't be neglected if at all possible.
Why did you turn down the music when the Far Cry 5 sounds was playing? If you didnt it's probaly just me but i swear it sounds like theres a big Sound different. Maybe the guns and that sounds different... But you turned down the volume in 5 so it sounded like 4 had more details in volume... Sry if im wrong in this statement but it just sounds like you did that. Oh and you put your background music over the Far Cry 5 part which you removed in 4...

Farcry 4 conveys a sense of realism more, it feels more like a situation that could happen irl compared to FC5. The area of the world where FC4 is has had civil unrest issues as well as terrorist issues with the Taliban and Isis, which just makes it feel like a more realistic and scary scenario
Well, Far cry 4 doesn’t set in Middle East and Afghanistan. It set in Himalaya mountain and Nepal. It looks nothing like civil unrest and terrorist issue. Far cry 4 is about the good known as Golden path, they are rebels who going against Pagan min and his armies. Royal armies are nothing like Taliban, they are military, lol. It looks nothing like Real world event.

The sounds in both the games are different because on one way he's on himalayas where sound echos and on the other hand grasslands
Both the games has perfect sound quality of gun shot....as the comparing to the places (mountains and plains) both really matches with conditions👍👌
