- Took a wee trip to Dumfries to visit the grave of Robert Burns : at the Robert Burns Mausoleum
Robert Burns was buried in a simple grave in St Michael’s churchyard in 1796 but visitors struggled to find it. Friends and admirers of his work gave donations to fund a grand mausoleum where the Bard was reburied in 1815. The white structure with its green copper dome now stands out clearly among the many elaborate sandstone memorials in the churchyard.
The mausoleum can be viewed at any time with an information panel outside. The mausoleum is also opened up twice a day except Sunday from April to September. Visitors can step inside between 11.15-11.30am and 2.15-2.30pm. - Розваги
