when he sent it to Devo, they loved it, and one of the members of Devo hates the fact Dare to Be Stupid sounds better then most devo sounds.
Mark Mothersbaurgh, main composer of DEVO was the one who hated how good it sounded.
Mark Mothersbaugh has since clarified that comment. He was being a bit sarcastic and snarky. (He's known for that.) Mark and Jerry in DEV-O and Al are actually good friends who have collaborated a few times.
@@BadBoyBobby85 The man responsible for near-every (if not every) Klasky-Csupo production's signature sound? The very same.
Yes, Weird Al SHOULD be the halftime act at this year's Super Bowl...and THIS needs to be the opening song!
If he did the halftime act, that would probably be the only time I ever watch the halftime show, or the superbowl in general XD
You deserve a nobel prize!!! That would awesome! Shit have him perform at the world cup! Haha he could perform his sports song at the superbowl. That would just make my year!!!
I love how the difference between DEVO and a DEVO parody is practically none.
The biggest difference is mostly the message. Devo is about "choose your mutations carefully" and "toil is stupid", while Al is like, "embrace your inner stupid."
I can almost see Wreck-Gar and Wheelie dancing beside him.
And all the other Junkions lol: Arclight, Ashtray, Axer, Detritus, Greasestain, HAZMAT, the "Hood Transformer"(Possibly), the "MTMTE Junkion", Nancy, Pinion, the "Pole vault Transformer"(Possibly), Re-Cycle, Rubbish, Rum-Maj, Scrap Iron, Scrapheap, the "Second-in command Junkion", Shearbolt, the "Short Junkion", Trashbin and Wassteoid Gamma
@@Jetfire-kk1ti I can talk some TV. And now the news, don't touch that dial!
This is Weird Al's greatest style parody imho. It's brilliant how he makes Devo's basic concept of devolution -- which presupposes a reduced intellect as one of the principal effects -- and turns it into an anthem calling on his listeners to be brave enough to embrace stupidity as a life goal! Now that's pure comedic genius. Thank you, Al!
It’s insane how well he recreated the songwriting and production style of the entire “Oh No” album in one song. As well as the video, with visual references to every music video they ever made. Al is a genius. His parody of They Might Be Giants is the same way.
@@sub-jec-tiv Right. I don't think I've seen the They Might Be Giants parody. It's amazing how his lyrics on straight parodies are invariably as witty as or even wittier than those in the original song
@@Galantski I'd been listening to the TMBG parody for years without realizing it. It's "Everything You Know Is Wrong".
Also worth noting is the Talking Heads style parody, "Dog Eat Dog".
id pay for devo to cover this at some point
Mark Mothersbaugh said he liked the song but I think Jerry Casale is indifferent to it.
The big issue of course is that Devo concerts are so scarce now (mostlly due to Mark).
@@stapler942 mark said he hated it because it was the perfect devo song that devo didn't write.
i cant believe he sounds this close to the cd while playing live. i wish every artist sounded this good while playing live. almost nobody does. they all play the songs different or add something
+southweststrangla420 That is because unlike so many pop stars he can actually sing...
He is talking retirement. If you get a chance to see him live, do it.
Yep, he's amazing!
Oh, and Zippy, the retirement thing is not true whatsoever. He's just probably not going to make conventional albums anymore and release songs whenever he gets done with them.
+KentuckyWallChicken Thank heavens the retirement thing isn't true. I'm saving up for the off-chance that Weird Al will do a night in Manchester UK... or anywhere in the surrounding area in the North West of England.
SuperGingernutz I think he was questioning his relevance but the success of his tour and latest album seems to have changed his mind.
He is still the best at what he does.
He sounds almost exactly as he did in the actual song!
+DJ MckEric Official Except he ad-libbed a few more parts saying "I still can't hear you" and "I can't seem to hear you," and "What did you say?" and "One more time!"
That's because he took singing lessons before recording off the deep end, so most songs released before that point will sound different. This is an exception because he's intentionally singing in a different voice.
