Hey Jack, loving these videos! I'm 26 years old growing my first beard ever, i've been clean shaven for practically my whole life. I'm almost 2.5 weeks in and have gotten nothing but compliments even throughout the awkward stage. I'm excited for it to get even fuller with time and ill be watching your videos as your a couple weeks ahead of me for some good upkeep tips. Namaste Jack
I like seeing these weekly updates. Although we differ a little bit on approach as I am in the team of not shaving neck as quickly, it just goes to show that there are a Multitude of different approaches. Keep on growing!
We definitely wanted to try something a little different with this series. It’s really nice to see all the positive feedback we’ve gotten from it. I chose to trim up the neckline after 30 days because I knew my beard was just going to get less shapely and more unruly. Plus, I wanted to show the viewers how to define their lines relatively early in the series. Glad you enjoyed it! - Jack
your genetics for facial hair is perfect, in my opinion. Your cheeck hair grows so fucking high, and all the way down to the neck so that you could practically rock any style beard that ever existed
Remember, there is absolutely no advice that anyone watching this could give about grooming that wouldn't get criticized by some of the other guys. Thanks for the tips here, they helped me bro 🍻
You are solid in front of a camera. Very little editing, which means you're very confident in front of a camera. Most pro dude on this channel, and everyone's great on this channel.
You're a cool cat jack. Your beard grows quick. Thanks for the vid. 😉 Appreciate you taking time to respond to the comments. I am so glad Eric opened this buisness. So many guys want to grow beards but either go about it the wrong way or give up too soon. This channel has helped me to grow an awesome beard the right way with confidence. Its been 20 yrs since i have had a beard and it feels great to have one again!!
Thanks man, I really appreciate the support! Your story reminds me a lot of myself. I was actually a fan of the channel for a very long time before I joined on. - Jack
Thank you for your positivity and kind words. It definitely helps motivate us to do more and reach out to more guys. We're not going to settle or slow down. Lots left to do!
The hair on one side of my cheek and jaw grows upward while the other side grows downward but have been using beard oil and the hair on that side has already started to soften and grow downward like the other side. Never used beard oil in the past but lemme tell you it definitely works wonders it has actually given me piece of mind knowing the hair has already started training to grow the correct direction. Maybe I can resist shaving it off now. Beard oil beard oil beard oil...What it's all about.
Anyone else feel like that first month of growing out your beard is the hardest? It took me years to finally just say fuck it and let it grow past a month, after about 5 weeks it looks so much better.
This video helped me answer my question I struggled to find on the internet. Where to trim the beard line (5:05). I'm 32 and finally decided to grow a beard.
Looks great at a month Jack. You sure can grow quickly. Takes me nearly 2 months to get to where you are at now. I️ like that dip in the cheekline. Makes it look original! This is going to be great to watch the series. I’m more interested once you get about 6 months in to see how you deal with keeping it tidy as it gets longer!
Thanks Steve! We all grow at different speeds so don't worry too much about what 2 months looks like versus one month. I'm really interested to see what my beard looks like at 6 months too, it's gonna get BIG! - Jack
The cheek line is more easy to do but the neck line is something i was always scared to do. Thanks man , this video made it much much easier : 2 fingers and then make a semi circle curved shape. :)
I have a 2" round bald spot right under my chin its so annoying. I kind of brush the surrounding hair towards to to cover up. First time growing a beard and my dad never grew one so it's kinda new territory
Your beard is looking good man!...mine is similar to yours where it dips at the cheeks. I'm almost 2 months in...although I'm not going for the yeard ...I plan to grow it a bit longer and then get a nice trim and shape as I have to keep it a certain length for work...keep on growing!
Following this yeard closely. I started mine September 16th & I'm doing progress videos as well. It's coming in WAY faster this go round for some reason.
haha, I tried to trim in those dips on both sides of my beard years ago, using the nose trimmer attachment on those very cheap trimmers, it was only the width of 2 trimmer blades, it didn't workout to well, because hair wasn't growing high enough on my cheeks to have definition? (is that the right word) haha, but it didn't look right, but, as for what it was, it did work pretty good, so for someone that does have hair growing high on their cheek, and wanted to create those dips, using a nose trimmer attachment works really well
Thanks man. For fun I stopped shaving and it's been about 5 weeks and dang, the neck beard is looking pretty bad. So come on UA-cam to see if people shave their neck hair. Good vid.
Looking good Jack. I can already tell you are gonna have one hell of a an amazing beard. Thanks for this series. Happy Thanksgiving to you and the rest of the team. Peace and Love
