The amazing Barbara Bel Geddes. In my opinion Miss Ellie was as important to the series as JR. She was the moral center of the show (with few exceptions). I heard Patrick Duffy once describe her performance as “small but powerful”. He wasn’t referring to her stature, but the powerful restraint which propelled her performances. When the show first ran I simply loved watching her; and all these years later her appeal has not abated. By the time Dallas came along she was an acclaimed actress and she did not not disappoint as Miss Ellie.
I love this show!!!! I miss these kind of show's, Dynasty too!!! Nothing on tv comes close to these show's.... Put them back on tv, we need them!!!! 🥀🥀🥀🥀....
Miss Ellie was a G! Good work on this video. But I am surprised you didn't include the scene where she threatened the reporter with a rifle. That was my favorite.
I will always remember waiting and watching Dallas with my mom dad sister and brother every Sunday night, then we all went out to a local motel to dance away to great music.😊 I live in the uk ❤
Without any doubt, Bel Geddes was head and shoulders above the rest of this cast as an accomplished actress of stage and screen for decades and it all shows in the clip. She was an actress of restraint and authority over both her character and the dialogue. Incredible consistency in every scene.
JR says (about Sue Ellen and Dusty at the Southern Cross Ranch) “She’s living in sin down there with that cowboy.” How funny! Like JR wasn’t living in sin from day one! 🤣🤣🤣
It always tickles me to imagine her taking a horsewhip to Jock after he knocked her up and didn't want to marry her at first lol. She really did love that man or else she could have easily gone back to Digger and the two of them could have made life hell for Jock. That would have been an interesting alternative reality storyline but Miss Ellie wanted Jock and she was likely the only woman to ever wear him out like that. 😆
He's one of those really gifted actors like Ricardo Montalban, Gary Oldman, or even Dallas's own Jim Davis, who could play a convincing heavy OR a good guy interchangeably
Barbara Bel Geddes was such a class act. And she was born to play MIss Ellie - a strong Texas woman, proud of her Texas heritage and loyal to her family. Hindsight is 2020. I wish they would’ve given her more to do in the storylines.
I remember watching an episode of Dallas next generation and john ross made some smart a comment about miss Ellie and Bobby told him don't you ever talk about my momma
Barbara Bel Geddes was an Excellent Actress. She played a really Good Role as Miss Ellie. My favorite scene with her is not on here. My favorite scene with her was in season 2 when Garrison came to visit Miss Ellie and then her and Jock argued over giving back Southfork. Also when she told off JR after he caused some trouble with Garrison’s Nurse.
I loved Barbara Bel Geddes and Donna Reed as Miss Ellie. When Bobby dies Donna Reed's Miss Ellie says NO! NO! and cries and hugs Clayton for emotional support. That was very powerful acting on Donna Reed's part. I love Donna and Barbara, both equally.
12:45 - Miss Ellie was a great character and played beautifully by Barbara Bel Geddes. A true and tough matriarch, by no means a door mat with a kind and soft heart. I have no trouble in imagining her taking a horse whip to the great Jock Ewing, her late husband and love of her life. 😂
Dan Dan In my opinion, this lady represents the balance of kindness and toughness. Both living together inside her in harmony. She knew when to be gentle and when to crack the whip. I could definitely imagine her being a starship captain or admiral. (Sorry for that last sentence; its the Trekkie in me talking). Good show with great characters.
My Favorite Episode of Miss Ellie, Wasn't showed. It was when Miss Ellie, Had decided to declare Jock as being dead. Miss Ellie was in tears, when she had to admit this in front of her family, in order for the Ewing's to be able to run Ewing Oil. My favorite line was when Miss Ellie said, She was Jock's Woman with Soo! Much Love! and Honer! You can Tell in her voice and Tears , This was the Hardest thing she Ever! Had to do.
Barbara Bel Geddes was Miss Ellie, pure and simple, I mean everything about her is beyond acting, it feels like it could be any mother in real life, but those times were so different, she had to be tough. She was amazing throughout the whole time she starred in Dallas.
I like how Miss Ellie made it clear to JR that she and Jock are not raising another grandchild when JR reply she and Jock can "help" him raise John Ross.😂
I have a very oil rich aunt in Midland who is the kindest tough as nails woman I will ever know, the family considers her Miss Ellie 2.0....we refer to her as Miss Ellie 2!! 😍😍😍 Barbara Bel Geddes was a BRILLIANT actress!!!! 🤗😇
She won the only acting Emmy on the show. Charlene Tilton talked about how Barbara had stories about New York theater that she would share. Most people think of Elizabeth Taylor when they think of Maggie from Cat On A Hot Tin Roof but Barbara originated the role on Broadway. Ive never seen a character like Eleanor Southworth Ewing Farlow. Not until this very year when I saw Cara Dutton in 1923....
Ms. Ellie was a loving wife and mother but still a force to be reckoned with. We could definitely use someone like her in congress to stand up for “we the people!”
The scene with Carter McKay! This is Barbara's second stint on the show AFTER her health scare and after Donna Reed played Ellie. Scenes like this IS WHY they brought her back. Can you even picture Donna playing that scene? Whew! Can you imagine if Hughes actually put his hands on Ms Ellie at 3:29? Bobby wouldve killed him.
He knew better than to openly disrespect her like that younger idiot did. He knew that all it would take is for Miss Ellie to mention him being disrespectful to her and his reputation would have been ruined.
Cracks me up to think about lol. Jock Ewing had grown men shaking in their shoes back in his younger days (and even toward the end of his life he was not a man to be played with) and then a little bit of a thing like Elinor Southworth takes a horsewhip to him? 🤣
No one played Miss Ellie better than Barbara Bel Geddes. Nothing against Donna Reed. She was talented in her own right, but Bel Geddes had amazing energy as Miss Ellie. RIP to Barbara and Donna.
Love you Storm!! Keep up the good work! Thank you for posting these awesome clips. Please do a "Best of Victoria Principal". I love her! Thank you for helping me walk down memory lane with this outstanding show. 💯💕
I love Miss Ellie. She has so many qualities; courage, strength of character, a strong sense of right and wrong, wisdom, judgment, a way with words and a great capacity to love. It speaks volumes that she is the only woman that can both keep JR in line and that he genuinely respects. No harm to the late Donna Reed but she just didn't have Barabara Bel Geddes' to play Miss Ellie.
Okay I've been binge-watching Dallas and I think it's time to say it it's all Miss Ellie's fault. She's the reason Jr is rotten and Evil. Jr didn't get that way on his own for him to be heartless the way he is she never taught him to be good gracious and thankful.
Only Larry Hagman was in charge of the scripts, not Barbara Bel Geddes (despite being the lead of the show)! I wish she could've supported with writers/producers on the show.
Ellie was the boss. She was usually reserved, but in fact, she was an absolute pillar. Loved her she reminded me of my mama.
Ms. Ellie was a true matriarch. She brought such a wonderful energy to Dallas. She is missed RIP
❤Remarkable
The person she was in real life was every bit as Saintly as the person she portrayed on Dallas. A wonderful human being.
Her character about family , ever body love her
she always had negative energy.
She was a hypocrite

