If Hayes is trying out players based on club form, 2 years out from the next major tournament, she shouldn't be criticised. Wiegman is trying to use international matches to play off-form players back into form 8 months from a tournament, she should be criticised. Williamson shouldn't be in the squad on merit. Let her get some form back at Arsenal and come back when she's ready. Give someone who's earned it a chance as we don't know who will be available next summer. Miedama just needed more knee surgery, Williamson may need it too at some point
Leah will come back from this I'm sure. She's too good not to. Maybe all the stuff at Arsenal has just got to her a bit. She will be back to her imperious best soon enough
Emma Hayes is doing a fantstic job in trying to push forward new players and start the generational change the USWNT needs. The real challenges, though, are the upcoming matches vs. England and The Netherlands.Great to see all the new players that are coming in. The Ballon D'Or is just a popularity vote, which sometimes doesn't reflect the actual best players (see the men's result). England had an amazing first year under Sarina Wiegman, but almost all the matches were with home advantage, including the successful home Euro. Since then it had to go through a simiar process as the USWNT with players retiring or going through injuries. The defence really has to improve. Hope Sarina will be able to find the new correct mix Also the level of to top teams is constantly getting better and dominating teams are a part of the past.
Naomi (and Lauren Hemp) should definitely have been up there, near the top of the vote. And no disrespect to the brilliant Aitani Bonmati but Caroline Graham Hansen was surely the best player in the last year? The positive for England is that all their games seem to be against top quality opposition now. Even though the odd high-scoring win can be good for the confidence, they are being tested every game and can learn a lot from that. The Euros win was a unique moment in time - every game at home, no changes due to injuries or suspensions for the whole tournament - it’s rare that everything falls into place like that and it may never happen again. Future tournaments are more likely to need the battling performances in unfamiliar cities that got them through to the World Cup final. One possible criticism of Sarina is that she is trying to stick to that past success and not building for the future by giving newer players more game time, which could mean England coming unstuck if her regular favourites are unavailable or in poor form and the alternatives have very little international tournament experience. There are positives to that too - the fact that she stuck with Leah Williamson when she was in really poor form did seem to give Leah some of her confidence back. Yes, it meant sacrificing goals in friendly matches but in the long term it could be a positive. Though probably disheartening for a player like Alex Greenwood if she is so strong but gets left out. I think if you want to have all possibilities covered, you have to give more playing time to the younger players like Grace Clinton, Aggie Beever-Jones and even bringing Khiara Keating back into the squad, as it’s extremely rare that you’re going to have everyone fit and available for a tournament after playing a whole season. You’re more likely to have about 80% of your first choices available and you want the ones who have to step in to be fully ready for it.
england beat southafrica 2-1 BUT 4 DAYS BEFORE = denmark-south africa 5-0 =SO ENGLAND ARE NOT GOOD ENOUGH also remember= england-germany 3-4 (4 days later= germany-australia 1-2)
Sarina Wiegman has been resting on her laurels, and neglected the necessary refreshing of the lionesses. Because of her competence England have no chance of retaining the Euro title. It’s time for Wiegman to be awarded the order of the boot!!
Hello Sarah and Sara. Wilma is MVD. You two summed up the rest. My spell check wants to change Girma to Grime, which was the opposite of how she played.
20:01 everyone of us knows other team that did it a bit better that england against USA (the team that was robbed in 2019 WC against usa with 2 soft penalty ,and won the next WC)

I agree with everything you say here! 👏👏👏
Best defender in the world now she can score goals 🎉🎉 we happy what can't she do❤

Why are the uswnt playing all their games at home?
I agree with the part about deleting comments. Just because someone says they don't like something doesn't automatically make it "hate speech."
The defending in the past two lionesses friendlies has been poor if they want to beat uswnt then they have to sort themselves out big time.

I love that Naomi Girma got her first USWNT goal(s) before Becky Sauerbrunn did. 😂
I’m travelling to the game against the USA. 🇺🇸 as a lionesses fan. It’s going to be a stormer of a game. I honestly can’t call it.
It will be a tough game , USA on the up but with home advantage hopefully a win for the Lionesses

If usa dont beat england by 2-3 goals i think USA will be in trouble against tougher comp.
A lot of stars where not nominated, only few defenders are rated.
❤
