- This week we look at Lewmar Windlass Service & Battery Update on the Lagoon 380. Fitting USB outlets. It is winter here and the maintenance is never ending. But it has to be done.

In 2018 we left the UK to sail around the world slowly. After Brexit, a "Pandemic" and major heart surgery we are still sailing, documenting our travels and showing you what we have learned so far.
We are hoping to complete our journey, and travel right around the world even if we have had a few setbacks along the way. We will continue at our own pace and that may be fast or slow. We want to be sure not to miss anything and have stories to tell our grandchildren when we are old and grey.

Good to see you both looking and sounding well. Found out something which may expand the range of boats available if I get a secondhand one. If its a Classic Mast on an otherwise nice boat, apparently changing to a new Mast with in Mast Furling, isn't necessarily that expensive. So things look up. Lots of space because the marina is half empty Barry. We had a light breeze and a few drops of rain. It is a lot different here even though we are a just a few hundred miles east. Sail Safe mate. Ant & Cid
Why did your friends decide to go with AGM instead of Lithium? I know the initial cost is less but overall it seems like lithium is a better deal over the life of the batteries. Mostly asking because the algorithms like comments, not really my business why, but curious if there are other factors. 🙂
Hi Jim thats a very good question. Basically we did the maths for conversion to Lithium. Batteries, Upgrade solar, Alternator(s) Wiring. Charging (old charger would not do lithium) etc, etc. The extra over cost from a straight like for like change was going to take quite a while to offset and they do not intend to keep the Cat that long. Lots of Bosch Batteries are actually just rebadged Varta Batteries, tbh, I've found the Varta Silver stop Start (a terrible idea for cars, I always switched off Stop Start function when I was still driving) Batteries to be outstanding tbh. their Alkaline AA Batteries seem better than most too.