I really miss the wonderful shows like Dallas. All we have now is trash, with terrible actors and actresses.
Power 🏠🙏🙏🙏🏠🏠🙏🙏💕💕Ms ellie
We need more shows like this again
Sadly, it’s cheaper to make tacky reality shows.
Totally. I miss so bad.🐎
@@quintoncompton4073 Dallas ruled the roost when it aired 1978 to 1991. It will never be forgotten.
Miss Ellie was one tough lady, and I admire her for it.
Bobby was always so sweet and respectful of his " mama." Ray as well.
That lady was one fine actress.
Miss Ellie reminded me of my grandmother, one lady you didn't mess with. :)
No matter what J.R.'s done, Miss Ellie sure had her sons back.
Strong, elegant, beautiful and very devoted. Great lady. RIP Miss Ellie
Never F with Miss Ellie
I love this show!!!! I miss these kind of show's, Dynasty too!!! Nothing on tv comes close to these show's.... Put them back on tv, we need them!!!! 🥀🥀🥀🥀....
Compared to Larry, Barbara was also a big asset to the show. May she & Larry both #RIP.
That is true she had the final say alot
@@ethelhoose2972 Especially after Jim Davis (Jock) passed way.
Whenever Miss Ellie called J.R. out on his shady dealings, he always folded like a card table. Haha.
He respected his mama or he was a afraid to cross her

