Lol i saw the comment first and assumed it was post coverage commentary not his own live shot. Really funny that he even gave them the heads up. That looked and sounded like it hurt!
I couldn’t tell you where or when exactly, but I remember an iconic one where AB had a monster drive on a long par 4 or 5 golf course hole (maybe that early season in Las Vegas a year or two or three ago) and it hit the camera man standing in the bunker giving him a hazard penalty.
I don’t understand why the spectators are so close. I argued with a guy in the comments about hole 8 at mvp. Yeah it’s electric…. But dude got penalized because some one caught his disc IN BOUNDS. My whole argument being WHY ARE THERE SPECTATORS IN BOUNDS. That’s insane to me. His argument was “well people reach over and catch balls from the stands in baseball” it’s not the same at all. We have holes that spectators are sitting in the middle of centerfield in that analogy. Crazy.
@@playdiscgolf1546 true, but most situations in which a fan gets hit the fan should not be where they are. Not saying they’re breaking rules or guidelines, but the fact it is stupid that they are where they are. And in my point about hole 8 there IS ob but the fans are not behind it. It’s tough, because we as fans want to be able to see the action, but it can be an issue a lot of times.
A lot of times it’s hard to see a disc moving when the narrow flight edge is coming right at you. Most of these are tournament organizers putting spectators in bad positions
Have you ever been hit by a disc in your life? There are so many factors that go into this. Distractions, shadows, or simply watching other players on the course
@yojerry9635 it's called they standing out of bounds don't need to watch 24/7. Disc golfers the only sport that gets upset if it hits someone out of bounds. Don't throw it out of bonds and you don't have to worry
Courses really need to push back spectators. Its honestly unfair that 2 players can throw the exact same throw and depending on what card they're on and if fans and cameras are following them, their shots will be vastly different. Itll never be 100% consistent and fair but mitigate it as much as possible. Throwing OB is expected. Some holes require throwing over OB. It shouldn't cost you 2 strokes because someone is in the way.
@playdiscgolf1546 not the greatest comparison because golf balls also get altered by the fans and they don't have nearly the level of OB rules disc golf has. If OB is the line for spectators then why not have spectators all throughout the island hold 16 at the European Open? Lol. It's absurd. Let's just make a spectator line that is 15-20 feet away from the OB. Yes, less spectators can watch but the tournament isn't for the spectators, it's for the players and the integrity of the game first and foremost.
It’s the event organizers’ fault. They shouldn’t be allowed to stand there. It’s impossible to see a disc flying directly at you, it’s so narrow. It’s a big problem putting spectators in poor places as we’ve seen this year
There is reason why spectators have crowd control lines way off the OB line in European Majors/Elite series. They have no business standing near the line. Cameraman OTOH, thats harder to solve. Though they’re usually on the fairway, focused and only penalty is loss of distance not OB.
It's rarely the spectators fault. The problem is the event organizers allowing people to be on the fairways. One of these times there will be a serious injury.
When the fans are where they are supposed to be it is not their fault for getting hit. The organizers need to keep them out of the way and make sure the players can play safely. If the fans are in a designated area they should not have to move out of the way for a professional tee shot.
Almost all of these are completely avoidable if event organizers knew anything about disc golf. So many times spectator ropes are in awful positions that are just asking for people to get hit/interfere.
To be fair, a disc hitting a crowd will most likely be a hazard for the entire card.. maybe with the exception of someone like Simon L drawing an extra large crowd for a particular hole etc... I've been the numpty on the receiving end of a friends disc... I was outside and past a mando and the disc hit my cart and landed back in a place where he 'could' have taken the throw as if it hadn't missed the mando... At the time we agreed to treat it as just a missed mando.. an I quietly kicked myself on the inside...
@@willemm9356 We just agreed that he missed the mando because I was outside and beyond the tree so just made an otherwise friendly round easy to rule as just a missed mando. The disc bounced off my cart and barely made it back to the side of the tree.. and would have been a lie down throw to get passed it... Sry is you throw it out of bounds and it hits someone your fault. It's like hitting a tree or of bounds. Just because it could have come back in don't mean anything. Don't throw it out of bonds
I love discgolf. But the sport will never become more than it is today unless there's added some proper rules and guidelines. When the decisions of a spectator can be the deciding factor in who wins a tourney or even the world cup, something aint right.
Huge respect for the catch cam operators, dodging discs like Neo standing in the exact line of play in bounds for the good camera shot. It's inevitable that they get hit once in a while. Meanwhile spectators are like fucking oblivious cows, and more often than not they also have the body of one.
Some of these are unfortunate and almost silly. Some of these are legit terrifying. Please do not throw discs at people or when people are unknowingly at risk of being hit.
@@ThunderMamba98so there’s no need to yell fore when it’s heading towards a spectator and a cameraman who are standing out of bounds? If it hits the spectator she still screams after the fact. Agreed. There should be the OB line, then a spectator line that's 3-4m back.

I love it when the player complains about it hitting someone but it was thrown so badly, it had zero chance of getting inbounds.
