Paul, very excellent about your health journey. Both my husband and I were diagnosed with T2 diabetes eight months ago. I walk on the treadmill and use my stationary bike but I don't kill myself on them. I have lost fifty pounds, got off high BP meds and got my A1C from 9 to 4.9. My husband walks a lot for work, and he's lost 200 pounds and got his A1C from 14 to 5.2. we have also changed our diet immensely. We allow carbs to come from our meats, cheeses, fish, veggies and the few condiments we may use. Our heaviest carbs come from a couple pieces of sugar free candy from time to time or some carb smart ice Cream. I found getting in poor physical health was really easy and trying to fix it is much harder but worth it. HE's got us.
My son has his own roofing/construction business... he gets plenty of exercise during his working hours but he truly believes that working out everyday improves everything... your mental to your physical. He just stated to me he feels he's in better health today than he's ever been.

Hi Paul, keep up the good work 😁👍❤ You don't need to go to the Gym to exercise and lose weight, just eat in moderation and do plenty of exercise. Your job as a Scrapman is an all round exercise lifting, carrying, climbing up and down on the lift and all the walking around you do with the items you pick up.
Good to hear your trying to make your self more healthy. I'm heading towards 60 now . I have had. Type 2 diabetes for a while now & was shocked this year to find out I was getting it under control so much so I'm now pre diabetic. Don't discount the scrapping exercise. I used to be on my feet 12 hours as an RN in the hospital but making my trips count! I never had foot pain! I think consistency was the key. 10 minutes a day would be fine and walking is the absolute best. I once did a water aerobics class and it really was intense! You're doing fine just keep doing it 😊
Hi Paul, I understand exactly what you are saying about health especially in later years. 4 years ago is was knocked off my motorbike by a car turning left in front of me, and I ended up with 5 broken bones and 2 shattered bones which kept me in hospital for one year! I had to learn to walk again. That accident cost me my mobility and income! I will always have pain in my body, severe pain, so I really miss the health I had before the accident. I’m only 72 and quite incapacitated!
I took a free class called pre diabetes and it sugested you do more than what your normal exercises were so if you count your steps and you do 3, 500 start out doing 400 more every couple weeks to build your endurance! But they wanted you to other exercise so youkept strength in your balance muscles
I find Paul to be inspiring. I'm thinking I should start driving around in my area picking up scrap metal. I'm not sure if anyone else is doing it around here or maybe an ad in the local newspaper.

Well, you said it, Paul. It’s great having a physical job, but if the breathing and heart rates are increased for a minute due to the refrigerator you’re putting on the lift gate, it’s not the same as 15-30 minutes of sustained cardio. Same for muscle/bone strength. It’s hard getting going, but be disciplined and it will get easier. Poco a poco will get you there.
Getting stronger, the better and safer to lift more scrap? I can get behind that! Going to a gym would do my more harm than good - probable surgery among other things - but if it helps, have at!

Hey brother, I am a retired RN. What you do daily should not be considered exercise, your body is used to that amount of movement. You need to discuss an exercise program with your doctor to figure out exactly what will benefit you the most without causing any problems or damage to your body. Keep up the great work and videos brother. God bless!
You are so right. I have a great doctor. He is a holistic doctor but he's not allowed as a VA doctor to be outwardly holistic. He is the one assisting me in my health journey. Not through pharmaceuticals but through nutrition and what to avoid. Minimally processed food. Whole food. I only drink water and coffee now. But we haven't yet discussed the exercise aspect.

Healthcare worker here around your age. All exercise is important and counts. Our bodies either "grow" stronger or "grow" weaker depending upon the demands that we put on them. For me, working out is not just a physical thing, but a spiritual thing as well. The gym can be another place of communing with God. It's another place to be dependent upon Him and to listen and be guided by Him.
I started Scrapping just for the Exercise. I spent most of my life behind computer playing Video games. And I had Reached a massive 430 lbs. A few years ago I found God, Started Scrapping and eating better. I weighed in yesterday morning at 298 lbs. The problem is I have been sitting at that 300 level for about 6 months. I don't think scrapping is a great exercise routine. It was a great start, but you need to get your heart rate up and to be honest most of the time you are scrapping you are driving around looking for scrap. Not really getting your heart rate up.
Great to hear about your progress. I think you're right. Most of the time scrapping I'm sitting in the truck. Honestly my back and hips can hurt from the sheer amount of driving
I'm going to take your suggestion to be me today. I'll be interested to see how it turns out. 😉 I took down a 10' x 12' metal patio gazebo a few days ago. If you're going to be in the neighborhood, stop by and I'll help you load it. If you can't make it, I'll just put it in the mail. Have a good weekend! 🙂

