3:53 This type of dude is so typical of my time in China - In the more rural areas or in parks - people who are not rich or snobby like in the middle of the citys. These were consistently the nicest and most generous and friendly people I have met anywhere in my travels around world. The middle or lower class chinese. So generous and genuinely interested. They really really appreciated a foreigner taking time to learn the language. The men would always ply you with cigs and always give you a couple for the road aswell. very fond memories.
My favourite video of yours in a long time Tommy. It's easy to hold a view of a country when all you hear is the negative. It was really nice to see a positive side of China for a change and break down some of those negative ideas, which I would also be guilty of. Wuhan looks like a cool city with nice people.
I visited Wuhan last June and had an amazing few days there. I too was one of the few foreigners and went to the site of the wet market. It’s an overwhelming feeling to be at the centre of an historic event that had such a profound impact on the world. Now the city has regained its energy. People were friendly, food was wonderful and so many beautiful sites along the river and East Lake. Absolutely worth a visit!
my moms from wuhan so i would go back to visit every few years and it was always an incredible feeling !! i love re gan mian and it really hurt me a lot to see the whole world dogging on and making fun of china during the start of covid times. the government there is dodgy for sure but the country and people itself are nice and i’m glad you had a great time there :)
The wet market wasn't the issue, it was the virology institute. It's a shame that people were forced to lose their livelihood because it was used as a scapegoat by the chinese government.

I'm glad you accepted the smoke. On a recent trip to the Pudong airport, the driver busted out the smokes at the end of the ride. Not being in a rush and not really a smoker, it was worth taking the time to chat with the man over a cigarette. It is a form of greeting, bonding experience, and a ceremony of sorts.
In China people offer cigarettes as a sign of friendship and respect. They even give it for weddings and to business partners. Some of them are really expensive.

this is the cool thing about being an ex-smoker. i can puff one in situations like this, then easily go back to the reasoning of why i quit it being a routine. the occasional smoke, in the right situation, is like a spiritual experience. being addicted to them ruins it all.

I'm from the USA, and about 10 years ago I had an email "pen-pal" who lived in Wuhan, but was originally from Changsha. So I managed to learn a little bit about those two cities. So it was crazy to watch this video from Tommy and see those two specific cities referenced. Wuhan looks a really nice place, thanks for showing us around, and having fun with the locals! My youngest daughter went to Beijing for 4 months, and won an award for learning Chinese, proud mum moment, as my mum was also good with languages. Love dumplings. Thats one thing I have to say I enjoyed about serving in the Navy was being able to see other countries. I was in Wuhan in December 2019. It's much nicer than what most people think. All of China's 19 Tier 1 cities are modern and very developed. There are fond things that I remember in my short trips to China. One of them is complete strangers sharing their food with me (in restaurants, during plane rides, etc.) or giving me little souvenirs.
You probably wouldn't have been sharing food with complete strangers in December 2019 if the Chinese government hadn't covered up the new virus it had accidentally released a couple of months earlier!

@@nikokokokokoko I only know about Xishuangbanna from my travels in northern Thailand and talking with some Chiang Rai locals who have family there. I've always wanted to visit myself. The culture seems very beautiful and unique, the temples look spectacular, and plus there are rainforests!

There is direct flight from Xishuangbanna to Chiang Rai and Chiang Mai, it’s easy to get around here. Buy a ticket then you’ll be here lol

Very good video ! I have spent time in China, and found it so accomodating, the people are very friendly and helpful ! Most of the time I was there was in Guandong, Guanzhou, Foshan..and yes in Wuhan too, as well as down to Hainan....all great places....please let us live together in peace !
I lived in Wuhan a few years, had a startup there, left a couple of years before pandemic. Had Re Gan Mian almost every day - 在武汉，每天吃热干面！Still had a lot of friends there when the pandemic started, was very scary, was chatting with them every day. Almost all of them left, but then when they realised how bad things became in their home country, most wanted to go back to Wuhan but couldn't due to border closures! 3 years later, only a couple left.

