      Pepsi explained that the facility is old outdated and too small. They didn't mention the taxes and expenses of doing business in chicago . They will likely expand another plant outside of the chicago area that has low crime and low taxes .. it's a win for Pepsi and another loss for liberal chicago.

    It sucks but they are getting paid through December. I was laid off on July 4th after 5 years. Never late, never called in sick. Started as a temp and worked my way up to Production Supervisor and it was all for nothing. Companies do not care about you .

    Same thing happend at my job in late september. I was there 22yrs... It still feels weird to me waking up and having nothing to do. Many of my coworkers struggling.. Im ok.. Im single without kids.. just taking a couple months off.. Its happening everywhere. Good Luck Everyone.

      It does. Companies give what is effectively 60 days extra paid vacation so the workers ( usually union ) don't destroy the plant / tamper with the product ESPECIALLY if it is food related. That is also why police were on hand to make sure the workers don't cause trouble.

She got paid while they were reviewing her case (6 months paid leave). So, even professional get fired, they'll find someone cheaper to take her job.

      I was hired in the first group of people to work for Amazon in Florida. I loved my job until one day white buses pulled up in front of the building.
      Amazon hired over a thousand Venezuela people through a Temp Agency. Our hours were drastically cut, they worked full time plus over time.
      During one of our meetings I stood up and spoke my mind. RULE NUMBER ONE, you had to understand English because of the machinery, they didnt which put everyone in danger. I was so upset I QUIT.

    Layoffs have always been happening. My husband was laid off from an aerospace company after 20 yrs. Right before the holidays too. Lost the pension, security, filed bankruptcy. Had to reassess life. Retrain in new field. Ate a-lot of gov cheese. Im sure Pepsico calls it “restructuring.” They’d rather pay a small severance now…than the pensions ppl planned their futures and retirements on. Many large co’s do this, no loyalty. Profits before ppl. Pepsi Revenue: $23.76 billion

    Worked for Yellow Fright for 30 years when doors closed. Did not get an official letter from the company. WARNS act must let employees know 60s in advance. If a company violates the WARNS act the company must pay up to 60 days of pay. Been over a year since Yellow closed and no money.

    How does Pepsi get the Chicago pd to escort employees off the property? Is it as simple as a local Pepsi manager contacting the Chicago pd and saying we are concerned about potential destruction to our property when we fire our employees? Do they have to show evidence to justify their concerns or is escorting recently fired employees off a company's property a service the Chicago pd offers to anyone?

    General Mills closed our factory about 10 years ago. They gave us approximately 6-12 months notice. They also provided 2 weeks severance for each year of service up to 52 weeks. Kept the health insurance at cost unless you took a lump sum. Had a couple job fairs at our cafeteria. We saw it coming, Company over built and had idle equipment… so they closed the oldest facility.

Yes, I was a factory worker in a fiberglass plant. Hot in the summer, cold in the winter. Would work overtime ocassionly, cut firewood, etc , etc. One did, what one had to do, to survive.

    Illinois taxes on business are very high-they can ship this stuff in from Wisconsin much cheaper. Illinois has a very high debt (bonded debt per capita is among the highest in the USA). Ask your self-where does all the money go? Mostly state employee pensions-and they all move to Florida.
