    Which trends do you want gone?

    • @angelbulldog4934
      @angelbulldog4934 Рік тому +3

      💥Black and gray
      💥Houses that are designed so that the garage is the first thing you see. My humble opinion is in the garage needs to be in the back.
      💥 Floor plans that open into the dining room or kitchen
      💥 Granite and stainless steel
      💥 Staircase that's right at the front door
      💥 Black woodwork/trim
      💥 Owners who have no gratitude for what they have and demand bathroom to themselves. Who do people like this do when they go out in public? Precious princesses are boring and tedious
      Those are just the first things that come to mind. There are many others.
      Don't ask if you don't want to know... but thanks for asking 😊

      All those black and white signs with overly done phases written in cursive. Like … Blessed… Live Love Laugh…. Gather… 🤦🏼‍♀️

      Black walls and trim. Gray must go.

    I am so ready for the modern farmhouse style to go away! And I am so sick of everything being painted gray!

      I lived in a real Farmhouse when I was growing up. It looked nothing like what we are told now is modern farmhouse. I'm not even sure I know what that means.

      Gray is gone…. I hope! Why is ‘color, any color’ bad?

      I agree with the gray. It is cold and never feels like a cozy home. I would walk out of a gray house.

    I mostly agree with everything from this post. I would add the impractibility of open shelving and free standing bathtubs. Trends are just that... and they come and go. Find your personal style is great advice.

      I've hated open shelving since it first appeared. I've never been that neat, minimalist, or organized--I need a place to close off and hide stuff.

    Gray walls, white on white on white, shiplap, farmhouse sinks and barn doors will never be found in my house. So glad at least 2 of these "trends" are on the way OUT!

  • @cariwaldick4898

    My biggest hate in any design, is aesthetics over function. Replacing appliances to make them match, or ripping out "dated" fixtures that still work well. I've seen too many designers take sledge hammers to kitchen cabinets and counters. Take it apart and donate it! They get rid of bathtubs in homes with little kids--fail. And those built in banquettes? Who wants to sit, scooch, scooch, scooch, scooch, every time they eat? And distressed finishes--ugh! Removing storage in favor of open concept. And the grandaddy of them all--microwaves over the stove! It's dangerous.

      You are the first person I've heard saying what my hubby has always said. Think about this image: you are reaching up and trying to balance a pipping hot, sauce-based casserole to get it down from over your head. Ugh!

      @@karenryder6317 I'm only 5'2" so it's a real issue for me. It's an issue for young cooks who can't reach as well. Drop that hot dish, and it crashes onto the stove below. It also leaves you potentially reaching over hot/boiling food on the stove. It's a failed design. They did this to my kitchen, and I HATE it. My microwave is dirty all the time, because I'm too short to clean it without a stepladder. After a bad fall, I try to stay off of ladders unless there's a good reason.

    Shiplap, wood on the walls, and open floor plans are my hate targets. Shiplap was how poor homes were done back 100 years ago, not something to be desired. "Country" everything is overdone. Especially if you are like the majority of Americans who live in the suburbs or an urban area where "Country" design is out of place.

    • @karenryder6317
      @karenryder6317 Рік тому

      I've NEVER liked a completely open plan anymore than I do the other extreme where each room is compartmentalized. There actually is a goldilocks in-between solution--"cased openings". They allow for more wall décor and wood trim, plus you also have the versatility to make them as wide or as narrow as your particular needs for each space dictates.

    Honestly, trends are for sheep. Why do we as a society feel the desperate need to please others by catering OUR styles to THEIR tastes? If you like gray, go gray! If you like brick, go with it! People would be much happier if they were just themselves instead of constantly transforming themselves, their homes, their hair, their clothes and their tastes to fit in with what others have decided SHOULD be in style. To each his own. These people that have appointed themselves the great deciders for everyone are profiting off the insecurities of those who are desperate to fit in or stand out, as it were, by following trends set by others.

      I'm old enough to have seen wood cabinets come and go in popularity a few times in the trends. I still remember in one episode of an early HGTV show "Designed to Sell" where the buyers said "oh no, a white kitchen". Now days I hear "oh no, it's not a white kitchen!" This is more than just pandering to other's tastes, however. Something new and different from what you have had always has great appeal. Our eye tends to see the status quo as being dated. As I said I remember when everyone longed to have the Tuscan look. In my parent's day everyone wanted colonial. It's just that "the new" seems so cutting edge at the time and then before too long what once seemed so fresh is seen everywhere and becomes cliched.

    • @theraweggfiles
      @theraweggfiles Рік тому

      @@karenryder6317 Yeah, I get that, but when someone likes something, they shouldn't shy away from it because of the fear of looking dated.

      Just know if I walk into your house to buy it and there is wallpaper on every single wall in your house. My brain is going how much will it cost me to bring someone in and get that shit off the walls. If you are planning on staying a long time, then do you. If you want me to buy the place you don't want me to low ball you because I will have to do too much to make it mine, then you better have it back to neutrals. I can paint over a neutral wall, I can't paint over ugly ass wallpaper, and all wallpaper is ugly ass! I would love to own a home in a neighborhood where I can paint it a cool color, but before I go to sell it, I will repaint it back to a neutral color. You do whatever you want if you plan to stay for ever...

      In December of 1988, upended everything in my newly purchased house a soft Dove Gray. By spring of '89, I was sick to death of it. I'm sticking to warm neutrals myself. The rest of the world can do whatever they need. I'm not a trend follower.
      Actually, if you have the faith and the courage to step out and do something different from everybody else, you could end up being a trendsetter.

    I don't care if it's out of fashion, I will stick with the stainless steel appliance. They work with everything.
    I hated farmhouse/rustic when it was "fresh," and especially "barn door" sliding doors/cupboard doors that never really close properly. Give me hinges or pocket doors.
    Oh, and wood countertops in the kitchen or bathroom. Such an unfortunate decision around water and food prep.

    This vid is a little all over the place. Are these trends that are dying with existing homeowners or with realtors and home BUYERS? For example, a personalized aesthetic is great for a homeowner, but terrible for a home seller or realtor.
    Yes, shiplap is out, and no, we didn't ALL love it to begin with. As with any overused trend, it got tired quick.
    Stainless steel is not out. If anything, it has become the default look for appliances. Those with money to spend are adding cabinet fronts to their appliances, but stainless is going nowhere.
    Open floor plans aren't going anywhere, either. I work with builders are realtors and they are still how most homes are being configured. Where do you guys get your info?

  • @finned958

    On one hand you could be right about the “old” trends going away, but you added a few more with expiration dates. The personal look is absolutely ridiculous. It only looks good to the one person in the house who wanted it. No one else will like it. That’s how you got shiplap planks in the first place. Besides, if you’re going to sell the house, neutral paint is the best. No wallpaper please. Stainless steel isn’t going away, but to be precise, stainless steel refrigerators continues to be timeless.
