I stumbled on this mechanical pencil years ago. I’m a construction estimator and I have one at my desk, one in my truck and one at home. My favorite pencil ever.
The fact u said ur a construction estimator means absolutely nothing bro. Shut up and get a regular pencil. U probably don't know shit about construction if u use a pencil like this. Soap stone, marker, and regular pen and pencil...u don't need this for construction. Nobody uses this 😂😂😂
Not this where the inside ist rotating, but mechanical pensels in general yes. At least from i can deduct, because my now about 63 old mother has still her mechanical pensel from her schooldays.
I have the original of this pencil. It is honestly fantastic, worth the 10 bucks. The lead has lasted me years and it doesnt smudge as much as others(im a lefty). Clarification edit: the pencil came with a container of pencil lead, which has like 40 pieces in it, which I have not gone through yet. I did not mean that one small bit of lead has lasted that long
@@lllULTIMATEMASTERlllnot really if he's not an artist you can get years out of a pencil even writing many essays, I've finished so many pens but pencils just keep going
@@shelby6 No. Not from the lead for a mechanical pencil. Absolutely not. I’m a graduate student and I go through 3 or 4 sticks of lead in a week or so. A single pencil? Yeah. I’ve had many that have lasted for years. But lead? No.
From a design perspective, I do actually have a massive soft spot for being able to watch the barrel rotate, so I don't actually like the metal grip all that much, but I'm curious to see how different this version is in line quality.
I’ve had the kurotoga for years. I had one and it was the only pencil I’d use throughout middle school and highschool until I got a few new ones. Looks like I have some more to add to my collection.
In Drafting class in Highschool, my teacher always demanded we draw perfect lines. 20 years later and still any time I draw a straight line I spin my pencil now without even thinking about it.
I love mine for drawing because if you hold it down for a long time at an angle, it stops the turning and gives a cool gradually increasing line effect I like to use for shading
It's cool , thanks , and I had no idea these even existed (Despite owning uni products) until now , but I like thicker lines . That's what's good about using normal pencils for me , especially to draw with . I don't think this would be for me unless I need small details , honestly might actually try it though since I saw another commenter say they're pretty cheap
ive used exclusively kuru toga pencils over the past year of college, namely the roulette and advance upgrades. the roulette definitely has a style advantage, but the advance upgrade's sliding pipe tube and 2x rotation make it much more valuable for me. i write a lot of cursive, and i found the roulette just doesnt rotate enough for ny writing style. best pencil ive ever used
These are great and all, but you need to try the kuru toga ascent. The lead is infused with human hair and the mechanism spins so fast you age 1.4x faster while using it.
Ahh i feel nostalgia on this pencil... When i was in the junior high school, almost literally everyone had at least one kurutoga in their pencil case. Meanwhile, i had four~six of them😂
i really wish there was a pencil that combined the kuru toga and the zebra delguard. i firmly believe it would be the best pencil ever created if it worked out
can personally attest to these things. i got one in my first year then from then on refused to use a single other pencil for all of uni. theyre that good its not close.
Even better one, Uni alpha-gel switch mechanical pencil - Kutoga with alpha gel rubber grip added. This one is the ultimate. This has fine alpha gel rubber and you can swith normal mechanical pencil mode and kurutoga mode. I prefer this and I use this (I also have those pencils but I adore this more)
I’ve honestly never had great luck with these, I still ended up needing to manually rotate the pencil, so I just bought a rotring 800 and have used it for around 4 years
Tokyo Pen Shop sells Kuru Toga pencils and they are just as amazing to write with as you are imagining. Especially good for fine work such as mathematics.
I have one of these that is Kiki's Delivery Service themed and its probably my favorite pencil of all time. I will say though the thinner lead ones are definitely something you have to get used to! The leads snap very easily.
I expected it to be a really expensive type of pencil but after reading the comments and seeing how cheap they actually are I bought a couple^^ hoping they do well as I will be using them for mostly school and sketchbook
I’ve been an artist for years and I have MEVER been without my Kuru Toga upgrade. I have like 8 of them, including the studio Ghibli ones. They’re incredible, any and all of the Kuru Toga models. I know everyone likes the GraphGear and they’re good, but the Kuru Toga blows them out of the water tbh.
Damn. 2008? No wonder why I was seeing a bunch of my friends using them back in 3rd and 4th grade in Japan. (2009 and 2010). Back then, it was around 3 -5 dollars more or less? And now they have the advance? I'm buying one again😂😂😂
This pencil is great for writing in specific styles, but cursive definitely isn’t one since you don’t lift and place it enough for it to rotate much at all.
"Introducing our revolutionary new writing instrument: now with 100% more clicking, for when you need to look busy but haven't actually changed anything - just like our pencil!" - Kuru Toga
Not sure how I feel about the over all shape. Guess I'll find out when it comes on Sunday 😅. Been using the old version for years, so I'll give it a shot.
Hot take, I bought the regular Kuru Toga and the Metal Advance to compare. For both note taking and sketching I do think they're great! great consistency. However the minuscule press in that the lead/ tip does to start the rotation process for me is actually noticeable and I can feel it, its slightly distracting and can break my concentration if I end up focusing on it instead of my work. I'm used to just a solid press to paper. I want to Like it so badly but maybe I just need more time to get used to it.
They were pretty shit back when I was in school, broke a lot (plus the kids would just push all the lead out immediately) but they seem pretty nice now
As someone who's been drafting since 1976 in Jr. High shop class, through university architecture and planning degrees, been practicing since 1991: If you take the clip off the Pentel P205,7,9 and..., roll the pencil with your fingers, it self sharpens the lead. JFC.
What?!! I have this exact one! I literally have the advanced one and got no idea it spins! I was just looking up a mechanical pencil and this one looks literally the same, it’s a blue one with the same rubber band and stuff
Its flawed though, I used to have this mechanical pencil a long time ago and you have to write with the pencil straight up, I personally find it more comfortable to write holding the pencil at an angle