Fantastic. I had a fourteen hour layover in Shanghai, China back in 2019 onwards to Malaysia. It was a pleasant five hour walk and the brief interaction with the locals at night was an amazing experience. Traveling solo gives you hindsight on the beauty of what to expect and is the best remedy for whatever ails ya, good or bad. Always be on the good, folks.

Amazing content, why on earth i haven't come upon this channel before or why YT didnt recommend it to me is beyond me. It's my kind of content! ❤ I was surprised how modern and clean it looks, for some reason i imagined Beijing or Shanghai being more like that, but Wuhan could easily be mistaken for a Japanese major city or even South Korean, lots of great food at super affordable prices. And the infrastructure no different from many majory cities in the west. Totally different than expected, must say, and i've been around the world.

The old man is so real and genuine. That's what makes China such a charming and interesting country to visit and explore as a foreigner. Even if I don't sepak Chinese (those translation apps do help sometimes!). People are often not showing much emotion and don't wear a fake smile, but very often are genuinely curious and interested in having a conversation and understand the foreigners better. It would be great if some Europeans and Americans would also try to understand China a little bit more.

Allah said in Surah Al-Mu’minun : “God has never begotten a son, nor is there any god besides Him. Otherwise, each god would have taken away what it has created, and some of them would have gained supremacy over others. Glory be to God, far beyond what they describe. Allah means the one and only God, the God of all prophets and creatures, the creator of the universe and mankind, and the Master of the Day of judgment, where our destiny, Hell or Paradise, is decided based on our faith and deeds in this trial life, and above all, Allah's mercy. Many Religions that we know nowadays, at their beginning were true and under Islam, initiated by one of the prophets of God, but their original teachings, history and scriptures have been corrupted over time with falsification and polytheism, or lost and replaced with false ones. That's why Islam is the only Religion accepted by God nowadays, which consists in bearing witness that there is no god besides Allah (God in Aramaic, the original language of Jesus and the Gospel), and that Muhammad is His servant and messenger, just like Jesus and Moses and others are His servants and messengers. Never a messenger of God said he was God or literally son of God, it was the people after him who changed the words of God and corrupted the Religion. God is unique and absolute, He does not need to have a family and sons or to associate anyone else with His kingdom, He can simply create whatever He wants, everything belongs to Him, and to Him everything will return. Allah said in Surah Al-Mu’minun : “God has never begotten a son, nor is there any god besides Him. These were consistently the nicest and most generous and friendly people I have met anywhere in my travels around world. The middle or lower class chinese. So generous and genuinely interested. They really really appreciated a foreigner taking time to learn the language. The men would always ply you with cigs and always give you a couple for the road aswell. very fond memories.
Chinese people are so amazing. Such a beautiful country with so many thousands of years of history. I dream of visiting there once in my lifetime.

I visited Wuhan last June and had an amazing few days there. I too was one of the few foreigners and went to the site of the wet market. It’s an overwhelming feeling to be at the centre of an historic event that had such a profound impact on the world. Now the city has regained its energy. People were friendly, food was wonderful and so many beautiful sites along the river and East Lake. Absolutely worth a visit!
my moms from wuhan so i would go back to visit every few years and it was always an incredible feeling !! i love re gan mian and it really hurt me a lot to see the whole world dogging on and making fun of china during the start of covid times. the government there is dodgy for sure but the country and people itself are nice and i’m glad you had a great time there :)

I'm glad you accepted the smoke. On a recent trip to the Pudong airport, the driver busted out the smokes at the end of the ride. Not being in a rush and not really a smoker, it was worth taking the time to chat with the man over a cigarette. It is a form of greeting, bonding experience, and a ceremony of sorts.
In China people offer cigarettes as a sign of friendship and respect. They even give it for weddings and to business partners. Some of them are really expensive.

