I heard yesterday the video with Anne Sofie Mutter. It is immensely impressive. Undoubtedly she is the world leader in the violinists. Now I've heard the same piece with Sarah Chang - and seen. Certainly this is a subjective attitude, but I prefer Sarah Chang. With her the violin sounds sweeter, I love the way their tempi, as well as she smiles in between - very human. Anne Sofie Mutter is and remains great, untouchable, but for me the queen of violin is Sarah Chang.
The classic Gypsy music played by Sarah Chang, Hypnotic and exotic, and the world tribute of Pablo de Sarasate. It too can never be forgotten and this rendition is well done and viewed..
Lady you are very talented, I love the sound of violin, i believe is the instrument of "Angels" in heaven too. Thank for sharing your precious gift that God gave you!!
I think she's ABSOLUTELY on top of this piece and see no fault in her performance at all - great stuff! and remember it is in the style of a showoff piece that a (an extmely talented) gypsy might play in a taverna somewhere in the Balkan mountains. My the only complaint would be in the slightly modern exaggerated swaying and bobbing of the accompanists. Look at Jascha Heifetz with Orchestre de Paris playing Scottish Fantasy (also on UA-cam) and compare. Can we have a little less self-conscious 'animation' and a little more relaxed dignity again, please? You people are a bloody distraction from the music not a rock band.
Actually my guess, since they don't have a conductor, is that she-as concertmistress-is also conducting the group while playing. In school, our orchestra would play districts without our teacher, so we'd have to conduct ourselves. One year, since I was 2nd chair and the second violins started the piece, it was up to me to set the tempo and start everyone. The simplest way is to just bob your instrument so everyone can see. Plus she's probably really emotionally into the piece ;)
I don't get why people look at her which such contempt. I may be a layman when it comes to classical music but I never felt anything like what I feel while listening to Miss Chang's performances. She is beautiful in all possible aspects.
Because she butchered the piece. So many mistakes, and does not really capture the essence of the song. A lot of her playing feels like flaunting of technique (bear in mind that there are quite a few mistakes) as opposed to playing to convey an emotion or emotions
I do not care for people who say she is not good and the rubbish. I know an excellent musician when I see one. She is my favourite violinist for her generation. I will not let the ones who know little or nothing about music. Mind you. I love her just as I love Shaham, Menuhin, Kreisler, Elman, Heifetz Hassid, Neveu, and others.
One of the most challenging pieces for violin can only be properly evaluated by someone who is able to play it themselves, or to contemplate their potential ability to do so. This performance is brilliant beyond description, complex, lyrical, stylistically incredibly difficult and mesmerizing. Unbelievably amazing.
But there are some basic things that anybody that is used to listen classical music for a long time can criticize, like the quality of the sound that the musician produce with an instrument. In this case, the part of the allegro molto vivace was horrible.

I have some of her CDs and they are incredibly wonderful to play in a rainny day when you stay home. Go through your photos or your closet while music is on. You flip your pages or move your clothes with the beat. It is really fun and enjoyab. Try it!
how many months does it take to master a music piece like this ? a life time ?? . look at the audience , their mouths are open in disbelief . as someone with zero music talent I am in awe with someone like this
Bravo. Sarah Chang gave one of her best performances in this rendering of Pablo de Sarasate's Zigeunerweisen. She deserves the highest accolade with this breathtaking performance.

Pokesnp Paris the biggest thing I hear is in her sautille (staccato), it's too choppy. the note should still have tone.
Concert in the open air with very many people around her , and perhaps the temperature not too good.
