Here let me explain to you.
In january 1st 2000, theres a computer bug names Y2k bug that almost ended the whole world even though it just the year changed to 1900 instead of 2000 (i cant explain even more so, if your seeing this, try extend this, if not. Whatever)
Basically, there was a fake "bug" in the new year of 1999 where people said that the devices were only fitted to change the last 2 digits of the year, for example, on the new year, instead of 2000, it would be 19100, the government around the world tried spending millions to fix it, but in the end, it turned out to be fake

It generated REAL hysteria.
Its a bit sad that people call this hysteria when in reality it did not happen because programmers went out of their way to patch as many machines as they can.
Well you have to consider the fact that nothing major happened because of a last-minute intervention in 1998. If there wasn’t any intervention something was going to happen, maybe not the end of the world but something situational.