I'm from the USA, and about 10 years ago I had an email "pen-pal" who lived in Wuhan, but was originally from Changsha. So I managed to learn a little bit about those two cities. So it was crazy to watch this video from Tommy and see those two specific cities referenced. I guess recent events have given people a strange impression of Wuhan, but I will always have good feelings about it because of my pen-pal.

Wuhan looks a really nice place, thanks for showing us around, and having fun with the locals! My youngest daughter went to Beijing for 4 months, and won an award for learning Chinese, proud mum moment, as my mum was also good with languages. Love dumplings. Those tree lined streets make it seem more relaxed.

Islam was the original Religion descended to earth from heaven with Adam and Eve (peace and blessing be upon them) in the beginning of humanity. and was passed to people with the succession of the 124 000 prophets and 315 messengers of God to all nations and civilizations since, passing by Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Ismaël, Joseph, Moses, Aaron, Joshua, David, Solomon and Jesus (Peace and blessing be upon them) during the history of mankind, the last replaces and completes the previous, until the succession of the last messenger of God fourteen centuries ago, Muhammad (Peace and blessing be upon him) to complete the noble morals of all mankind, to bring humans and jinns out of darkness into light, and to purify people's religion and belief from corruption and polytheism, and return it to purity and true monotheism, like it was in the times of the prophets (Peace and blessing be upon them).
Many Religions that we know nowadays, at their beginning were true and under Islam, initiated by one of the prophets of God, but their original teachings, history and scriptures have been corrupted over time with falsification and polytheism, or lost and replaced with false ones. That's why Islam is the only Religion accepted by God nowadays, which consists in bearing witness that there is no god besides Allah (God in Aramaic, the original language of Jesus and the Gospel), and that Muhammad is His servant and messenger, just like Jesus and Moses and others are His servants and messengers. Never a messenger of God said he was God or literally son of God, it was the people after him who changed the words of God and corrupted the Religion. God is unique and absolute, He does not need to have a family and sons or to associate anyone else with His kingdom, He can simply create whatever He wants, everything belongs to Him, and to Him everything will return. Allah said in Surah Al-Mu’minun : “God has never begotten a son, nor is there any god besides Him. Otherwise, each god would have taken away what it has created, and some of them would have gained supremacy over others. Glory be to God, far beyond what they describe. The Knower of the hidden and the manifest. He is exalted, far above what they associate. (91-92 / Translated by ITANI).
Allah means the one and only God, the God of all prophets and creatures, the creator of the universe and mankind, and the Master of the Day of judgment, where our destiny, Hell or Paradise, is decided based on our faith and deeds in this trial life, and above all, Allah's mercy.

Say, “He is God, the One. God, the Absolute. He begets not, nor was He begotten. And there is none comparable to Him.” (1-4 / Translated by ITANI).
Allah said in Surah An-Nisa : O FOLLOWERS of the Gospel! Do not overstep the bounds [of truth] in your religious beliefs, and do not say of God anything but the truth. Thus, [O Prophet,] if they argue with thee, say, "I have surrendered my whole being unto God, and [so have] all who follow me!" - and ask those who have been vouchsafed revelation aforetime, as well as all unlettered people, "Have you [too] surrendered yourselves unto Him?" And if they surrender themselves unto Him, they are on the right path; but if they turn away - behold, thy duty is no more than to deliver the message: for God sees all that is in [the hearts of] His creatures.
Verily, as for those who deny the truth of God's messages, and slay the prophets against all right, and slay people who enjoin equity - announce unto them a grievous chastisement.

I've binge watched so many episodes after finding this channel. I find other cultures so interesting, and I love seeing other countries. Thats one thing I have to say I enjoyed about serving in the Navy was being able to see other countries. I was in Wuhan in December 2019. It's much nicer than what most people think. All of China's 19 Tier 1 cities are modern and very developed.
There are fond things that I remember in my short trips to China. One of them is complete strangers sharing their food with me (in restaurants, during plane rides, etc.) or giving me little souvenirs.
You probably wouldn't have been sharing food with complete strangers in December 2019 if the Chinese government hadn't covered up the new virus it had accidentally released a couple of months earlier!

