This legit never gets old. Some folks watch that train wreck O Holy Night but this is my guilty pleasure. I've shown this to SO many people. Probably because I'm a professional musician.
well, hey! this opera is in plain English, Not Benjamin Britten English, nor is it in French, Italian, German, Russian, or Czech! English is hard for opera singers. 🤣
I might be alone in enjoying this! It's really funny and charming. A perfectly enjoyable arrangement realised by a fine orchestra and four plainly talented singers not taking themselves seriously and coming together for a light hearted and infectiously joyful rendition of a well-known, loved song in a surprising context. It's not stylistically appropriate and the accents are chaotic, but they're all devoting their skill and collective experience to spreading a bit of Christmas joy. I say "bravo!" :)
I'm sorry but the Baritone and the mezzo are awfull, they would sound as bad in a operatic situation. if that's how people imagine opera singers must sound that's quite sad.... The tenor is alright despite the comically bad english and the soprano well....can't really judge.
This video is so catchy that, despite not having watched it for a couple of years, I just WHAMMED myself by remembering it in the middle of an otherwise regular conversation. It's actually a great arrangement. The perfect trumpet section "doot" gets me every time.
This is hilarious. I am convinced the singers, particularly the soprano are taking the mickey out of it. Jeepers. The very thick and strange accents for English are also amusing!!!
I also come back to it and reshare this every year for the same reason. It puts a smile on my face. Considering my past history of depression, this actually lifts me up in an awkward way!
Ooooh I used to sing on this exact stage as a kid. So glad I've discovered this gem of a video, it makes me feel... things. Will be my new guilty pleasure
For some reason, it's growing on me. I mean, sure, it's an absolute choas and at the end the silver lady sounds like a laughing turkey, but you can hear they're having fun and their joy is contagious
Everyone has the measure of this farcical arrangement (which will have done the careers of the four singers absolutely no harm whatever - hats off to them !!).
proof of the adage that just because you can doesn't mean you should - hysterical - can't tell if the soloists understand the self-parody of their form
I hate this so much that it actually comes full circle and is just fun enjoyment for me to watch 😂 I hope that’s not too harsh; I respect the musicianship and dedication of all involved, I just think it is stylistically an abysmal choice, but hey! That makes it terribly funny and quite entertaining nonetheless!
It's really not though. Opera singers have to take language diction (i.e. pronunciation) classes at music school, like not just Italian but specifically Italian diction. And German. And French. Because that's what most classical music is written in. European opera singers also learn those same languages, and not English.
This is laugh out loud. In literally every way. They sound like chickens gobbling & garbling. They look like they are twitching and contorting as well.
I can’t stop watching this. It’s like watching a car crash with a glass of fine champagne...
well said, Jonathan.
I'm literally replaying it again and again hahahaha
@@connorwhitmore5400 lol
Like watching a car crash...into a shop...with a glass of champagne
Me too. I’m obsessed with it it’s just so awful. I never cease to laugh out loud. It’s a real tonic!
"Once bitten and twice shy" by the tenor SENDS me

I am glad you like it, Adam. 😂
Adam, gett off UA-cam!!! I know you love this rendition ;)
As a classical singer, I will say this is absolutely delicious. 🤣🤣🤣
Omg what is that oh holy night video
I love the soprano--she seems so happy just to toss her hair and trill "AAAAHHHHH" over and over.
lol!
She got her fulllll finger right up her HOO ha 🎉loving life
It's the forced smiles while she's holding the last bit of her ahh that does it for me.
At 0:57 😂
Every year, I just keep coming back. So bad it's sublime
No one told me the mezzo would be Blanche from the Golden Girls.
😂
That’s totally what I thought!!! 😂
“Big Daddy always told me I was good at screaming. 😘”
OH MY GOSH!!!!!
@@willlarche SHUT UP!!! 😂
I like that fact that they have to read the lyrics.

