I REALLY like her voice and her playing the hurdy gurdy. It really gives her music a unique sound. I love it! I LOVE HER SINGING LAST RIDE OF THE DAY! Her voice is phenomenal singing that one. Too bad it wasn't the whole song! Thanks for sharing these two songs.
I'd love to see her as a guest musician with Nightwish to perfome Last Ride... I'm sure she would have a great time with Troy too, exploring various musical instruments together.
Hey Bob. I have to agree with you, the problem with this live performance , is that we weren't in that crowd. 😁 Looked like a great time. Thanks for sharing the Nightwish cover, hadn't seen that, very cool. A Hurdy Gurdy and what might be a bowed dulcimer. Would be cool if she even got a chance to play with Nightwish, her and Troy together would be awesome. Floor does sing that song , but it was Anette era, from the Imaginaerum album. Tribal is the only song from that Human:II:Nature album, that you have on the wall, that you have reacted to. As far as the Hurdy Gurdy, the only song I can think of , that you'll see it, is the cover of Manowar's "Warriors of the World" United by Feuerschwanz (feat Thomas Winkler, Soltatio Mortis and Melissa Bonny).
I love this as well. Great voice and the music style is awesome. Patty does a brilliant rendition of LRotD! I would bet patty is a fan of Nightwish? Good one my man! Kind of like an accordian with a crank instead of a bellows.
I was blown away when I first heard her version of LRotD. So incredibly good and unique...plus she put her heart and soul into it. C'mon Nightwish, make a collab happen!
If you like those ancient instruments, you should also try the German folk group Faun. Federkleid and Galdra are good songs to start with. And their collab with Eluveitie in Gwydion is a great surprise.
I agree with your take on Last Ride of the Day and it is one of my favorites from her. She took a good Nightwish song and made it her own unique version. I also think it is one of her best vocal performances.
Thanks for your reaction. Recent information: Published yesterday, February 14, by Napalm Records, Patty featured on a video from the Scottish metalband Alestorm: Voyage of the Dead Marauder - ua-cam.com/video/LT7HqIP55tI/v-deo.html . She will be part of their UK-tour as well. 🙂
Imagine my reaction at the premiere of "Last ride of the day" as I did not know, how short her "half-cover" (my word for this) would be and this song is one of my favorite Nightwish-songs... :D But she is working on a new album currently and I'm not the only one who hopes for a fullversion of this song on it. Last point, about the hurdy-gurdy. I am a huge fan of Patty but she is not the only one making great music with that wonderful instrument. Maybe you will like the orchestral version of the song "Challenge" from Cellar Darling, a folk-metal band from Switzerland. It's made in a "layered" style, so nearly all of the instrumental sound is from Anna Murphys hurdy-gurdy. And it's nearly the only video in this style besides Pattys (who else?) videos "Horizon turns red", "The longing" and "Game of thrones". So check it out, if you want to hear a wonderful hurdy-gurdy-song from a different but also fantastic lady: ua-cam.com/video/U8Fnp-ZqNjo/v-deo.html
There is one other band that immediately comes to mind when I think of the hurdy gurdy : Eluveitie (a Swiss folk metal band) One of their heavier songs "Rebirth" pushes the aggressive end of the gurdy up to the forefront.. They also feature another great voice, but being metal the vocal can get a bit harsh (fair warning ;) ) btw, I'm a former trad-irish guitar/strings player (DADGAD tunings, pounding out syncopated bouzouki rhythms behind Bothy Band covers, etc) so I've been around hurdy gurdy for a few decades. As a former engineer, I've always waned to design and build one, but the wood working skills exceed my simple lutherie, and my metalcasting chops are not up to the scale of the gurdy's crank system. If you want another Patty Gurdy song to try, maybe look at her collab with Scardust : "Concrete Cages".
I can't even imagine the work that goes into building one of those. I'll tell you though, if I did, it would be that exact green that she has. LOVE that color.
Patty is often mistaken for an Irish woman. She doesn't have such a unique voice. There will be more singers who have a similar voice. Fabienne Erni from Eluveitie/Illumishade would have been the first to come to mind. As a teenager, Nightwish was one of her favorite bands. In Germany the band made it to mainstream radio with Nemo and was therefore widely known for a while and still has a large fan base today. Patty can explain to you how the Hurdy Gurdy works: How EXACTLY does the hurdy gurdy work? The sound is not entirely original. Depending on the song, she distorts it with her pedalboard: INSANE metal solos on a FOLK instrument 🤘🏻🎸 Nerdy Pedalboard Tour She is currently on tour as a guest musician with Alestorm. This song was released at the same time as your video: ALESTORM ft. PATTY GURDY - Voyage Of The Dead Marauder (Official Video) | Napalm Records In the past I knew the hurdy-gurdy primarily as an accompanying instrument. It's rarely as prominent as Patty's. But there is: LYRRE - Valley of Tears (OFFICIAL MUSIC VIDEO)
Patty is Amazing - I have been following her for years.. GREAT Stuff.
How cool!! I’ve never heard music from a hurdy gurdy. Patty has incredible energy as well! Love her voice. Thanks for sharing this artist with us. 😁
The red hair doesn't hurt. She is talented and lovely. Thumbs up for the hurdy gurdy.
I'd love to see her as a guest musician with Nightwish to perfome Last Ride...

"Last Ride of the Day" was during the Annette days of Nightwish, the Imaginaerum album/movie.

Now her joining in on that song would be amazing! You never know. I'm sure they've seen this and HAVE to be wondering......
Fun fact: Patty is not only speaking German, she is German! Her real name is Patricia Büchler ( born 1997)❤
I love this as well. Great voice and the music style is awesome. Patty does a brilliant rendition of LRotD! I would bet patty is a fan of Nightwish? Good one my man! Kind of like an accordian with a crank instead of a bellows.

@@ModernLifeForThe70sMind That would be beautiful. I bet Tuomas and Troy would love it as well. They are both into those old style instruments.

I think Blackmore's Night (former Deep Purple Ritchie Blackmore and wife) have used a hurdy gurdy
Really, never heard it. Now I'm gonna have to search. HA