This is one of the main reasons Weird Al is my favorite singer: he actually performs live. Take notes other singers!!!
He also writes his own songs (except for parodies) and only uses auto tune to parody people who use it normally
Weird Al and his band go so hard. This is easily one of the best live rock bands in rock and roll history, capable of playing absolutely any style perfectly.
@@Dinckelburg LMAO I literally was at a Ween show when you posted this comment 🤎🤎🤎
Let's give an extra shoutout for the band and Al even getting down the stage mannerisms of the Devo guys, complete with bird-like head movements.
I can't hear you. I still can't hear you. I can't seem to hear you. What did you say? One more time. Okay, I can hear you now.
This sounds great live! A perfect homage to Devo, Al and them both have taught us that life is too short to take yourself serious.
the fact he sounds just like he did in his music videos when he sings shows this man can sing with out the need to have his songs modified his voice
I find it hilarious everyone is sitting.
Walker Weinstein I find it horrifying. How do you not dance to dare to be stupid?
Everyone is sitting down. If I had been there I would have been dancing around daring to be stupid.
Weird Al was one of the heaviest concerts i've experienced. Not a joke.
What I find amazing is that for about 30 years now, Al has kept the same band intact.
Right, where other "bands"hav these revolving doors for old and new members to go through...there not just a band..theyre family to stay so long together
Ok Weird Al, you're just OP now. How is it you can sound like 10k front men, and your band mimic 200k different styles, and sound fantasic live. That's ridiculously talented!
How do you get to Carnegie Hall?
_Practice, practice, practice!_
How is it you can sound like 10k front men, and your band mimic 200k different styles, and sound fantastic live.
_Dare to be stupid!_
@@globalheartwarming the man is so talented he almost stuck his head in the microwave to get himself a tan.
It’s ridiculous how good Weird Al is live.
This is an extremely rare event, where the live version is more amazing than the usual song. This is a gem among all the songs.
Al is the hardest working genius in entertainment. His attention to detail is impeccable. His dedication to live performance can’t be matched. And the swim goggles were a nice touch.
My favorite song, combines two of my favorite artists, Weird Al and Devo!
this man is a genius, truly epic version
The Transformers Junkions intro. Love Weird Al
When I saw him play this live it started with a clip of transformers animated Wreck-Garr saying “I am Wreck-Garr, I DARE to be stupid!”
Regardless of if like parody’s or not.....Weird Al is a musical genius and more talented that most artist today
I have a theory on Al's back-up band who were all wearing sunglasses, I assume that's what they originally wore in the music video, and I assume Steve Jay the bass guitar player who wore sunglasses for the majority of the video was still wearing his sunglasses, but he added extra glasses to make him look like he was in the Music Video. It was crazy, but it was just a guess.
When he said talk with your mouth full my face was stuffed full of cereal and I was singing this song
Weird al yankovic is awesome and a genius
“You check in but, you don’t check out.” *wink*
"its not hard to knock em down, its getting them to stay down that's the trick"
This is a class act that Mark Mothersbaugh himself would approve of.
Damn right, read somewhere (and can´t find it back) that Mothersbaugh said something like "I wish Devo had composed this"...great pastiche.
ahhh the fond memories...TRANSFORMERS THE ANIMATED MOVIE !! Dare to be stupid fight scene with the Junkions, STILL SO AWSOME !
Probably the best parody that could get passed off as a song by the original artist.
Long live Wierd Al!!!!!!!😁😀😆
dude that rocked! sounded just like the cd. Love ya Weird Al

He Sounds Great Live.
WEIRD AL RULES!!!
sounds the same in the g1 transformers movie
I have this theory that weird Al is immortal I swear the man hasn't aged since the nineties
I am Optimus Prime and this message is to my creators leave planet Earth alone because I'm coming for you I'm the leader of the Autobots
Such a perfect Devo homage.
I was really impressed with this song. I'm a big Devo fan and he was right on target with their style. Awesome song.