I lived in Wuhan a few years, had a startup there, left a couple of years before pandemic. Had Re Gan Mian almost every day - 在武汉，每天吃热干面！Still had a lot of friends there when the pandemic started, was very scary, was chatting with them every day. Almost all of them left, but then when they realised how bad things became in their home country, most wanted to go back to Wuhan but couldn't due to border closures! 3 years later, only a couple left.

Fantastic. I had a fourteen hour layover in Shanghai, China back in 2019 onwards to Malaysia. It was a pleasant five hour walk and the brief interaction with the locals at night was an amazing experience. Traveling solo gives you hindsight on the beauty of what to expect and is the best remedy for whatever ails ya, good or bad. Always be on the good, folks.

Amazing content, why on earth i haven't come upon this channel before or why YT didnt recommend it to me is beyond me. It's my kind of content! ❤ I was surprised how modern and clean it looks, for some reason i imagined Beijing or Shanghai being more like that, but Wuhan could easily be mistaken for a Japanese major city or even South Korean, lots of great food at super affordable prices. And the infrastructure no different from many majory cities in the west. Totally different than expected, must say, and i've been around the world.

The old man is so real and genuine. That's what makes China such a charming and interesting country to visit and explore as a foreigner. Even if I don't sepak Chinese (those translation apps do help sometimes!). People are often not showing much emotion and don't wear a fake smile, but very often are genuinely curious and interested in having a conversation and understand the foreigners better. It would be great if some Europeans and Americans would also try to understand China a little bit more.

My Dad spent 6 years in China and fell in love with the country back in the 30's. I had plans to go to China back in 2019 but then the co vid hit and that was the end of that trip. yea exactly... he even went and ate at a place that sold cat meat skewers. i think its really fucked up and i am very disgusted... they have skinned cat upside down hanging there at 25 minutes into the video. chinese people fuckin suck for doing this to cats. and part of their fucked up culture is that they torture the animal to death because they think it makes it taste better when they eat it. its so horrible...

Nice video. It shows China being a nice place with friendly people, leaving politics aside. Never been to Wuhan, except learning from History class, as mentioned in the video. Didn't know it was as westernized as Shanghai, many years ago, as it is situated in the middle of the country. Looking forward to your next place. Enjoy.
I like ST's videos. The approach is laid back but informative. I also like the interaction with the Chinese people he meets. There was an amusing ferry trip to an island with absolutely nothing of interest.
Loved this and also the series so far. Looks like a lovely city, never been but it's now on the list. People are people, the genuine hospitality from strangers in China can be so much more welcoming than those from 'back home'.
He actually didn't go to any scenic places that Wuhan has.
As a Chinese person who grew up in the West, it really pains me to see the relationship with China deteriorate. The China I see when I visit is not at all what people here think... and I just wish more people would take the time to watch your videos to understand others better before casting judgement.