Amazing for doing maths too!!!

I’m a backflow tester and I use this pencil with write in the rain paper daily. Good stuff
How much pressure does it take to turn it? I don’t really press down very hard when I sketch, at least not consistently
@@gokiburi-chan4255yea math isn't possible with a normal pencil ^^

get out.
hahaha love this
And people aleady make pencil jokes
Damn it
Bravo 👍
Japanese stationery really is next level. That and their chalk have completely changed my learning experience
They had to use a human soul in each one, thats why they write so good
Its worth it.
Now I can open a fortune telling business

😮
People are losing their minds over a pencil...
This is actually super durable ,I bought the original version around 2010,and it’s still working properly today

Oh I was worried about the smudging (also a lefty)
Lead for years? Did you even use it?
What do you mean the lead lasted you years? That’s impossible unless you used it like 3 times.

I got one of these as a gift in school, still have it. Great pencil. Love it for drafting, art and writing.
Hey! My order showed up today; I'm impressed that it traveled as far as it did so quickly. Everything was present and fit the descriptions exactly!
I don't really need this but damn, that's a beautiful pencil. I want to feel it write!

Great review! 💯
Ok but the “kuru toga advance upgrade extra +” is made of depleted uranium and the motor is so fast it generates a kugelblitz
Abaolutely love my Kuru Toga Advance. With a 2B lead, it pretty much replaced my pen for most notetaking and brainstorming tasks.
I didn’t know this was a thing but now I’m totally in love with it!!!
Japanese always improve on things you thought there's no more room for improvement. I gonna go buy me one after watching this video.
Thats sweet. I remember using a rotating mechanical for a long time until I switched to a low COG. Nice to know both exist.
I got one of these back in 2010 and it was my favorite pencil I’ve ever had
I like the flat spot because it makes the like thicker and easier to read.
Ahh i feel nostalgia on this pencil...
When i was in the junior high school, almost literally everyone had at least one kurutoga in their pencil case. Meanwhile, i had four~six of them😂
As an engineer I love good drafting pencils, and the kuru toga is my favorite. Wish I could find one in 0.7
I got one when I went on a student exchange in Japan. The mechanism was the only reason I bought it. It is awesome pencil.
These are amazing and I’ll never go back to using a normal mechanical pencil
Way better than a standard pencil, but the thickness of it is something that takes getting used to
PURCHASED. I had no idea this existed... 🔥🔥🔥
Where’s the eraser?
Under a little cap on the end, it’s there.

I must have for Maths. I’ve begun using the Kakuno Pilot fountain pen. This will complete me, on the other end of writing utensils.

Uniball have been goated since the 207. All time favorite pencil maker.
I used one of these for most of high school and beyond. I should see if I can find it.
And yes I mean ONE of these, never lost it.

It will blow your mind 😊
Me watching something that look like I can do with a normal pencil. Must be for pencil geeks.
Bro I'm so bad at keeping track of pencils but this is awesome
It's a fantastic piece of kit, I just really wish it came in 0.7!
Does the metal one not? I've been using a standard Kuru Toga for 7 years that takes 0.7
@pickyyeeter oh shoot for real?? I got a metal one in 0.5 thinking it was the only size you could get! I may buy another now lol.

the og kuru toga is my favorite pencil ive ever used
Great pencil, good writing instrument 😊
Although it's not a mechanical pencil, as a Japanese person I also recommend Jetstream, which I think is the best pen in the world as far as I know.
I always used to take mechanical pencils apart and create spring launchers.
Tbh. I love these pencils. I know it's an advertisement. But damn these things are well made.
"this one has a lower center of gravity"
I didn't think you needed all of that in a pin
I’m still using the one I bought when it came out, you’ll have to really sell me on it. Works fine still.
i have like 4, each with their own design. They're great
the kurutoga gunmetal elite is this but made of pure aluminum metal; and way slimmer too. doesn’t rotate as fast though.
This pencil helped me with shading

I always liked the mechanical pencils, and i guess these are 10 bucks in the states. Very nice
I swear, Uni makes the best mechanical pencil. I have the clifter mech. pencil and it has been more than 5 year since I first got it.
dude his katakana handwriting is beautiful af
I found one of these pencils on the ground and had no idea why it felt so nice to use until i watched this video… that explains a lot
I prefer the kura toga roulette. Full metal body with the v2 system so it is faster