Thanks for the tips, sadly I always have a bald spot under my chin were no hair grows which is really annoying and doesn’t look right. At least you can’t really see it that often lol
Looks much better, this inspired me to just trim instead of taking it all off. I have a normal 5 blade razor and it's taken off back of the neck hair longer than this just fine, it just takes two passes. I will do that now as well.
Very nice Jack! We have very similar beards, strong cheek coverage with a "dip" right outside the mustache and a lighter mustache growth. I always find the cheek line the hardest because I swear it grows up to my eye haha. I always screw up the trim at the one month mark for that reason. I've never thought to leave the cheek line higher up like you did! Next time I'm feeling like attempting a beard I'm going to give that a try. Cheers
All these guys saying to get a beard like that would take them longer than a month. My husband gets that inside one to two weeks. My sons though....yeah, nah. lol. This was a GREAT vid and very helpful. Thank you! Have subscribed. My son loved it and is off to shave for his internment interview this afternoon. Thanks for your help!
Glad to hear you dig the series, man! The next few months are going to be where things get pretty thick (at least they typically do from past experience) - Jack
Yes sir! I’m at week 6 of the journey. I always end at week 8. Because I don’t know how to make everything look cleaned up while continue to grow so then I end up hacking it off. Will definitely continue to look at your videos for advice. Thanks!
So I'd really appreciate an answer for this. I found this playlist at my week 4 mark and I have been trying to find this answer from beard brand but haven't. I know to exfoliate my entire face including my beard, but do I use face wash on my entire face too? I have naturally oily skin so use my face wash twice per day so I've been washing the beard area with it one of the times per day. I have gotten a couple pimples in the hair which is frustrating because I don't break out often. I just don't know if I need to wash it with face wash both times per day or never or what. Help is appreciated! Thank you for the videos. I committed to 3 months to see how I like it
What's really awesome is when you're 43, and the dark brown/black holdouts, weird reddish holdouts, and the new white hairs are all sort of conjoining into a gigantic freakshow of of a beard. Love those white ones that stick straight up!
Followed your advice Jack, me being a novice, with just starting to grow my beard. Was comprehensive about trimming my neck line and cheek area. Followed your advice and it came out perfect for me. Thank you for your videos, I cant wait to see how my beard looks in a year.
Great video Jack. Hope all the "newcomers" will able to follow along on their new beard growing journey along with you. Imagine a world without UA-cam back in my day when trying to develop a magnificent beard as I have now. Also bad barbers back then with bad trimmings. Most of all bad beard trimmers! I still kept my first one. Lol. Nowadays some excellent barbers actually know what they're doing (well not all of them :)
For sure! I certainly wouldn't know as many beard tips as I do now if it weren't for UA-cam. Actually without Beardbrand, I'd still be pretty lost with what to do with my beard. I've been a big fan of the channel before I joined the team. - Jack
Damn I made that shving neck up too high mistake. Im currently 2 weeks in, I have similar growth like you. Now I have to grow that neck hair again to rescue the line
What if you keep your beard short? Not stubble by any means, but not long enough to comb and style (about where you are now in your growth). While I don't trim my neck line all the way up to my chin, I certainly feel it shapes my jawline better by going higher than you have.
In that case, it'd be good to get a nice trim every so often (depending on how fast the hair grows in). I'd recommend having a professional do it the first time and having them explain how the blend the different parts of your beard to keep things even. That's because each part of our beards grow in at different speeds and densities, so if you were to just say trim the whole thing with a Grade 2, you may end up with an awkward looking beard. - jack
If I messed up on my neck line and shaped it up to high do I have to trim my beard down and start over? Or can I just let it grow back and just make sure to not take it up to high the next time? Please help how do I go about this? I don't want to have a complicated and dysfunctional beard.
Really helpful 👍🏽 I went to high on the neckline on recent shave. Made stupid mistake of trying to fix it. Now thinking of shaving the lot off and starting again. Ugh. It’s not right up to the jawline. Probably one finger depth down onto neck/side. Doesn’t look awful. But not what I want/had.
I used to keep my beard at about a grade 2 to 3 depending on the time of year. But for the sake of this series, I'm gonna let it do its thing and get quite long. - Jack
I'm 23 and my beard doesn't even compare to yours. However, my dads beard is VERY dense with great coverage. My moms side can grow more than me too. Not sure how I didn't get a great beard lol.
Hey need some advice! I have about 5 weeks of beard growth which is going pretty ok other than that I shaved passed the recommended neck line in this video! Not right up to the jawline but about a finger length too much Should I shave my beard and start again? Or continue? Thanks!