Miss Ellie was a G! Good work on this video. But I am surprised you didn't include the scene where she threatened the reporter with a rifle. That was my favorite.
Let’s not forget when she had that dam blown up. “If it’s war he wants, then it’s war he’s gonna get!”
My thought exactly!
That was the best scene ever!!!...;)
Totally agree on that. Strongest Ewing in the house with class.💐
I will always remember waiting and watching Dallas with my mom dad sister and brother every Sunday night, then we all went out to a local motel to dance away to great music.😊 I live in the uk ❤
Always loved that woman in this role!
She was a very good in this show. Dallas was the best. I miss it.
I only ever watched the new series and they mention Miss Ellie a lot... honestly, they didn't disappoint; what a queen.
Every actor and actresses played their parts great,I still watch the show
im re vliving the 70 and 80s love it!
Thank you Miss BBG you are the queen of Dallas
In the opening scene JR looks like he's about to cry. His mother had a way of turning him into a little boy.
BINGO. Miss Ellie is the only one that can do that. To every one else he's the Devil, to her J.R. will always be her naughty little boy.
@@theprinceoftides6836jock had the same effect.
Without any doubt, Bel Geddes was head and shoulders above the rest of this cast as an accomplished actress of stage and screen for decades and it all shows in the clip. She was an actress of restraint and authority over both her character and the dialogue. Incredible consistency in every scene.
Very well said. Very measured in her words, tone and her gestures.
JR says (about Sue Ellen and Dusty at the Southern Cross Ranch) “She’s living in sin down there with that cowboy.” How funny! Like JR wasn’t living in sin from day one! 🤣🤣🤣
JR always was a hypocrite when it came to his marriage and expectations of Sue Ellen.
They don't make shows like this ..anymore 😪
Nobody messed with Miss Ellie and came out unharmed:). She was a badass!
It always tickles me to imagine her taking a horsewhip to Jock after he knocked her up and didn't want to marry her at first lol. Miss Ellie was awesome on Dallas!!!
She' s simply perfection❤
Jr couldn't walk over miss Ellie she way to smart
I loved it when Miss Ellie had to lay down the law to JR. Always great scenes!
I love George Kennedy. What a great actor he has been... I watched all his movie's!!! Rip, George....
He's one of those really gifted actors like Ricardo Montalban, Gary Oldman, or even Dallas's own Jim Davis, who could play a convincing heavy OR a good guy interchangeably
Love miss Ellie very humble , sweet , caring and a no nonsense person
Miss Ellie looked like a college girl in that sweatsuit and driving that Volkswagen convertible.
Old tomato
"Mr. McKay isn't seeing anybody."
"Get out of my way!" 😄
I wasnt sure if it was a VW? Looks like it but. Seems like that wouldnt be tough enough for the Ewings. Lol.
Miss Ellie's favorite son was always Gary. She bought the house in the cul-de-sac for he and Val.
Jock Ewing favored Bobby and Miss Ellie favored Gary no wonder JR was so ruthless
@@calvinbrown2793jock clearly favored JR. miss ellie favored her other 2 sons.

No one could have said it better. She was not acting, she was Miss Ellie body and soul. I mean the way she sounds when she speaks is so powerful.
Miss Ellie was gutsy!
Some of my favorite Dallas moments (other than JR) are some of those with Jock and Miss Ellie.
I love Ms. Ellie
I love Dallas!!!

Trying to figure out what kind of car that was! VW Cabriolet? It can’t be. Can it?
@@Mister_Listeneryep VW Golf convertible
I think she knew how to drive just didn't have to when Jock was alive
Molly Hagan brought incredible depth to Miss Ellie in The Early Years.
Soft voice iron rule that Ellie❤️
I remember watching the scene that starts at 11:54 on tv years ago. I liked seeing her tell both of her sons off, they deserved it especially JR.
She was always a favourite of mine ☺
Miss Ellie in her blue windbreaker, talkin bout peril...
Where is her Emmy for the role?
George Kennedy was a legend!!! He played Victor Newman's father on The Young and the Restless. His father was an abusive Pos. I love George Kennedy...

Barbara Bel Geddes ( Miss Ellie) 👍👍👍
Donna Reed ( Miss Ellie) 👎👎👎

Donna Reed just didn't cut it.
Same. Both R great actress. Donna Reed was a great actress but was on a hiding to nothing replacing Barbara Gel Geddes. BGG was Miss Ellie.
That was funny when she said to McKay….”you want to tell your pet dog to get out of my way?”
Fun to watch. Really interesting acting choices. Pretty too. Barbara Bel Geddes is really good in that Hitchcock movie with Jimmy Stewart.
JR to Ms Ellie: " That little HillBilly been complaining to you ? " .... LOL
Miss Ellie was not a woman you didn’t need as an enemy or piss her off
