General Mills closed our factory about 10 years ago. They gave us approximately 6-12 months notice. They also provided 2 weeks severance for each year of service up to 52 weeks. Kept the health insurance at cost unless you took a lump sum. Had a couple job fairs at our cafeteria. We saw it coming, Company over built and had idle equipment… so they closed the oldest facility.

This happened in the WI 30 years ago and I worked for the company driving a forklift. It was cheaper for Wis-Pak to take up production and the franchise buys from them and distributes the product out to their territory. The individual Pepsi Franchise didn't have to worry about production and couldn't compete with Wis-Pak, because Wis-Pak were running their lines 24/7 producing for several territories. Basically, the franchise becomes a warehouse. I worked 3rd shift doing the bag-in-the-box production putting myself through college. Interesting notes: Mt Dew from the fountain dispenser is totally different (formula) than from the bottle and cans. Also, I remember my co-workers getting addicted to pure concentrated Mt dew or Hawaiin Punch (pure sugar). Culvers had their own special pallets, and at the end of the week you could buy a 24 pack for $4.00 and that wasn't a deal back then.

First of all stop the blame game, most of the time companies go under because of poor stewardship, and usually it's within that's what brings companies down, not doing things in decency and order stealing and the workers have to suffer for their wrong doings.

Worked for Yellow Fright for 30 years when doors closed. Did not get an official letter from the company. WARNS act must let employees know 60s in advance. If a company violates the WARNS act the company must pay up to 60 days of pay. Been over a year since Yellow closed and no money.

General Mills closed our factory about 10 years ago. They gave us approximately 6-12 months notice. They also provided 2 weeks severance for each year of service up to 52 weeks. Kept the health insurance at cost unless you took a lump sum. Had a couple job fairs at our cafeteria. We saw it coming, Company over built and had idle equipment… so they closed the oldest facility.

Illinois taxes on business are very high-they can ship this stuff in from Wisconsin much cheaper. Illinois has a very high debt (bonded debt per capita is among the highest in the USA). Ask your self-where does all the money go? Mostly state employee pensions-and they all move to Florida.

This happened in the WI 30 years ago and I worked for the company driving a forklift. It was cheaper for Wis-Pak to take up production and the franchise buys from them and distributes the product out to their territory. The individual Pepsi Franchise didn't have to worry about production and couldn't compete with Wis-Pak, because Wis-Pak were running their lines 24/7 producing for several territories. Basically, the franchise becomes a warehouse. I worked 3rd shift doing the bag-in-the-box production putting myself through college. Interesting notes: Mt Dew from the fountain dispenser is totally different (formula) than from the bottle and cans. Also, I remember my co-workers getting addicted to pure concentrated Mt dew or Hawaiin Punch (pure sugar). Culvers had their own special pallets, and at the end of the week you could buy a 24 pack for $4.00 and that wasn't a deal back then.