whats the best way to keep the growth uniform? i find im getting alot of wayward hairs just sticking out randomly that i cant tame, as well as it growing faster closer to my neck than on my cheeks and jawline
Great Channel. Thank you! One question though... A lot of the beard grooming Channel say to not touch the beard for 90 days. What are your thoughts on that?
I lean towards 30 days, but even then, I like to clean up my neck line and cheek lines during that time. I'm a bigger fan of a groomed beard rather than the full wild look. - Jack
This is very helpful for me. i have exactly the same beard after a month , and because of your others video i know what it could be if i wait a little longer. Your tips really help me. Ty
Your beard look so different just from trimming the bottom. We have been growing the beard the same time and it grows similar to yours. I will be following your steps.
It's amazing what a difference just trimming the neckline can make. That's awesome to hear that you started your beard right around the time I did. We're in this together! - Jack
Jack! I barely started growing my beard and right under my chin it doesn’t grow too much and like you said I do trim it up there and don’t want a face beard lol will the chin hairs grow longer and cover under there?
Is shaving the neckline at 30 days recommended or earlier? When do most trim the neckline? I've had a few no-shave stints of 6 weeks and each time I was ready to shave because my neck looked messy and the itch was bothering me some (I didn't use beard oils or anything).
My personal recommendation (and how I was taught) is 30 days. That way you can truly see how much and where the hair will grow. BUT, if you already know where your strengths and weaknesses, you can actually shave in the neckline a little earlier. - Jack
Beardbrand Thanks! I have another related question. I shave my head about once or twice a week with barber clippers. I shave my sideburns if it was from my scalp growth, but try to avoid beard sideburns. Seems to be a gray area. My beard sideburns only go to the very bottom of my ear lobe. Should they be higher?
i think the hardest part about the neckline is to get it symmetrical on both sides. More than once have i found myself fucking up one side because i wanted to get it in line with the other one. Had to regrow it. You actually have a littel bald spot above the adams apple, right where you've started with the razor, so thats a nice point of reference there. I wish my growth was as dense as yours, but I'm currently on minox and it actually works! Really curious on how your mustache will grow in this year!
Symmetry is always a super tough thing to keep in line with a beard. I find that this is a very good reason as to why many men only let their barber/stylist give them a trim or shaping. My face is already pretty asymmetrical (you can really see that in the difference between my eyebrows) so luckily it's the end of the world if one side of my beard is a little wider than the other. But, I really hope that the Minox works for you and that your beard continues to come in great! Keep on growing! - Jack
Every neckline is different, because some of us have cowlicks under the chin/on the neck. Just keep the neckline at least low enough to conceal the double chin
hey beardbrand, would you do this kind of format with mens hair? something like transitioning from middle long hairstyles to long hair on men? Cheers. :)
I've done a few videos in the past about growing the hair out. Here's a quick search result of some of those videos: ua-cam.com/users/results?search_query=beardbrand+grow+hair
Hey hey quick question. So I've done no-shave November for the last month but on a bad diet and basically no gym. As a result my facial hair is a lot thinner than it has to be starting up for a beard. As December approaches should I restart and shave with lifestyle changes, or just try to fix the thinness with lifestyle changes (more gym, better diet, cold showers etc). Like is my thin hair in the way of incoming thicker hair or with fixes will more hair fill in the thinness?
Great tips, I’ve been growing mine for a bout a month and a half and I was curious if you or anyone ever trims the length a little to let the slower growing hairs come in? Thanks
Been watching your weekly videos from the first one and this series makes me want to grow out my beard again. Longest I have kept growing was 5 months, and it didn't look that bad. The issue was I didn't take good care of it because I had no experience at all. So looking forward to your next videos about maintaining the beard and learning from you.
This video got me started watching your journey, which convinced me to shave my lopsided beard, trimmed too high and start fresh today. I'm going to document mine with pictures on Facebook. Maybe I'll post a video at some point.
This man has grown more in a month than I’ve grown in 5 years
We all grow at different speeds and densities, no worries!
- Jack
See his hands. That gives you a good hint of his hair growing capacity.
That's because he doesn't trim for a month at a time. The best growth comes from 6 to 8 weeks of painful waiting. You can do it man.
Thank god for this bc I look like a caveman at week 4
I thought your name was mr lactating thug, and read your comment thinking duh.

