That keyhole is for a drop key in the US. Triangle keys are mostly used in Europe or other countries and elevator rescues are normally for firefighters.
Sometimes the drop key is a metal rod about a foot long that is inserted in the outside hall door and pushed to disengage that door's locking mechanism.
I’m sorry, but 2:58 is wrong! An elevator will never plummeted down. It’s just not possible. First of all, let’s say if your riding a roped elevator, just one of the ropes are enough to make the lector function. The rest are there for safety just in case one snaps. Let’s say, they all snap, then in all elevator machine rooms, there is something called a governor. If the elevator’s speed is abnormal, the governor will immediately stop the elevator. Therefor, this is not possible (Elevator falling) Also, the special Elevator key is called a Drop Key!

Not all elevators have the hole on every elevator door on every floor. The hole may be located on the bottom floor elevator door. Not all elevators have panels on the top that can be removed.
@@elevator_satellite You got me. I agree. The building I work in has that set up. It's an elevator original to the building that was built in the 1960's.

Elevators in the United States are the safest as long as proper maintenance and inspections are done as the manufacture suggest. Always use a elevator for what it’s for, follow the proper capacity , do not tamper with anything that’s in the elevator, unless you are a license vertical express technician, use it as you would any mechanical equipment, it is not a playground to just let your children play in.

The key that goes in the hole is know as a drop key or a lunar key. Building superintendents are not allowed to have them as they have no idea how to safely use them. As for the lunar key being used rarely, an elevator mechanic uses them multiple times a day. Holding a button and the close door button doesn’t do anything. You cannot open the doors from the inside because there is a restrictor rod that prevents the doors from opening more than a few inches
Don't lie down! Stand with your feet together, knees slightly bent, and gently lean forward. Same principle as the survival protocol for falling from heights
Lol, I got many landing door lift keys and I am not an official engineer lol but I do have alot of knowledge and experience on lifts and their workings.
Got stuck once. It was my bachelor part night. Was stuck with my best man for almost 2hrs. Fortunately we had a fifth of Wild Turkey. Unfortunately by the time we got out, we could hardly walk
I survived an elevator freefall accident...starting from 18th floor. From18th to 9th it was very turbulent. I sustained a brain injury even though my head never hit floor or wall. In my opinion, lying down will cause a more severe brain injury...closed head injury Vs. open head 🤷♀️
The most irritating thing about bright side is that they give mixed information. I noticed it again in this video. In this video you said to lay face down, in an other video you said to lay face up placing something soft under your head and protecting your face with your hands (if I remember correctly).

Yep. Always read this comment if you dont want to listen to someone speak for 8 minutes to answer a simple question.

Great information as Always. 💯
The Short Answer: It is a keyhole for a drop key to open the elevator doors manually
Yeah. I only clicked this because I wanted to so how cringe the comments are.

Nice video m8 ✌️
Informative
The key hole is not always to save stuck people the engeniers use the cartop to mantain the lift.
You should’ve included this fact:
Elevators always chime once to let passengers know they’re going up and twice when they’re going down
Not always.
Nice to know in case I get stuck in an elevator! Thanks, Bright Side!
Elevators now go sideways; check out ThyssenKrupp sideways elevators and tell me what you think
It has already saved my life.
Ok
As a swedish elevator engineer i can confirm this. And it’s called a triangle key

I learned to create fantastic riddles in my channel .Thank you
Simple answer.
Air
No need to watch a 10 minute video explaining why you need air
Uh no. It's for the key. There is plenty of air in the shaft and there is ventilation so YOU ARE WRONG

That small hole in the elevator door is called a drop hole and they open the doors in an emergency with a drop key
"The number 13 is unlucky."

Not all places have them, such as California

The reason why elevators have holes is to open the door with the key
