    I lived in Chicago in the late 60's 1967 to be exact thank you for the new tour of one ofm the largest cities in the USA , gotta love that 5 pm traffic in Chicago .

    Thanks for posting. I like watching this video of being in the country then you end up in a huge city with tall buildings. I also like seeing the mass transit in the center of the freeway. I don't think I could drive in that mess anymore.

    Chicago reminds me a lot of Toronto. i've been to Chicago 4 times. Living in the Niagara Region i use to drive Toronto every day. i practically lived there seeing the entire city. It was like my second home away from home.

    You do not disappoint FreewayJim, the big city sky scraper scenery seen on (90 & 94 west interstate) was beautiful, and I also caught the train in the station at 3:37, that was cool. (GVJ)!!!

    @fldoughboy72: I think Jim had a valid reason for stopping that practice, as he already noted down below. The only realistic way to include all the exits is to make separate signs or do what I do, which is to have different colored annotations. It's definitely a bit of a hassle.

    i love the graceful curves and feel of I-57 through here as much as i like the craziness of the dan ryan! i've driven the dan ryan many many times in my 49 years, and i still love it! except for that part before the loop where it is almost certain to be a parking lot, no matter the time of day. thanks for this great video!

    I hope for more divided express-local freeways in the future. This freeway along with the skyway is awesome!

  • @arthurbhutic3777

    Exits after intersections and entrances before intersections. Intersecting railroad tracks must get elevated, which the expressway must go to grade level. Where it's more lanes, must get an underground express, which the express must always stay underground. In the dense area, the road must become automated for vehicles are driven by computer and joystick, and also be automated, that vehicles can float on magnets. On the frontage rds, must be bicycle lns. on the outsides.

  • @Freewayjim

    @aijunk2 There are some other interstates that run one way while signed another, it doesn't confuse me although I can see where you would say that.

  • @Freewayjim

    @8RAPS The longest interstate is I-90: Boston to Seattle (including the Dan Ryan)

  • @Freewayjim
    @Freewayjim  13 років тому +2

    @fldoughboy72 I do make note of major interchanges as they are important but street exits, not so much. I also figured where possible that the AUTHENTIC signs would be better than anything I typed in a colored band :)

  • @aijunk2
    @aijunk2 13 років тому +2

    I remember driving through Chicago a while back and let me tell you. It was a pain in the ASS when I found out this thing runs North-south, when its composed as West-East. Didn't you get confused?

  • @101southsideboy

    @dvdskck I 57 is the one of 2 expressway ( or toll road) in the Chicago area other than i 80 west of i 294 that does not have a official name associated with it . although maps do it shows it named as "Dan Ryan west leg " no one in Chicago ever calls it that.

  • @arthurbhutic3777
    @arthurbhutic3777 11 років тому +3

    By schools, golf courses, and malls, must be pedestrian tunnels. Pedestrian bridges, must be replaced by pedestrian tunnels. On the outsides of the expressway and future underground express, must be a lane on the outsides for gas and electric bikes and gas and electric scooters, separated by a barrier.

      Freewayjim I also heard that they're re-doing Mile 51 exits in Interstate 94 IL. Visit circleinterchange.org for the map.
      I personally think that the construction isn't worth anything at all except for 1 more lane.

  • @Freewayjim
    @Freewayjim  13 років тому +2

    @fldoughboy72 I purposely stopped doing that, it junked up the video and took away from the overall experience IMO, there are plenty of exit lists on the internet for that information. It was especially difficult to do on urban freeways like this where exits are frequent, sometimes there would not be enough time (at least 4 seconds) to leave each exit up. Trust me, it's for the better.

    The Dan Ryan is one badass mofo! It is hands down the best freeway in Chicago. I remember riding along that stretch in 2003, and the reconstruction doesn't look too entirely different than how it was before. Maybe just a tad wider? Interesting fact about where REO originated; I didn't know that. Awesome video, my man!

    Complete frontage rds, must be constructed. Where the expressway is 6 lns, frontage rds must be 6 lns. Where the freeway is 8 lns and beyond, frontage rds must just be 8 lns. Intersections overpassing the expressway, must go to grade level, and the expressway overpasses the intersections. Sections that are elevated or below grade level, must be brought to grade level. Intersections here, must go to below grade level, as well as frontage rds here at this intersections.

  • @Freewayjim

    @CosmoPhotography Thank you! I agree, I think it's the best freeway, er expressway in Chicago. I think the reconstruction added a lane to I-94 east of where I-90 comes in but nearly a $Billion seems like a lot for what was done, no new or notable structures. It's nice but not too much different from what I saw my only time there before in 2005.
