Every single person on this earth deserves to be loved, deserves to be respected exactly as they are in this moment, and deserves to live in dignity, and to live in peace. And I am one of them. I have spent so much of the last six years and longer torturing my mind and body out of self-hatred. I've cried for hours, I've wasted away my life on bleak, grey, and grim depression, and stomach gnawing anxiety. I've thought about taking and ending my life so many times, and planned ending my life so many times. I've beaten myself up because I don't have a boyfriend, because I'm too overweight and not thin enough or not toned, because I'm female, because I'm not white, because I haven't got a degree yet, because I'm not hairless enough, because I haven't met my parents' expectations, because society says that because I'm single I must be worthless, unloved, and will die and live in a cold dark way, alone, thousands of times, in my mind, if not hundreds of thousands of times. Today Shasparay's incredibly evocative slam poetry and other great ted talks have helped me decide that I'm going to live. I'm going to give the kind and loving little girl I was a chance to grow up to be a happy and healthy adult and to feel safe. Every child deserves to grow up to be happy. You do, and I do. 💛 Let's do it. Let's live.
