  • What is transposition of the great arteries? The great arteries are the aorta and the pulmonary artery, and transposition means to switch places, so with transposition of the great arteries (TGA), the aorta and pulmonary artery switch places such that they're connected to the wrong ventricle.

hi! i had TGA surgery when i was 5 days old. i am 18 years old now and start college this coming fall. i’m here to tell you that if you are living with this or a parent that has a baby with this condition, everything will be ok by the grace of God! the doctors will take care for u :)

@@lost52warrior TGA is a rare heart defect. It starts in the womb and it happens when the 2 main blood vessels that pump the blood around the body are switched (the aorta and pulmonary artery) they call this an arterial switch. the surgery can happen right after giving birth or a couple of days after (like me) doctors are really good at monitoring the babies. if this happened 18 years ago, who knows what technology they have to monitor your baby now! you also have to go for yearly checkups to a cardiologist. i hope this helped, good luck with your pregnancy and praying for a safe delivery and a healthy life for your baby! ❤️

I’m 51 born with TGA and had a mustard procedure when I was 14 months at the IWK Hospital in Halifax. I did have a post operative stroke that I believe resulted me having a learning disability. I’ve received my first a Pacemaker at 19. Thankfully, I haven’t had any other serious illnesses in my life. I live in Vancouver and see PATCH clinic and annually. Thank you for creating this. I’ll probably end up sharing it on my Instagram. ❤

Thank you! We have a 36 hour old newborn that has this condition. They are performing surgery tomorrow to correct the condition. It is dextro-TGA and your video leads one to think that the surgery is fairly straight forward, you switch the arteries back to where they should be. However, what is the risk for brain damage once the baby is born? thanks

I’m thankful for you that you are prepared. We only found out after our little one was born. My prayers are with you and your family for a successful surgery and recovery.

Hey! Read my comment above :) I am someone who has underwent this surgery in 1998. My parents were very worried, but I turned out great. I am currently 6 ft tall, can workout, play ball and am a software engineer. This surgery left scars on my body but did not stop me from doing all the things any normal kid can. :) I hope my story can help strengthen ur family and I wish your child all the best.

The blood comes from lungs as oxygenated to left section of heart. And the oxy blood goes to whole body and this blood comes right section as deoxygenated .