My dad and his friend took me and my friend to see him on his farewell tour, it was one of the best shows I’ve ever seen. On top of being an excellent musician he’s an amazing showman
the American's guide for surviving the coronavirus outbreak of 2020
Go see Weird Al live. His show is amazing. Costume changes for every song, video packages, and every single song perfectly delivered. The guy is supposedly a perfectionist and it shows when he performs. Very highly recommended!
Weird Al is the most underrated musical talent of all time.
So good. Al is the most underrated pop artist of all time.
I've never fail to laugh when I hear the line: 'It's like spitting on a fish'
The funny thing is that this sounds like it could be a real, and awesome, Devo song. It's more of a tribute than a parody.
One of my favourite songs by AL
I think the audience is nuts!!!! Why aren't they up singing along!!!!!
I agree they're a lame ass audience I know if I was there I would be dancing and singing along. Weird Al's music is just to good not to. They act like they're in a coma.
I think they were singing along, it was filmed professionally so you couldn't hear them singing along. You could hear them screaming "Dare to be Stupid!" When he got to the whole, "I still can't hear you!" Part.
Why can't I like this more than once??
This is the best non-Devo Devo song.
Wowsers!! This is like the closest to the original recording. Kudos!!
Wreck-Gar killing it on stage
One of my happiest moments was finally getting to see this performed live on this tour. Still makes me happy to see it!
Dude, this is Al's BEST live performance he ever did in HISTORY! If this masterpiece wasn't recorded, the world would end!
The most underrated artist of all time! Nothing but love for you Al. One of my true heroes.
For a comedy tune, those synth sounds are haaaard! More Devo than Devo.
Lol his Mark Mothersbaugh impersionation is spot on
This is 1 of the best live recordings I've heard; great job!
this is killer i love this song
This performance just ROCKED!!! WELL DONE Weird-Al!!!
Easily his best song ever, and his best live performance. What a great crowd, huh? DARE TO BE STUPID!!
great vocals!
ライブでこの曲表現するの凄いな!
Devoの世界観とヤンが融合して最高!ヤンのカワイイ方の声も素晴らしい!
One of my favorite songs
“Don't look behind door number 2, Monty! It's time to play "End of the line, my valentine!" Ger-roni-do-ron-ron-roni-mo!!!” - Wreck-Gar - The Transformers: The Movie
One of the tracks that makes me emotional. Not because of some event. But just. How perfect of a DEVO track it is. Not even actually being from DEVO.....
You just showed how outstanding you are. I love it. Hats off to the band also. We Love you in Houston Tx. Waiting on your return.
Great stuff loved it
Saw Al at the Ritz here in NYC during the "Off the Deep End" Tour. He changed costumes 10-12 times during the show and kept us entertained with videos. They're all really musically talented, too -- doing all that stuff live and spot-on. People were moshing every time they played a loud song, and they were all waiting for "Smells like Nirvana"! LOL!!
Bah weep granah weep nini bong!
legit a great song
The theme song for 2020.
Prove me wrong.
Half of the songs from Al's first three albums are time capsule-worthy.
i like how al just has two voices
Al’s best and funniest parody ever!!!!
Not only did Mark Mothersbaugh like the song, he even said that he wished he could have had a hand in its creation.
The end is so hype!!
That crowd looks so excited.
They won't dare to be stupid.
I'm really curious how loud a Weird Al concert tends to be.
Probably my favourite weird al song !!
Al is such a great performer. A legend!
Thiss song is absolutely great.......fun and with a message to everyone that is a little wacked on the head like me....
probably the last concert I saw in 2019 before the pandemic. great show
When things get weird, we got to Al.
I would love to hear Devo do a cover of this!
The one artist that sounds almost completly alike live as on records
And most of the band has noticeably aged, but Al looks almost exactly the same.
I mean also any band that uses synthesizers to modify the main vocals sounds the same live as long as their using the same pitches and tones for the vocal modulation
Man has perfect pitch
Mary J. Blige & R.Kelly?
Thats what makes it such a banger
