Building Military Roads over Difficult Terrains in World War 2 (HD-1943)

  • A mechanized advance could be stopped dead in tracks by a even a short stretch of boggy swamp. U.S. Army Engineers often came to the rescue in crucial engagements. You'll see techniques for building temporary roads in a wide variety of terrains and climates, including jungles and deserts, using locally available materials and equipment. Like our popular video "Tank Expedients," this is another film in a series used to train troops on how to employ quick & dirty solutions for unexpected problems encountered in the field of battle: aka "Field Expedients."

Thanks ZenosWarbirds for sharing this video with us. My father-in-law served in the CBI Theater with the Combat Engineers. He helped make the Burma Road. As I was watching this video, I could see him and his unit utilizing these methods. I never knew there were so many ways to make do so your objective could be reached.
I thank each and every man and woman that served, did that backbreaking work and, won our Freedom from the Axis powers.

Perhaps your father in law worked for mine; mine was LTC Green under General Pick. He was chief engineer in charge of building the Ledo Road in Burma. I heard a (very) few stories from him and a few more from my uncles.

As a civil engineer (retired), a lot of useful information remains in this film.
