      Thanks for watching! Yeah, we all pretty much take buses out to our placements, unless you're in Jeju, then you take a plane. And then the teachers come pick you up Haha

    Hi so I have a question. I went on the Epik website today but it isn't working. As an Epik teacher has Epik reaches out to you and explained why it has been off?

      BriEva13 Hi! And they wouldn’t let us EPIK teacher know why it isn’t working. Are you using a Mac? Sometimes I had issues loading the page.

    Hi! Can I ask did you have any experience teaching prior to EPIK? You seem so natural about it!

      Taryn Thank you so much! 😭 I don’t have any previous teaching experience. The closest thing I have is Kumon? But I mostly graded assignments and supervised the kids to make sure they finished their work.

    Did you want to be an epik teacher in Busan?Or was there somewhere else you'd have liked to be placed? Also do you like Busan,is it a nice city?

      Saamiya Saleh I actually applied for Seoul, but got placed in Busan. I met the in-class tefl/tesol requirement (50 hours, I believe) for Busan. I really like living in Busan - think of it as being the less busy/crowded version of Seoul. I live in a nice location where I can take the metro or bus to Seomyeon or go to the beach. I love visiting the beach during the weekend.

      @@kristinalin4565 appreciate your reply😁im thinking of doing teaching in seoul did you use Korvia?is SMOE a good choice, seeing as it is the seoul metropolitan office of education which is where Ide like to be placed?

    • @kristinalin4565
      @kristinalin4565  5 років тому

      I actually applied early and direct, and got Busan. A lot of people who met the hours requirements just got Busan, even if they applied elsewhere, like Seoul or Daegu for example. Honestly from what I heard from the KakaoTalk EPIK chats, some people had issues with theirs schools - the ones that teach at Seoul. Plus there are less benefits, compared to other provinces. I think the other major cities (Busan, Daegu, Ulsan, etc.) would be a better choice, but it is you up to you. If you want the big city with lots to do, then try for Seoul. Or maybe even consider a hagwon (but check the make sure the hagwon isn’t on the blacklist).

      It's very necessary to have! You'll need it to get WiFi, a bank account, cell phone service, etc.

    Hey Kristina! I’m applying for epik and I have a dog as well! I know their main thing is about how the land lord may not allow dogs. I think everything else can be easily solved with some planning and a pet hotel but anyways lol I was wondering how you knew your apartment would allow a dog because I’m STRONGLY considering taking the risk and brining mines, but I don’t want to get past putting him in pet boarding for a month blah blah blah only to finally get him and he can’t even come to the apartment. I’m assuming you asked your school but because of Epik policy were they weird about it

      I prepped all the stuff needed to bring my dog to Korea, and had my boyfriend bring her over after I got the okay. My school didn't care at all. EPIK just says you can't have a pet because of orientation, and you don't know if your apartment complex will allow pets.

      @@kristinalin4565 I saw immediately after lol okay! I'm in china now and I think i will come early maybe by two weeks and just set up a pet boarding thing. Especially if covid 19 is still a thing and I have to quarentine anyways. OR if im still in china maybe leave him with a friend and bring him over since the flight is only 1.5 hours from here to incheon. Thank you though! I really dont wanna leave him even though my family would love if he came to the USA lol. Do you also have a video on pet friendliness of Korea. I'm going to binge watch you lol so dont worry I'll find it. if you're doing a Q&A soon I'd really like to know if their strict about dogs on the trains and in public there because they are here!

      @@rmsfakelaugh8164 Sorry, I've been pretty busy! So I'll write down quick notes, and I'll make a video eventually...LOL
      General: Modern apartments are more likely to allow pets than older apartments. On the metro your dog needs to be in a carrier, bag or carriage. If you want to ride a taxi, you'll need to have your dog in a carrier. But don't be surprised if they reject you, if they do, you'll need a pet taxi. If you need a groomer, look up "Pet Beauty" on Naver, and I believe for the vet, it's "Animal Hospital". Pet hotels are usually in the nicer pet shops or the vet. It's usually about 30,000 won/ night (35,000 won/ night if it's a busier season).
      Busan: If you're near the beach, there are a lot of pet shops and pet groomers. People walk their dogs along the boardwalk and on the beach. Your dog needs to be on a leash (but at night, some people just let their dogs out without a leash). There's a Busan pets page with lots of helpful people!
      Seoul: Not as pet friendly. A lot of the time tho, if your dog is in a carrier, they don't notice, so they don't say anything. I didn't notice a pets page for Seoul.

      You can search up courses on Google, I took mine in-person, but I know a lot of people do it online because it’s cheaper. In-person hours are more valuable than online hours, just something to consider if you’re looking to teach at a certain province.
