  • In this lesson, we go into some details of the backflow prevention configurations along with details of the valve itself. The Anti-Siphon Valve is a hybrid product, combining a solenoid valve with a backflow preventer.

Thanks for the video I am using the newer rainbird anti-siphon valves on a drip line 2 other valves are working just fine however the front anti-siphon portion of the valve leaks water when it runs assesntionally the plunger of the anti-siphon is not being pushed up all the way instead of running full pressure down the outlet line and there the regulator filter is clean. So I am assuming the the anti-siphon plunger is not being pushed up all the way allowing the leak. I do have two other valves of the same type working just fine and the drip lines are at the same level as the problematic valve. Was just curious if I needed a check valve to stop this issue or if I needed to do something else?

This is really helpful. I know next to nothing about irrigation system but can understand this. I live on a steep hill. My irrigation valves with anti-siphon are installed in the middle of the height. It should have been on the very top because there are irrigation heads from the top to the bottom of the hill.

Hi Anne! You're right, those valves should have been installed at the top. You could potentially have some backflow happen. The fix would be to change the valves to normal solenoid valves and put a backflow preventer at the beginning of the main line. Thanks for watching!

Could I just connect pvc from the antisiphon valves directly to my spigot? Then use the shut of valve that connects to that spigot to shut water on and off when time to use the sprinkler system? As long as I don’t have it on longer than 12 hours.

Thank you for your video! On one of my sprinkler lines, water flows out of the air gap area on the A.S. valve once the watering cycle is complete. Water runs out for approximately 8 seconds, almost like it is draining the line. The other 3 valves do not do this. Is this normal/common? Thanks again!

These types of valves can be under constant pressure from the upstream side, yes? Or do they need a master valve to prevent them from being under constant pressure? Thanks

Yes, they can have constant pressure to them. Thanks for watching!

Where is the “how to use”?
Your tutorial ought to be called “what does a anti siphon valve do and how does it work”.
I’m looking for: how to operate it as there is a open/close lever and a round knob to adjust water.

Hey Leif, thanks for watching. You're not wrong about that. There is a video in the playlist called Solenoid Valve Features and Options that has info about the knob on top which is a Flow Control Valve. The switch is pretty uncommon, is that a Weathermatic valve? It's just an "internal" bleed, used to manually operate or flush the valve. And so, to explain the decision to not have every product video fully comprehensive: most people won't watch a video past 3 minutes, hardly anyone past 7 minutes. So I had to stop making 17 - 20 minute videos, no one would watch to the end. And I pack in info to the very end.

Surely the valve comes with instructions.

Thank you so much. If I saw this video when I started my drip irrigation project, It would be installed by now!

@@sunshine-iv5ff One would think, but usually all they give you are the specs, not really much in the way of instructions.
