A quick video I made explaining the basics of the art of soldering. This video is part 1 in a 2 part series explaining the basics and showing the method I use to join different diameter wires together. Some people might prefer to crimp in something like a butt connector, but I swear by solder and will avoid crimping whenever possible.

This video is one of the better videos on UA-cam on how to solder two wires together. I am making shrimp lights so I needed to know how to do this. This was a great video on how to do what I needed to do. A big thanks to the person doing the video. He kept it on topic. Thank you so very much.

One of best instructional/DIY videos I've ever seen. The detailed explanations about the tools and materials were concise (although i''ve seen it used countless times, and i had a rudimentary understanding of its applications, i never really new what flux did exactly) without the rambling, self-indulgent, drawn out, repetitive, self-explanatory time-waste that I am forced to sit through on all too many other vids. As a tribute, I will shut up and end the comment now with a simple "Thanks"

Thanks, this video was very well done. I'm having better success now that I know to touch the solder to the point where the iron contacts the wire. Before, I was trying to hold it on the opposite side of the joint, hoping the heated wire would melt the solder itself. That was giving me burned looking joints, and melted insulation. Very good info.

I needed this tutorial, best most thorough demo on UA-cam which taught me a lot. I used it to solder very tiny wire and heat shrink it to give a nice clean finish with good conductivity. Revisiting old solder work which looked like your examples of how not to do it.
I also waterproofed it by adding Black Witch neoprene adhesive to the ends of the heat shrink.

Thanks for taking the time and making the effort to include little tidbits and details which vividly illustrated to me why those little essentials to soldering are so essential. Thanks a lot! I have been all over youtube and people bashing over and over.. from what I have learned (new at this) is that when you make the X with stranded wires, it is called a "Lineman Splice" and is used for stranded ONLY. What they say is doing this will weaken stranded thus not recommended. This seems to be the best way as you have shown us and I have a LOT to solder and will be using this method. Thanks a lot man! Great work!!!
