A jhandi is a Hindu prayer service in which an individual gives thanks to God for a multitude of reasons. It can be to celebrate a monumental event in one's life or a yearly thanksgiving service. The person hosting the prayer service will give offerings to different Hindu gods/goddesses depending on the reason for the jhandi or the family hosting it. This is a time where one should cleanse their mind and body (especially with fasting and restraining from meat, fish, eggs, etc) and spend time with their family members in preparation for the jhandi. My week was relaxing and calm as I prepared with my family members for this special day. I hope you enjoy this video and learn a little more about my traditions and customs.

I really enjoyed this Matthew. It is true what you said ,after doing puja you feel so different. A sense of calm and fulfillment. We try to do one at least once a year in our family. Tfs!

Yes. The lack of sleep and all of the hard work paid off. My mind, body, and spirit felt so at peace and light. It is always nice to keep these traditions up because future generations will know about where they come from.

Namaskar 🙏 greetings from Philadelphia USA,
Hey Mathew, I enjoyed watching Yu and yur awesome Family preparing everything, Bless 🙏 yur family.
I grew up adopted by Pakistani Muslim Family, and sad to say... But I am ex communicated from them because I left Islam after all the ISIS happened... I just no longer fealt it was right to remain in that. So bout the last 8 yr. Now I been immersing myself into HINDUISM, which I fell so deeply in love with. I am today a devotee of Lord 🙏 Shiva💖 and Maa Kali, and coming into this has been such a Beautiful replacement for me.
I heard Yu say that was yur first jhandi, but I m confused what Yu mean..
Yu never ever participated in a puja at home Yourself, or do Yu mean that was yur first jhandi at the Temple??
I have taught myself from internet and from asking the temple priest of how I should do puja myself at home, which I do often... However I never ever yet had my own puja. Done the temple, is this what Yu meant when Yu said yur first jhandi??

The malas were beautiful but next time don't use flowers that's been sprayed another color... for example you would need red flowers for hanuman baba... if you offered him one of the flowers that have been sprayed red in reality you offered him a white flower...

I love watching Hindu ceremonies from all over the world . Can you show a vlog about how a Hindu Guyanese wedding is celebrated ?
And if you don’t mind my asking ., what is the story behind your name “ Mathew “ . This is generally not a Hindu name .

    • @matthewsguyanesecooking4601

Yes I can do a Hindu Wedding vlog one day definitely. Matthew isn't a Hindu name lol. My parents are Christian but some of my moms sisters are Hindu so I took onto that more. That's why I am Hindu.
