    While the intro seems to drag on a little bit to me, the actual instruction is well done, easy to follow, and by far the best of the multitude of videos I've watched trying to figure out how to make these things.Thank you.

    Just some constructive criticism for the maker of this video to help you in the future: realize that you need to keep the speed at which you're explaining constant throughout and that that speed needs to be SLOW. In particular when you're showing the transition from one set of tucks to the next set AND when you're rotating the finished knot, rotate it very *slowly*. You flip back and forth so fast, I can't tell how the transitions between tuck directions are supposed to look in the final knot. I don't intend to be mean with these comments...just helpful. Thank you for the video.

    anyways, you can put a rock or marble inside to add weight. And if you don't like that extra bit of string, put it on the inside

    In the Navy this knot was used to throw (or using a special "gun" to shoot) the monkey knot to another ship cruising along side your own ship. Then they would use the smaller rope (line) to pass over a larger line, then a larger line, until a cable large enough to move supplies over from one ship to another. Boatswain's Mates are normally the best riggers and knot tie-ers onboard ship.

    Thanks for the video. I've seen your previous one(and I liked that one too), but I think this one had a better angle. Also, I think you helped me straighten out my problem with the number of turns the rope needs to wrap around.

    Great idea using heavier rope as opposed to paracord, much easier to see the intricate wrapping, hands dont block the view

    On top of that, attach three of them together and make a Boleadora (three weights.) Make sure one of the balls hangs lower than the other two, and the lower ball should weigh more than the two shorter ones. Hold it by the heavy ball, swing it around above your head and throw it at the legs of your target. It's an excellent hunting tool and with practice--and maybe a little bit of luck--you can hobble your target and take it down. There are versions with as many as eight or nine weights!

    All the videos on youtube show a 3 loop monkey fist. The actual # of rounds you will need to make depends on the size of the center object and the diameter of your rope. Be aware of this when making a monkey fist. FOR EXAMPLE: using standard paracord with a 1" steel ball requires FIVE rounds to completely cover the sphere inside. The extra rounds significantly increase the complexity of the tie and the time to tighten; patience is a virtue with that.

    Kevlar rope is free. Fancy bicycle tires ($60 and up) are folding, since you can carry two in your back pocket. The bead is made of Kevlar instead of steel wire. Fancy and whealthy cyclit throw them away every day. For a polypropylene or a poly ethylene line, I'd go for a "melt-down" bulge, fist or knot over a hot red kitchen range instead of tape. JMOHO

    Is it possible to layer monkey's fists to build up heft and size? You'd really just have to cut the smaller one away from it's line and use it as the weight for the larger.

  • @cscrossman
    @cscrossman 11 років тому

    Actually, yes I am well aware if how it works. I don't mean to say it would crack. Because put simply, it wouldn't. But, the speed a person can create using a whip is incredibly high. With that being said, having something like this on the end could inflict some respectable damage.

    Excellent video and instructions. You are very professional in your presentation. Now I am off to Home Depot to buy some rope. I would like to encourage you to at least earn some pocket money with your knot tying if you don't already. There is a Schimmerhorn Rope and Cordage Company that should employ you to visit in Home Depot's and Lowes and give demonstrations. The best to you, friend.

    @McIrish12 it will unravel itself eventually. But if you tighten it, as shown in the video, but without a weight, it closes in on itself and becomes stable.

    Very good. I want to use the cord for a light switch. This method means I don’t have to decide the length ( drop) until I’ve finished, neither do I have to pull the whole long length through like the method when you tie a knot ay the start
