    Some people see junk and firewood but you see the beauty in weathered wood and I like your vision. I have a stack of ancient worm eaten oak rescued from the restoration of my old house just waiting for inspiration, so thanks for your vision and talent Scott.

      Yes, sometimes the most weathered, worm eaten wood is the most inspiring :)

    You know that saying, “If you want something done right, you got to do it yourself”? That doesn’t apply here, the creator did it right. My satisfaction levels are through the roof. Thank you sir for making this video, and also excellent choice of music for the background.

    You are Gifted, no I'm not gone yet, you are super cool, a bit weird, in a cool way, you see the beauty in what nature, ocean tides and storms create from that branch that fell and was tumbled and tossed, and then arrived from a storm or high tide on your beach,
    and then you honour that beauty .
    Your nuts man, in the most beautiful way.
    You rock.Crazy beautiful heart.I love your brain, heart and artistry.✨

    Driftwood is the perfect media for art. The natural curves and 'imperfections' can lead to countless conversations about the beauty of nature and how the earth continues to provide beauty, even in death. Thanks for the video.

      @scottoconnor  6 років тому +2

      I've watched a few videos on both resin art and fractal burning and really like both. I've definitely considered doing both but really don't know if I'll ever get around to it. I know the resins can get kind of expensive and I'm working on a really limited budget. The fractal burning looks like fun and if I can ever get my hands on a set up I think I'll give it a try.

      Yes, I thought about that too. Sometimes it can be hard to decide whether to hang a piece horizontally or vertically. I had one project that I did where I put hangers on all 4 sides because I couldn't decide which side I wanted as the top.

  • @masja1790
    @masja1790 4 роки тому

    Hi Scott. Love this video. I have a log just as big, and I want to make something with it. But everywhere I look it says that I have do disinfect the wood by cooking it. That cannot be done with a log this size. What do you du with yours? And do you have any tips for me? 🙏🏻

    • @scottoconnor
      @scottoconnor  4 роки тому

      I think the goal of cooking the wood would probably be to kill any termites or insects that might be in it. I never cook the wood before using it but on a lot of projects I use termite killer (didn't use it on this project though). The brand I like is Bayer BioAdvanced carpenter ant and termite killer. I get it at Lowes. When I use it, I usually cut the pieces for my project first - once they're cut I lay the pieces out on a table and brush on two or three coats and let it soak in and dry overnight (or longer if needed) before moving forward with the project. I cut the pieces first so I don't waste the termite killer on parts of the wood that I'm not going to use. My main tip would probably be to make sure that whatever you use to kill termites and insects is safe for interior use if it's going inside. You don't want to make a piece of art (or anything else) and treat it with something that's for outdoors only - those types of products can sometimes have fumes and not be good to have inside.

When I'm working on a project throughout the day I might turn it on and turn it off dozens of times depending on the project. That would be a lot of pull starts.
