I am no structural engineer, but i am a welder.. If you used full penetration welds [as you would do] then you would not need any additional plates, just weld the ends together. Problem would be, the resulting distortion, the beam would be anything but straight..
Hi sir, thanks for your guidance. Can you please add the real time picture that's help to understand where you are and what your are doing. Thank you so much sir
I've seen spliced beams in loft conversion videos and no flange plates used as specified by structural engineer. I want to have a beam like this so as to minimise loft space height. Is this possible?
Appreciate the hard work Dear Structural Engineer Calc. Can we also make a video regarding the design of base plate for steel columns. It would be great to start with the base for steel works. Thank You ! Keep sharing your knowledge with us.
@@StructuralEngineerCalcs I would prefer the basis design for anchor bolts it's so confusing to design however base plate can be designed with fixed set of formulas in every codes. Thank you.
As someone brought up with BS449 I greatly enjoy these videos working to currant standards, However, detailing a 35 mm thick flange plate for a 18.8 mm thick flange, raises concern.
Hello great work you doing here... Can you please upload a video on how to design a Gable or portal frame Warehouse or workshops for the mining and oil and gas sector
better than 4 years of uni courses. Can learn more through this channel, please keep uploading design example videos !!
You doing great work with simple manner
Thank you for the video
I really enjoy your videos thank you so much
Love this vid, very clear. Thanks

I'd love to see an example of a goal-post system and its pad base design.. Thanks for the awesome videos...really enjoying them
Uploaded!
Very well explained. Thank you
Great video. Thanks
Quick question how did you get the design load
Can advice where the "bolt load capacity" refer from?
Thanks for the videos, keep it up 👍🏼
Great Explanation..in a simple way. Thanks a lot... for sharing knowledge...
Can you make a tutorial for Beam welded splice butt joints? please.
Great example. Can you do one with welding please?

In 4mm fillet weld strength, what's the value 0.38 you have considered?
Thank you
Awesome Video. Can you please do a video on the design of fabricated box girder with stiffeners.

Are these bolts all snug tight?
Thank you for the video. Can you share a video design splice for rectangularhollow section beam. Appreciate it very much.

Can you do an end plate/butt joint splice beam?

Great work, can you possibly do a video on a portal frame design 😀
Thank you, it's on its way!
Kindly upload a video on Fully restrained moment and partially restrained moment connections.
Added to the list. Stay tuned!

Please could you do a timber beam example

Thank you, we will get right on it, stay tuned!
why flange area = Flange force/fy?
stress = force / Area ,rearrange it so Area = force / stress
Do we really need all these numbers.
Won’t it be obvious if the bolts and plates are too big or too small.
Err, no..
The only thing missing in this example is the calculation for the length of the flange plate required
can i send you some drawing to look over ?
Yes of course no problem.
@@StructuralEngineerCalcs I am looking to build a gym using angle iron 50x50 with 1/2" round bar as diagonals