Islam is an arabic word that means the Surrender to the One and Only God, our Creator, Protector, Provider, who gives us life and all that we have, we are safe and sound by his will and grace, we are His and to Him we return, and we have to thank him in this trial life by submitting to him by our free will, or later in the Day of judgment when it's too late to save our own skin. Islam was the original Religion descended to earth from heaven with Adam and Eve (peace and blessing be upon them) in the beginning of humanity. and was passed to people with the succession of the 124 000 prophets and 315 messengers of God to all nations and civilizations since, passing by Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Ismaël, Joseph, Moses, Aaron, Joshua, David, Solomon and Jesus (Peace and blessing be upon them) during the history of mankind, the last replaces and completes the previous, until the succession of the last messenger of God fourteen centuries ago, Muhammad (Peace and blessing be upon him) to complete the noble morals of all mankind, to bring humans and jinns out of darkness into light, and to purify people's religion and belief from corruption and polytheism, and return it to purity and true monotheism, like it was in the times of the prophets (Peace and blessing be upon them).
Many Religions that we know nowadays, at their beginning were true and under Islam, initiated by one of the prophets of God, but their original teachings, history and scriptures have been corrupted over time with falsification and polytheism, or lost and replaced with false ones. That's why Islam is the only Religion accepted by God nowadays, which consists in bearing witness that there is no god besides Allah (God in Aramaic, the original language of Jesus and the Gospel), and that Muhammad is His servant and messenger, just like Jesus and Moses and others are His servants and messengers. Never a messenger of God said he was God or literally son of God, it was the people after him who changed the words of God and corrupted the Religion. God is unique and absolute, He does not need to have a family and sons or to associate anyone else with His kingdom, He can simply create whatever He wants, everything belongs to Him, and to Him everything will return. Allah said in Surah Al-Mu’minun : “God has never begotten a son, nor is there any god besides Him. Otherwise, each god would have taken away what it has created, and some of them would have gained supremacy over others. Glory be to God, far beyond what they describe. The Knower of the hidden and the manifest. He is exalted, far above what they associate. (91-92 / Translated by ITANI).
Allah means the one and only God, the God of all prophets and creatures, the creator of the universe and mankind, and the Master of the Day of judgment, where our destiny, Hell or Paradise, is decided based on our faith and deeds in this trial life, and above all, Allah's mercy.
Allah said in Surah Al-Ikhlas : In the name of God, the Gracious, the Merciful.
Say, “He is God, the One. God, the Absolute. He begets not, nor was He begotten. And there is none comparable to Him.” (1-4 / Translated by ITANI).
Allah said in Surah An-Nisa : O FOLLOWERS of the Gospel! Do not overstep the bounds [of truth] in your religious beliefs, and do not say of God anything but the truth. The Christ Jesus, son of Mary, was but God's Apostle - [the fulfilment of] His promise which He had conveyed unto Mary - and a soul created by Him. Believe, then, in God and His apostles, and do not say, "[God is] a trinity". Desist [from this assertion] for your own good. God is but One God; utterly remote is He, in His glory, from having a son: unto Him belongs all that is in the heavens and all that is on earth; and none is as worthy of trust as God. Never did the Christ feel too proud to be God's servant, nor do the angels who are near unto Him. And those who feel too proud to serve Him and glory in their arrogance [should know that on Judgment Day] He will gather them all unto Himself: (171-172 / Translated by Muhammad Asad).
Allah the Most Merciful said in Surah Ali-Imran : Behold, the only [true] religion in the sight of God is [man's] self-surrender unto Him; and those who were vouchsafed revelation aforetime took, out of mutual jealousy, to divergent views [on this point] only after knowledge [thereof] had come unto them. But as for him who denies the truth of God's messages - behold, God is swift in reckoning!
Thus, [O Prophet,] if they argue with thee, say, "I have surrendered my whole being unto God, and [so have] all who follow me!" - and ask those who have been vouchsafed revelation aforetime, as well as all unlettered people, "Have you [too] surrendered yourselves unto Him?" And if they surrender themselves unto Him, they are on the right path; but if they turn away - behold, thy duty is no more than to deliver the message: for God sees all that is in [the hearts of] His creatures.
Verily, as for those who deny the truth of God's messages, and slay the prophets against all right, and slay people who enjoin equity - announce unto them a grievous chastisement.
It is they whose works shall come to nought both in this world and in the life to come; and they shall have none to succour them.

God said : Say, “We believe in Allah, and in what was revealed to us, and in what was revealed to Abraham, and Ishmael, and Isaac, and Jacob, and the Patriarchs, and in what was given to Moses and Jesus, and in what was given to the prophets from their Lord. We do not differentiate between any of them. And to Him, we surrender.”
