Closer to Bucharest you can ski in Sinaia too but not ideal for beginners and also in Predeal, this one not ideal for advanced skiers and likely there was now snow there at that time. When you went up, there are a couple of chalets up there so you can have a bite or drink something and if you go to the peak, the view is decent- the peak being somewhere left of that round dish thingy. Also, in Poiana Brasov there are a bunch of good restaurants with traditional food. Stana Turistica, Sura Dacilor, Coliba Haiducilor and so on. And the resort is 12 km from the Brasov old town and in theory is part of the city, a neighborhood of the city. And you can also go there on foot, there are a few trails to hike there - you go to Pietrele lui Solumon and from there it's 4 km on Drumul Vechi plus a couple of alternatives. You can also hike from Tampa (so the small mountain with the Brasov sign) to the the mountain you went up to, you end up around where that lake is. And wow at prices for ski instructors. Oh btw, it gets dark early in the winter so that's why the cable car and gondola close at 4pm. The tree, it's a real tree and it's a big one, 57 years old, 20 meters in height. 6500 kg, 200k lights and was included in top 25 most beautiful Xmas trees in Europe this Xmas. The food situation, no idea, maybe because it's full of restaurants in the area or maybe they don't want the smoke. And good choice with the beans soup, next time you ski all day and at lunch you stop at a chalet on the mountain for a beans soup and a beer or mulled wine or a tea with rum.
We watched some awesome videos of skiing in Sinaia. As you said, it's not so beginner-friendly, but we hope to return there someday. Regarding Poiana, we still don't understand very well if it's a separate city or a neighborhood of the city. However, it's very convenient to have public transport from downtown Brasov to there. We considered having dinner in Poiana, but we were afraid of missing the last bus back to the city and our train, so we preferred to return to Brasov. Wow, we didn't know those facts about the Christmas tree! It's very very heavy ! We never thought about it. Unfortunately, this was our last video in Romania (for now), but we truly want to thank you for all the comments and information that you provided about Romania. We learned so much from it!
@@biaedoug Poiana Brasov is a neighborhood of the city from an administrative point of view and in a straight line it's maybe some 3 km from old town so not far but there aren't houses all the way up to there so you can view it as a mountain resort close to the city. In mid March there is a music festival in Poiana, called Mastiff but it's relatively new so not very large for now. BTW poiana means clearing (in the woods, area with no trees) so there are a few locations with the term in the name - Poiana Narciselor, Poiana Marului. And it's the largest mountain resort in Romania plus not far from the city so there is traffic, the busses are needed- and the bus is cheap too, i think it's 4 LEI one way. And as mentioned, it's an easy and quick hike to there too so plenty of people do that on weekends. So if you go from old town up, towards Ekaterina gate and beyond, that's an old neighborhood where Romanians used to live (outside of the fortified city there were 3 neighborhoods, one for Romanians, one for Hungarians and one for Germans) and at the end of that it's Pietrele lui Solomon ( Solomon's stones) where it's a nice area and there are tables and grills and that's where the hike starts and it's easy to get there. And not sure when the last bus is but assuming 11 pm or something. Also, it's 12 km to old town area and 16 km or so to the train station and a cab or Uber is not that much, in case of emergency. But it's ok, you had to visit the Xmas Market, that's there just a few weeks per year. Mentioned the restaurants cos foreign tourists are, most of the time, not even aware that the resorts exists. Plus, some of the restaurants there are quite good and nicely decorated too. And the tree was from Poiana Brasov, locally sourced. Oh BTW, Brasov made it on top 25 trending destinations for 2024 on TripAdvisor, it's just 21st but the only city in Europe that is on the list. Romania doesn't have fat marketing budgets to promote tourism but there is plenty to see and do so it's gaining traction. And yeah I know you went to Turkey, hope you are having fun, Turkey is nice, the history of an empire, good food. Plus it's 85 million people and quite large in terms of area. Prices are good too. Oh and the football fans and basketball fans in Turkey are quite enthusiastic so if you have the opportunity to go see a big game, might be interesting. And happy to help, info is not easy to find, especially in other languages.

Ahh faz sentido! Realmente vimos essas máquinas de fazer neve lá, provavelmente é para isso mesmo, manter a estação aberta por mais tempo.