You are talking about health, our grandparents, grandmothers, parents ate sugar, salt, lard and lived to be 90-100 years old. Now suddenly it's unhealthy. Pharmaceutical companies and doctors make a fortune from us by convincing us of their theses Pozdrawiam z Polski
Your job gives you bulky strength in your voluntary muscles, but you need to stretch to avoid injury. Also any type of balancing exercise can improve kinetic awareness and prevent injury from balance issues. Yoga and tai chi can help with that. You also need some cardio.

Gyms are overrated. Just keep getting out and stay active Paul. And continue eating healthy. Seems simple but it will continue helping you feel better. Take care.
Enjoy your day Paul 😃
Hey Paul! My Dr told me walking is the best exercise. Motion is lotion according to my chiropractor.
Niiiice
I was told that my daily routine job is not considered exercise as my body is used to to doing that. So need to exercise also a few times a week.
"How important is going to the gym?" Your answer is contained in your question :)
You are right. It's a degree, not necessarily Yes or no
I think scrapping is a lot of exercise! You are constantly jumping in and out of your truck, lifting, shoveling. dragging and picking up all day!
Your awesomeness is appreciated ❤❤❤
You're the best!
Toasted metal rods, it’s what’s for dinner lol
😆😂
You keep the zen going brother. Fell last week came out of the hospital with a stint.
Did they discover a heart issue while you were at the hospital?
Yeah I'm trying to do the same thing here My A1C was 11.8 now it's 11.1 I'll go back to the doctor's another month see how good it is My sugar's been down they've been going down to 100 to 175 been eating more healthier congratulations on getting better hopefully I can do the same just got to put my mind to it you don't know what you can accomplish if you don't put your mind to it you got a motivate yourself you can't wait for other people to help you you got to learn how to motivate yourself to getting better
Hey Juan. Keep on keeping on my friend
Try dropping the lift down 1/8" or so when unloading and things won't catch on the edge of it so much. Hope it helps. Keep up the good work Paul.
Hey Mike. I think this is the best comment ever. Seriously this is going to save a lot of time
Hi Paul,,, I watched you struggle with the stove, getting it out of your truck,,, if you lay it on it's side so that it is not sitting on those 4 little spikey feet,, then you should be able to just slide it right off,, real easy like,, :-)
Hi Paul! Are you still doing keto, I am! I'm feeling pretty good on it! I notice a difference if I add some bread in once in a while. I feel blah after. For exercise I do virtual boxing on a VR, it's so much fun, I do 3 sessions twice a day! I have the oculus quest 2. 🎉🎉❤

Thanks Joseph. That makes a lot of sense actually.
Ciao Paul sempre in gamba 👍💪💯
I took down a 10' x 12' metal patio gazebo a few days ago. If you're going to be in the neighborhood, stop by and I'll help you load it. If you can't make it, I'll just put it in the mail. Have a good weekend! 🙂
I would love to be in the neighborhood. I miss the West Coast. A lot
i went from type 2 diabetic to non diabetic it took me 3 months of watching what i was eating to get it down, i had a stroke so that was my big warning
Have you recovered from the stroke symptoms?
@@ScrapPalletMan , No, at the time when i was in getting diagnosed for the stroke , they discovered i needed a pacemaker for my heart , so i got that fitted as well
👍
You are talking about health, our grandparents, grandmothers, parents ate sugar, salt, lard and lived to be 90-100 years old. Now suddenly it's unhealthy. Pharmaceutical companies and doctors make a fortune from us by convincing us of their theses Pozdrawiam z Polski
It always looks as if that power tailgate of yours could squish your thumb when it closes if you aren't careful.
Oouuuch
You have leaves on your trees ,we don't.
They popped out in the last 7 days. Mostly the last 2 days
Your job gives you bulky strength in your voluntary muscles, but you need to stretch to avoid injury. Also any type of balancing exercise can improve kinetic awareness and prevent injury from balance issues. Yoga and tai chi can help with that. You also need some cardio.
I think you're right. Spot on
