That's Why Elevator Doors Have a Tiny Hole
Вставка
- Опубліковано 4 сер 2024
- Today, there are more than 1 million elevators just in the US, carrying people higher and lower every day. All these elevators travel about 1 and 1/2 billion miles per year and move around 18 billion passengers. You might think that you know everything about this vertical kind of transport. But, let's say, have you ever wondered why elevator doors have small holes in them?
Imagine getting stuck in an elevator at the most inappropriate moment of your life. An elevator arrives at your floor, but the doors wouldn't open. Something must have gone wrong with the equipment, or there has been a power failure. In this case, getting out won't be an easy feat! That's why all you can do is to wait for an elevator mechanic. Finally, they turn up, but what next?

That keyhole is for a drop key in the US. Triangle keys are mostly used in Europe or other countries and elevator rescues are normally for firefighters.
Yep. Always read this comment if you dont want to listen to someone speak for 8 minutes to answer a simple question.
These are the videos when your read the title and you know you've just got to find out.😂
Yes
for real tho!🤣
🤣🤣🤣🤣
That's an art
Mmhhm
This is a great post and I has learned a lot today. Thank you !!
Great information as Always. 💯
BRIGHT SIDE:“have u ever gotten stuck in an elevator or anywhere else?”
Me:“yessss!!! Everyday, in ur comments section, it is also like an elevator going down and up, but I get stuck when I’m reading a nice comment, which I think is kinda different bcz in an elevator u don’t get stuck for something nice” 😜😜😜
Ur channel is amazing I love it always informative
The Short Answer: It is a keyhole for a drop key to open the elevator doors manually
Yeah. I only clicked this because I wanted to so how cringe the comments are.
Love ur vids
Very informative video. 🤟😊👍💯.
Thanks for that Info!
Nice video m8 ✌️
Nice to know in case I get stuck in an elevator! Thanks, Bright Side!
Random fact:
There is actually a difference between coffins and caskets - coffins are typically tapered and six-sided, while caskets are rectangular.
When your afraid of elevators so this helps u 😂
I ❤️ elevators
yoooo I am afraid of elevators
*When your scared of elevators and escalators:*
Yeah i afraid of elevator in real life-
@@ihavenoideawhatimdoing4 why be scared of escalator they are moving stairs and if they break u just walk up them like normal stairs
When I get a chance and when and if school goes back in person, I should try the VIP elevator thing. LOL!
Informative
Cool
You are actually the 1st comment which is even cooler!
Cool vid
I’m sorry, but 2:58 is wrong! An elevator will never plummeted down. It’s just not possible. First of all, let’s say if your riding a roped elevator, just one of the ropes are enough to make the lector function. The rest are there for safety just in case one snaps. Let’s say, they all snap, then in all elevator machine rooms, there is something called a governor. If the elevator’s speed is abnormal, the governor will immediately stop the elevator. Therefor, this is not possible (Elevator falling) Also, the special Elevator key is called a Drop Key!
This is very true. 👍
This amazing
Video is SO EPIC
This is one of his best vids
Me: Hey look bright side made a video
BrightSide: of course I did
Me: Why are you so smart! How do you come up with these things?
BrightSide: Well, you see I was born with 7 brains
Me: Oh, that makes sense
During lockdown we are not able to use the elevator even once🤣😂
Thank for today 🙏
Has anyone ever thought what it bright side is wrong?!
Thanks for the info, I don't understand how you know all these things! I have learned many things thanks to BRIGHT SIDE!
i ♥ your vids
Wow amazing about the elevator underground in the mine.
The title peaked my interest 👀

Not all elevators have the hole on every elevator door on every floor. The hole may be located on the bottom floor elevator door. Not all elevators have panels on the top that can be removed.
@@elevator_satellite You got me. I agree. The building I work in has that set up. It's an elevator original to the building that was built in the 1960's.
Elevators in the United States are the safest as long as proper maintenance and inspections are done as the manufacture suggest. Always use a elevator for what it’s for, follow the proper capacity , do not tamper with anything that’s in the elevator, unless you are a license vertical express technician, use it as you would any mechanical equipment, it is not a playground to just let your children play in.
Flat earthers: TRIGGERED
Wait one question what will happen if there’s no hole in the elevator???
It has already saved my life.
Ok
The key hole is not always to save stuck people the engeniers use the cartop to mantain the lift.
The most irritating thing about bright side is that they give mixed information. I noticed it again in this video. In this video you said to lay face down, in an other video you said to lay face up placing something soft under your head and protecting your face with your hands (if I remember correctly).
How many videos can one channel upload in a day?
Lol, I got many landing door lift keys and I am not an official engineer lol but I do have alot of knowledge and experience on lifts and their workings.
The koln cathedral is very tall and is all manual and takes 45 min to an hour to walk up. The notre dame cathedral also all manual. They are taller than 5-7 floors
325 million rides a day but there are 7 billion people on the planet and he said the average person makes 4 trips?? Bruh