I will never be able to not watch this each Christmas season. A guilty pleasure I can't escape 🤣💓
This and Patty Labelle with no background singers are my favorite christmas traditions.
Same!

Uh the doot! I love it too. And the quiet marimba.
That trumpet bit is the best thing about this.
You only get "Whammed" by the original, so you're safe here!
It's punctuation!
"Tell me Betty, do you recognize him?" "Well, it's beenlks lincht, eblwkeneyzt me"
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣💀🤦♂
0:32, 0:37 look at that violinist behind her 😂
OMG!!!!!!! 🤣
OMFG AHAHAHAHAHA
Hahahahahah!!! I have watched this two hundred thousand times and NEVER SAW THAT!!! 😅😅😅😅😅
This is hilarious. I am convinced the singers, particularly the soprano are taking the mickey out of it. Jeepers. The very thick and strange accents for English are also amusing!!!
Every time I listen to that opening verse, I’m expecting him to sing ‘sumvun special’
It is so mesmerisingly awful I just adore it
I also come back to it and reshare this every year for the same reason. It puts a smile on my face. Considering my past history of depression, this actually lifts me up in an awkward way!
ICONIC BEHAVIOUR. Lady second from right is SENDING ME
After around 1:00 does he sing "Once bitten but twice shy, escaping diesel, but you're still thirty-five"? I can't hear it any other way! 😁
I can't!🤣🤣🤣
Blanche sounds amazing
Thank you for making me laugh out loud 😂

Yeah they're just not together at all at the end as the tenor milks the shit out of his top G. So bad it's good. 🤣
I have watched this so many times today. It's epic.
It’s awfully brilliant 👍🏻🎁 I’d come back to this every Christmas!
Once you get past the bad concept, it’s actually really good. That orchestration slaps and they play it beautifully.
Who's here in 2024
How I wish I could use both thumbs up and thumbs down!
From left to right: Artur Ruciński, Vesselina Kasarova, Dmitry Korchak and Natalia Ushakova
Thank you!!
«I’m an educated classical singer, that means I can also sing pop music»
This is just fantastic. So much utter destruction.
Each soloist is equally comfortable in Classical, Broadway, Jazz, and Popular genres…
🗣🎶Maaaaaybeeeee neeeeeext yyYEEEEEEAAAAAAAAARRRR!!!!!!🎶
Literally he is the tenoriest tenor.
I LOVE The ratio of likes to dislikes. This is astounding and continues to be so :)
Yeh, Im guessing most people wish they could have pushed both buttons 🤣
Too bad we cannot know now
OKAY, I've just disrupted the status quo and I put forward my disklike. They do have great voices, but in poor taste for this pop xmas song!
I think I can see them laughing during it. It can't be entirely serious.
They’re sightreading and high fiveing themselves for their amazing English pronunciation.
It's the perfect balance of impressive and funny😂👌🏻
Yes! Great voices, but not the correct genre/style for them... They kinda ruin the song for me.
Let's be real, the only reason this is sillier than opera is that we understand the lyrics.
Opera is when a man gets stabbed and instead of bleeding, he sings
The best part are the trumpets at 1:01
I’ve learned to love this!
Never been an Opera fan but this is absolutely banging. George would be loving it 🤟
You're still not an opera fan - this ain't opera.
Some people dream of things that never were, and ask why not. Others see things as they are, and ask why.
- not Robert Kennedy
LOL. FTW!
Everyone has the measure of this farcical arrangement (which will have done the careers of the four singers absolutely no harm whatever - hats off to them !!).
This is brilliant. Was on Radio 1 in the UK..
The visual aid to a thousand 40-something high-school music teachers' presentations on 'classical music can be cool'.
Oh heck no, leave us out of this, we want no part of it
I thought it gave off music teachers taking a high school student's dumb idea way too serious vibes. But that might be more accurate
I didn’t know Avril Lavigne could sing opera.
Mezzo soloist: Sharon Osbourne. Soprano soloist: Melania Trump.
