Mission trips are a big scam. Many years ago I was overseas with an American mission group. The guy from the local church heading the construction asked me how much money those people spent on airline tickets. I said around $30,000. He said that with that money he could hire a few people from the church that were unemployed and have the job done three times faster and better and it would be enough money to start building another church. They said that they didn't need the mission group they just needed the money to hire unemployed local Christians. It is like that everywhere. Lots of poor foreign churches need help but all the US Christians do is to waste millions in airline tickets to go to countries were they are not needed. I know a pastor that is always bragging about all the mission trips he did. I asked why he did the trips. I asked if the locals could have done what he did. He said that yes but he enjoyed traveling. Mission trip became traveling and sightseeing. I met a pastor from Pakistan a while ago. He had many projects to do in his country but US churches wouldn't help him. There are good Christians in every country that can do the job. Just stop wasting money in airline tickets and send them the money. The cost of supporting an American missionary overseas sometimes is 3 times higher than supporting a local person.
So it’s not the Mission Trip that’s the problem.. it’s the people. You heart got to be directly focused towards God’s glory and not self glorifying. Mission trips itself is not a scam because it’s main purpose is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ. It’s one of the most important jobs as a Christian, in my opinion atleast.
@@itswysdumb There are lots of people in those countries who speak the language and can preach the Gospel. They just need financial support. Many people that go on mission trips travel 4,000 miles but don't go to their neighborhood to preach the gospel. They like the traveling, not the mission. The person who invented mission trips was a travel agent, not a missionary. Do you want to preach the Gospel? Pack your belongs and move to those countries. I've seen people from many countries coming to the US to get support for their mission efforts in their countries and don't get anything. Real mission is to help the locals. You don't need to travel there, just send financial support and they will know what to do. I've talked to pastors from many countries and they tell they don't need mission groups, they need the financial support. They have the people, they have the pastors and they have the churches.
@@airplane800 I was just having a conversation with a man who does mission work in Africa about 6 months out of the year and he had said everything you had. He goes over there to teach the bible to christians i think and doesn't even refer to himself as a missionary cause he doesn't feel he actually does enough to have that title. And another thing to add is that while spreading the gospel is great, any of the places you're going on a group mission trip to is already going to have heard the gospel and even if they haven't, I feel like they would take better to hearing it from one of their fellow men who understand their struggles more then from some privileged American. But even with all that said I think mission trips can have there place- but for the "missionary" rather then the community. I think if you go there with the mindset and understanding that it's really to help and teach you, not them, then it can be very beneficial.
@@itswysdumb Why are the local Christians and churches incompetent at this? You’re implying that $2000 spent to send over a foreigner with no knowledge of the culture, language, and often times the skills needed for the humanitarian work they’re doing is better than using that money in their local economy- supplying jobs to locals and financially helping the local churches. Regardless of your intention, that’s incredibly belittling to the communities you want to help at best, dehumanizing at worst.
My church is going to Puerto Rico. Ive been studying Spanish for 2 years and have been friends with a Puerto Rican family for 6+ years. They call me mamita and I am part of the "familia." I'll have to and pray on this now after reading all this.
If you really want to help send the money, there are many specialized non profit organizations, that know the region very well, know their needs and have many years of experience.

Why does it look more humanitarian aid to me than biblical missionary...
Many of the people who are unaware of God love need to feel it through aid or support before they can truly put their trust in the Lord.
Because biblical missionary work often requires humanitarian aid
