No kidding about birch being a pioneer species. It's common to see them here growing even in rain gutters or various cracks in buildings where there's enough moisture.
PLEASE expand this video and show how important it is to cut a plug for the birch hole using a stick that plugs and fits perfectly so it does not continue to flow , weaken the tree and make it susceptible to disease. This IS the responsible thing to do for everyone to know.
Very interesting! I love birch trees, however they don’t thrive much where I live, in the high desert. They are so beautiful. Thanks for giving us more info on them.
Wow sat in my garden in uk with 3 birch trees unfortunately one has bad dieback but will make good heating for this winter hope the other two keep healthy
In Sweden in the old days they used to call Birch trees for "poor man's cow" because of the sap it provided... A very versatile tree and the sap taste so good!
I don't see why not only they wont live as long. they prefer colder climates really but are fairly tolerant of anything thus why they're good pioneers.
@@BalticHomesteaders thank you... unfortunately, we cut down most of the silver birch due to root damage in the plumbing and mistletoe on every major branch. The remaining trees are dying and the mistletoe?! Well, I'll do as you suggested, I really like the sturdy silver birch!
Silver birch is highly susceptible to a beetle called bronze birch borer, especially if they are in too warm and dry of a climate. They can be treated for BBB with pesticides but as a Master Arborist I do not recommend planting this species in the US due to the pest problems.
Do you mean in the birch family or all trees? Obviously you can tap maples which is what maple syrup is made from. I’ve heard of a sweet birch but don’t know anything about it.
What do you mean you're going to drink that Birch juice that was dripping out of the tree you didn't mention anything about why you would drink it. Are you trying to say but it makes some kind of pancake syrup or you can make some kind of medicinal tea you didn't explain anything about the liquid drips that come out of the first tree when you make a hole
Hi, I think I covered it all in another video dedicated to the subject but yes you can drink the birch tree juice straight out of the tree and it's very good for you apparently. It has a slightly sweet taste but not like maple juice which is far sweeter. Here you go ua-cam.com/video/MoxcInVxFx4/v-deo.html

I have been climbing trees for 40 years. And I know for sure that there's more. In just one tree that can help us all

We do do that. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Thank you for the information, I just hate when ppl take from nature irresponsibly now you've taught me something that I didn't know.❤

Good for juice next year, too late in uk this year.
Thank you for presenting all these benefits that the birch provides. I drink chaga tea.
Do you enjoy the tea or you just drink it because it’s good?
That reminds me to go harvest a huge chaga growth I noticed during a walk in the forest.

Himalayan Birch tree in India is also referred tree.thanks for this informative video...are you in Latvia?
Yes we live in Latvia, thanks for watching.
@@BalticHomesteaders would like to learn more about flora of Latvia -
Neat vid
Do you think Brich could grow in the south East U.S. ?

Here in the USA, all of the silver birch on the property I manage, are dying and are filled with mistletoe! What to do?
All you can do is have the mistletoe removed branch by branch or it will spread much like it has. Sounds drastic but it’s the only way really.

@@miguelitos2446 yeah unfortunately not dealing with it lets it spread further so perhaps it wasn’t dealt with before you took over. Quite a shame.

Fire wood
And that we do.
I will give more respect to the birch tree
How so further but can you send to me the seeds on to my address
Birch tree seeds? Can you not get seedlings where you are? I can’t send anything like that out of the EU.
Birch trees cause global warming and the bark is dangerous to my unicorn 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
