It‘s turning while pedaling 😉 It‘s needed to reduce/eleminate the pedal kickback of the high pivot design and its rearward axlepath which „grows“ the chain lentgh between cassette and chainring.🤘🏻

It keeps the pedals from rotating backwards during big hits where the suspension is compressing.
If I had to act my age, I'd be like a 53 year old! I can't even imagine what that's like.

How tall are you so that you rode Size L and what was the stem length?
6'. I believe is was about 40mm. Pretty short
