I know those who flew her hated her, but I have such a spot in my heart for this bird. So many memories of my model-building days!

and that is supposed to interest anyone else how?

@@slowery43 Get up on the wrong side of the bed this morning? Lots of people have interest in old warbirds because they are model-builders and have researched them to more accurately reproduce them in miniature. If that's not you, fine. Sorry for you that you feel obligated to spread your unhappiness to others around you.

Hello David, Thank you for your comment and informing us of your model building days. Modern day SB2C-4 Helldiver kits by Academy are much better than the Matchbox/Revell/MPCs/Airfix ones we built years ago. I still enjoy building kits to this day. This plane has always fascinated me and it is still great fun to build whether it is a modern or vintage kit. Videos like this are very useful to model builders and offer a wealth of information. Cheers, Monte

@@montehugentobler4614 Thanks, Monte. I’ll have to check that one out. EBay currently has an Accurate Miniatures kit but it’s a prince’s ransom. Have you heard of the iModeler site?

Wild how the engine is just “floating” out front like that. Amazing engineering!

Is this to be the third one flying? I've always loved the Helldiver.

I heard something flying overhead a couple of days ago that sounded vintage, but I didn't see what it was. Is it flying now?

I don’t think it has flown just yet as they still had a few things to do, but it should be in the air in the next week or so as the plan is to fly it during the Aug 17-18 Pikes Peak airshow.

It has been undergoing restoration at Westpac in Colorado Springs for the past 4-5 years. It was painted just a couple weeks ago and they ran the engine for the first time earlier this week. It should be flying at the Pikes Peak airshow Aug 17 and 18.

If that occurs, this will be the third flyable SB2C in the world. The other two are the CAFs that was the only one flying for decades, the second SB2C belongs to Fagenmuseum and just returned to the air after a 17 year restoration.