Greg, He's right. He's got a full beard and grows it pretty fast. Maybe you're saying coz you've a light and patchy beard.
@@AsadAli-jc5tg every beard is unique, you gotta work with what you have
Greg Berzinsky how do you deal with ingrown hairs?? They fuck my neck up when I start trying to let it grow?

whats the best way to keep the growth uniform? i find im getting alot of wayward hairs just sticking out randomly that i cant tame, as well as it growing faster closer to my neck than on my cheeks and jawline
Serious question.
Does frequent ejaculation affect beard growth ?
Great Channel. Thank you! One question though... A lot of the beard grooming Channel say to not touch the beard for 90 days. What are your thoughts on that?
I lean towards 30 days, but even then, I like to clean up my neck line and cheek lines during that time. I'm a bigger fan of a groomed beard rather than the full wild look.

you give all of us a lot of advices and explanations.. tks..
You're welcome, thank you for watching!

This is very helpful for me. i have exactly the same beard after a month , and because of your others video i know what it could be if i wait a little longer. Your tips really help me. Ty
This is a great tutorial. Thank you for the tips and the great close up at the end. Very quality video!
Your beard look so different just from trimming the bottom. We have been growing the beard the same time and it grows similar to yours. I will be following your steps.
It's amazing what a difference just trimming the neckline can make. That's awesome to hear that you started your beard right around the time I did. We're in this together!

BUT, if you already know where your strengths and weaknesses, you can
actually shave in the neckline a little earlier.

Is there a good rule of thumb?
Thanks for the informative video. Wish I had that growth at 4 weeks.
I prefer the 2 finger method too!
Nice video. Great beard for 4 weeks. You are a good addition to the crew
Thanks! Means a lot to me!

i think the hardest part about the neckline is to get it symmetrical on both sides.

Ah yes! The good ol 2 finger method. Not quite as good as the shocker but still effective.
Thanks, Jack. Useful advice.
Totally understand the White Tee-Shirt (Who Cares) with whiskers from trimming . We're all guys and we know . The beard is looking good .
Next time I gotta remember to wear a darker shirt, although the shaved hairs really didn't show up on camera as much as I thought they would.

Nice tutorial, Jack
Every neckline is different, because some of us have cowlicks under the chin/on the neck. Just keep the neckline at least low enough to conceal the double chin
hey beardbrand, would you do this kind of format with mens hair? something like transitioning from middle long hairstyles to long hair on men? Cheers. :)
Emir Ibric tips on transitioning from a buzz cut would also be appreciated.
I've done a few videos in the past about growing the hair out. Here's a quick search result of some of those videos: ua-cam.com/users/results?search_query=beardbrand+grow+hair
Eric Bandholz thanks mate :)
Great channel btw, I'm learning a lot.
Great tips, I’ve been growing mine for a bout a month and a half and I was curious if you or anyone ever trims the length a little to let the slower growing hairs come in? Thanks
At it’s present rate of growth, this is what my Yeard will look like.
great content jack! Was it two fingers right above or on the Adams apple with the lowest finger at the bottom of the apple? thanks :)
Yep! Your middle finger should rest on the top of your Adam’s Apple when doing the two finger method.

What trimmer is that you are using?
Phillips Norelco Multigroom

This video got me started watching your journey, which convinced me to shave my lopsided beard, trimmed too high and start fresh today. I'm going to document mine with pictures on Facebook. Maybe I'll post a video at some point.
Based on your picture, you're still clean shaven.
I was worried that I had been trimming my beard too short, and then applied the 2-finger method. Turns out I’m on point, haha.
As long as you like the way it looks, it looks good. If you think it's too short, try cutting it a little higher
my beard is starting to get pretty long now should I keep trimming my neckline or just leave it? it's pretty hard to see