Soprano is Kristen Johnston
It’s Fergie.
Nah. The Mezzo is Blanche Devereaux.
Masterpiece.
proof of the adage that just because you can doesn't mean you should - hysterical - can't tell if the soloists understand the self-parody of their form
No one has mentioned the way the baritone looks at the mezzo when singing “someone special”.
Blanche Devereaux is a lot of guys’ “someone special.” 😂
why are you people saying this is embarrassing. this is CAMP. you just don’t get it.
People are wrong when they say "opera is not what it used to be". It is exactly what it used to be; that is what is wrong with it.
I hate this so much that it actually comes full circle and is just fun enjoyment for me to watch 😂
I hope that’s not too harsh; I respect the musicianship and dedication of all involved, I just think it is stylistically an abysmal choice, but hey! That makes it terribly funny and quite entertaining nonetheless!
This is GREAT!! Do they also do their version of "Folsom Prison Blues"?? :)
Are they trolling us ?! I just can’t quite tell ...😬😂
Of course they are. It is heartwarming when people don't take themselves and their profession too seriously.
Well at least the singers seem to be enjoying themselves…
An awsome forbidden lovechild!
This would make a wonderful Proms Encore!
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
LOL!
in hell
The secondhand embarrassment is real 🤣🤣
Why does the Mezzo look like she’s about to blow a gasket? 💀
Its like watching Fascinating Aida ...and I'm waiting for the sweary bits....
Not sure if they realise how camp this is. Reminds me of the French and Saunders sketch.
We think the same.
@@Seizesix that is exactly what I was thinking also!
"i wanna tell em."
😮 NOW IT FEELS LIKE CHRISTMAS 😂
amazing
Best version
Once bitten, and twice shy
A skipping Jesus, but you still catch his eye
This must be a parody of opera singers trying to sing popular music ...😂
Sweet jesus
I just punched my screen...why would they do this..there should be a law against this, this should be illegal,.
The arrangement is actually so impressive. The execution from the unprepared solists is just really bad 🤣
I wager they've rehearsed it with the orchestra two times tops.
This is so funny !
I am🩱👸🏼out-acting every drag queen in the world without a lyric in sight!!
🤣🤣🤣
Haha- awesome! Thanks!
Can we say "clash of cultures"?
So bad that it's good!
George Michael a brilliant star on the sky, RiP
Keep expecting Vic and Bob to walk on.
Grauenvoll!!!
Shouldn't the soloists be off book by now?
Hmmm...I don't know what to say!
wow great
Is this... A joke?
This is what it sounds like to germans and russians when English people sing opera 😂
It's really not though. Opera singers have to take language diction (i.e. pronunciation) classes at music school, like not just Italian but specifically Italian diction. And German. And French. Because that's what most classical music is written in. European opera singers also learn those same languages, and not English.
this is just weird. A seriously non-classical song from classical voices, it is just plain out of sorts with itself.
That would be fine if they could just pronounce half the words.
Hmm the melody and arrangement were correct, and the words too. What went wrong
OMG what is this 😯 sounds like Disney Channels Bootcamp 😂
This is laugh out loud. In literally every way. They sound like chickens gobbling & garbling. They look like they are twitching and contorting as well.
BRAVI TUTTI! To hell with these judgmental unhappy bitter commenters. The world needs more of this happiness.
🤢
Rigoletto Qtet meets George Michael. 😬😬😬
OMG...
Du bist musik!
Pop music ... you are being trolled ....
WTF IS THIS???? 🤢🤢🤢🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️. Simply PAINFUL 😣
Now do the Slade song.
Beyond absurd! Comical!
Second hand embarrassment so badly 😩
Does anyone know the mezzo’s name? 🧐
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Who won the actual f@$k thought the world needs this?
No, no, no, please don't ever do anything like this again. The ONLY good thing about it is that they haven't desecrated a jazz standard...............
Dear Gods! 🤣🤣🤣
What is it?
It's so bad that it becomes funny!
