Sometimes it's better to just start cutting wood even if there is no exact plan in mind. Sometimes I have to cut the pieces first and then figure out exactly what to do with them :)

I've watched a few videos on both resin art and fractal burning and really like both. I've definitely considered doing both but really don't know if I'll ever get around to it. I know the resins can get kind of expensive and I'm working on a really limited budget. The fractal burning looks like fun and if I can ever get my hands on a set up I think I'll give it a try.

Yea, editing is a lot of work and I only used about 10% of all the video I shot for this project. Sometimes it can be difficult to figure out what parts of the videos to use and what parts not to use.
She doesn't have pockets or a wallet or a bank account so she doesn't accept cash or credit. I think the best way to pay her is to thank her which I try to remember to do as I'm working with her creations :)
Amazing woodwork. Could you turn down the volume on your video or better yet, try other type of music? The way it goes loud and quiet while you’re quiet so I have to turn the volume up and down was a chore just to appreciate your work
Great video but missed a lot of instructions while you were doing your piece of art. It is absolutely beautiful but I wish we could all be able to be as creative as you are. Instructions instead of the beautiful music would be most helpful.
Hi Scott. Love this video. I have a log just as big, and I want to make something with it. But everywhere I look it says that I have do disinfect the wood by cooking it. That cannot be done with a log this size. What do you du with yours? And do you have any tips for me? 🙏🏻
I think the goal of cooking the wood would probably be to kill any termites or insects that might be in it. I never cook the wood before using it but on a lot of projects I use termite killer (didn't use it on this project though). The brand I like is Bayer BioAdvanced carpenter ant and termite killer. I get it at Lowes. When I use it, I usually cut the pieces for my project first - once they're cut I lay the pieces out on a table and brush on two or three coats and let it soak in and dry overnight (or longer if needed) before moving forward with the project. I cut the pieces first so I don't waste the termite killer on parts of the wood that I'm not going to use. My main tip would probably be to make sure that whatever you use to kill termites and insects is safe for interior use if it's going inside. You don't want to make a piece of art (or anything else) and treat it with something that's for outdoors only - those types of products can sometimes have fumes and not be good to have inside.

I use Zar because it comes in an oil-based flat finish - some of the other brands don't. There's lots of good brands out there but besides Zar I like Minwax and Varathane.
I really like it. Its definitely not as fast as a gas powered chainsaw but the big advantage for me is that I don't have to pull start it every time I turn it on. When I'm working on a project throughout the day I might turn it on and turn it off dozens of times depending on the project. That would be a lot of pull starts. Plus its lightweight and easy to manage.

Would driftwood cracks easily? As it has submerged in water for a long time, it has a very high moisture content I suppose.
If you build those empty spots up with resin and made it flush on top that would make an awesome table

I'm not sure what clamp you're referring to. I made L brackets out of 1/4" plywood to secure the driftwood together in the corners.

I used the same wood as I used for the backer boards on the driftwood - 5mm thick plywood cut into L shapes.

It's 5mm thick plywood from Lowes. It's called RevolutionPly. It's slightly thinner than 1/4" plywood.