I’m claustrophobic so I avoid elevators at all costs and haven’t been in one since 2019
I am claustrophobic too and I try to avoid elevators myself and I will only go in one if I have to or I will use the stairs or escalators
I did not know that!
Ive actually already knew about this feature before I saw this video
I never ride an elavator because I live in a small town.
What small town
As a swedish elevator engineer i can confirm this. And it’s called a triangle key
Yay finally I know how to save my life in elavater
I already knew this. But, some of the other stuff was interesting.
I get so much knowledge from bright side Thanks to bright side for giving us knowledge
I survived an elevator freefall accident...starting from 18th floor.
From18th to 9th it was very turbulent. Elevator moving from side to side violently...Brakes were engaged (i think)
Stopped on 9th floor for several minutes then plunged.
Visual picture of me in Bar Method class, "flex your knees" so
I flexed my knees.
when elevator stopped hard my knees buckled and i was in a squat position.
I sustained a brain injury even though my head never hit floor or wall.
In my opinion, lying down will cause a more severe brain injury...closed head injury Vs. open head 🤷♀️
Love it
I’ve been stuck in the elevator lots of time
So, are all elevators equipped with the same key? Or is each one special and ONLY fit one??? I assume the same for fireman's accsess?
And what use do i have with a elevator key hole on the outside of the elevator if i am locked inside.
Well... I din’t even finish your other vid yet!
Got stuck once. It was my bachelor part night. Was stuck with my best man for almost 2hrs. Fortunately we had a fifth of Wild Turkey. Unfortunately by the time we got out, we could hardly walk
That small hole in the elevator door is called a drop hole and they open the doors in an emergency with a drop key
Cool 😎
The key that goes in the hole is know as a drop key or a lunar key. Building superintendents are not allowed to have them as they have no idea how to safely use them.
As for the lunar key being used rarely, an elevator mechanic uses them multiple times a day.
Holding a button and the close door button doesn’t do anything.
You cannot open the doors from the inside because there is a restrictor rod that prevents the doors from opening more than a few inches
How unlucky! Scary 13 🔥😳
How many videos do you post today I’ve seen at least five today April 30, 2020.
the background music tho!!! ):
Wow cool
Why i love bright side, cause the sound of the man who's speaking, i love it
At my university I use the lift 4-6 times per day sometimes 8 LOL
The "car preference trick using the floors and close buttons only work on Schindler, ThyssenKrupp, and KONE
Schindler
Not all places have them, such as California
Simple answer.
Air
No need to watch a 10 minute video explaining why you need air
Uh no. It's for the key. There is plenty of air in the shaft and there is ventilation so YOU ARE WRONG
I always wondered what it does...
It’s called a lunar key and there are safety’s that won’t let the car plummet down the hoist way
How to not get stuck in an elevator: DON’T RIDE OTIS ELEVATORS!!!
@Daredo wrong.
@Daredo I'm talking about American Gen2's
Schindler get stuck to
Elevators now go sideways; check out ThyssenKrupp sideways elevators and tell me what you think
my grandma my sister and i got stuck in the elevator
in between floors but that time workers were also inside the elevator when that happened
they did something for a while then the elevator started moving again
i dont think they're workers they might be elevator services
There should be a button that allows you to open the door only when it’s stopped, oh wait.. there is
You should’ve included this fact:
Elevators always chime once to let passengers know they’re going up and twice when they’re going down
Not always.
Yes I know when I was stuck in my school that came in handy
"The number 13 is unlucky."
Me: NUMBER IS NUMBER.

Don't lie down! Stand with your feet together, knees slightly bent, and gently lean forward. Same principle as the survival protocol for falling from heights
Learned so much about elevators. Love it.
My apartment is 23 years old and the elevator is too and still it only has got stuck 20 times
I rarely ride a elevator edit: I rode the elevator 2 times in my life
tiny hole in the elevator door so you can send smoke signals
How to open the "glass-doored " elevator....? Cuz they don't have holes
I have been in a elevator that was stuck. It was halfy on 3th floor and half on 2nd floor.
I have never used an elevator or even seen it
Watching from uganda
Yes
Wowwh its awesome fact
In quarantine this is the perfect vid to watch
I didn't even knew they had a hole...
3:48 min I learned that I can screenshot an elevator 🤣😛
I’ve only been in a elevator 2Times and those two times I’ve been stuck in the elevator
Most of my friends have these keys. They ride on top of lifts.
