I have just built my herb spiral (with a small pond for watercress at the base but in my research i've come across alot of people saying that root rot will occur in stagnant water. I plan to drip irrigate the herb spiral with a few emitters going into the pond to replenish what is lost due to evaporation.
That is a beautiful herb garden! I made one this spring but I put vegies in it I love it, so will also make a herb garden spiral also this coming spring time, thanks for sharing!
quiet simple materials and very Beautiful at the same time. great to see kids being involved with nature. greta way to grow herbs must smell great after a rain in the sunshine :) while sipping some mint tea :)
That's beautiful. :) My yard grows rocks really well of all sizes. I may have to build one of those in my yard. Usually I just toss the rocks over the fence as I find them. There are plenty out there I can retrieve. :) - Heidi
For my needs, I mainly keep two small planters for herbs. One is for perennials and one for annuals. One 4'x4' planter comfortably holds 9 good sized herbs, especially if one uses bottomless clay pots.
Real informative and well worth the watch, sure do appreciate your sharing it. I would like to ask, would it be a consideration, to apply seasoned wood chips as mulch and weed deterrent. We've recently made a small gardening area using wood chips from a tree cutting service, and are well pleased with how the plants are thriving in it, and there are hardly any weed, Thank You. Mrs. Tc

Great for small herbs - thyme, marjoram, chive, etc but if you live in areas with a long growing season the size of basil, fennel, dill cilantro, rosemary, etc are just too big for this design. Great feature with the pool nearby

Well I usually have a group of highly trained ninja turtles. But jokes aside. We don't have that problem. In some countries it is not good to have water near your area where you live. But then maybe there are herbs you could place in the pond that will discourage them. David.
The little critters who lived here before our arrival (opossums, raccoons, etc.) gobbled the little fish up as soon as we put them in! My husband put a screen over the top and VIOLA we still have fish! We don't mind sharing with our furry neighbors, but they were becoming a tad to greedy! LOL.
You just allow the rain to do it :) This was filmed 4 month ago because of the time it takes me to do the editing. I only got it uploaded now. But in that time the spiral has worked great. The water has not been stagnated. Cheers David.
Of the top of my head it was Echinacea, basil, chamomile, dill, cilantro, mint, water cress, lemon balm, thyme, rosemary, sage, rue, and oregano. Mediterranean small herbs to the top, middle and front, so south facing for full sun. These would be chamomile, thyme, basil, oregano, rue, Echinacea. Then I would place the dill the cilantro, rosemary, sage, towards the back as these grow quite tall. At the lowest and nearest to the water would be rue, lemon balm. Then in the water would be mint and water cress.
10 years and not another video has topped this herb garden demo .

Hey that's great. They are a lot of fun to build. I would start with half a ton for now. But I do not know the exsact amount.

It could if you live in a place with lots of them. Then I would exclude the pond in the making of the spiral.
put a small solar fountain pump. it will aerate the water and discourage mosquitoes who do not like moving water
