This is the 6th in a series of videos where I teach basic strumming grooves or patterns for the new guitarist. In this lesson I teach the Celtic groove. A common name for various strumming patterns in the 6/8 meter. I try to break it down into easy to digest sections. It's a common groove for folk, pop, rock and world music.
I also included a "play-along" section at the end of the video where I strum the pattern very slowly using just two chords then increase the speed to a more usable/professional tempo.

I heard alot of traditional hymns in my head with that pattern and so it gave me some ideas to use at church! Thanks so much
I love 6/8.
Thanks for this. I am a one year player, so this is a little hard for me, but you have explained the timing very clearly. I will certainly go back and watch the earlier videos on strumming. I really appreciate the focus. I am left handed, learning to play right handed, so this focus on the right hand is a great help for me.
Perfect. It's why I make these videos.
And the hits just ‘a keep on coming! This one is very helpful to me as I REALLY like Celtic music, thanks Tom. Merry! Merry!
Thanks!
And Merry Christmas to you and your family 🎄🎶🎵
Love it, Tom!!!!
Thanks from GB for taking the time to post this today. I really appreciate your clear instructions and methods. Seasons Greetings to you and your family.
Is it cold and rainy there too?
@@TomStrahle No it's not really that cold and it isn't raining. So not very seasonal at all.
Love your Videos Been playing along and learning a lot, Thak you and keep up the great Tutorials
Thanks so much for watching, share if you think to.
Hello Tom, really enjoying your lessons having just discovered you. I’ve been hopping from tutor to tutor for months and getting nowhere really.
Great rhythm strumming lesson. Do more!
That was #6 so far. More coming in due time.
But I am now going to stick with you and work through all your lessons.
I like your style and approach and your voice. Do you take donations?
Thanks.
Enjoying the videos makes me happy.
Merry Christmas! Love this 6/8 groove. And now its mine...thanks!
That Dove is chiming like a bell...I now want to put one of those or a Hummingbird on my wish list!
Maybe next video you can start a GAS anonymous chapter? You are not helping :)
Yeah sorry about that. It’s been a long time since I had GAS (Gear Acquisition Syndrome). Most of my purchases are need based now.
Accent the one and the four... One 2 3, four 5 6, one 2 3, four 5 6 etc.
Cool.fun stuff. What was the strum you played as your fast example? Let me find the time stamp. 3:35 I love that example.
I will show many of the variations in future celtic strumming videos.
I find it near impossible to play the e minor 7 chord on 4 strings using my 3rd (ring) finger. I can't separate finger 3 from 2. I don't find this finger pattern on other chord sites. The closest I find is playing fret 3, b string with finger 4 and no finger on high e?
Totally fine Jack. You could also just play just a basic Em. Or Em7 this way 020000.
I used to own a Dove. Such a beautiful guitar for someone who stinks, like me.
