You know, I actually like that they're not giving any tutorials. Games used to be like that before, it makes you want to research and discover all the things the game has.

I guess all those booklet manuals that were bundled with virtually every retail game (so basically all of them sans preinstalled ones) were just in my imagination, huh?

-Same Type Attack Bonuses (or STAB) is a mechanic in the game. Meaning a Pokemon of a specific type gets an additional attack bonus when using the same type attack. This is actually more valuable than just comparing CP. This is one of the reasons why the Eveelutions are so absurdly strong.
-The three dominant stats in Pokemon Go are Attack, Speed, and Defense. There is no special attack or special defense.
-Finding Pokemon in certain areas are relatively canon to where you would find them in the gameboy games. But, there has to be either a gym or Pokestop nearby to recognize the area.
-Pokemon defending gyms attack in set 1.5 second intervals, regardless of speed.
-Each team has an unlisted perk: Valor can catch high CP pokemon easier and attract higher CP pokemon., Mystic gets bonus CP when evolving pokemon and more CP when powering up ones that don't evolve, and Instinct's Pokemon hatch with 90% of their CP bar filled and significantly more candy.
-All wild Pokemon cap at level 30 and hatched ones cap at level 20, so save your stardust for endgame to power up your favorites. (Unknown how team perks affect this)
-Pokemon Go generates a lot of junk files and cache. Get an app that can automatically clean these files up to save valuable memory space and prevent unnecessary crashes.
-The ceiling fan "trick" doesn't work for hatching eggs. Stop being lazy and travel.

i.e. a water type Pokemon using a water type attack gets a damage bonus? As opposed to say a water type Pokemon using a ground attack?

    • @LoneWoIffe
      @LoneWoIffe 8 років тому +5

+Alex Pegington Yes. It's not enough to match types, you have to match moves. If a Pikachu is fending off a Staryu, it needs to use an electric attack. Something like Quick Attack won't deal extra damage just because Staryu is weak against electric Pokémon. Basic game rules since the beginning.

    • @solblackguy
      @solblackguy 8 років тому +1

      Ravyn Liam
True, but what I'm talking about is a grass type will deal more damage with a grass move than another type that uses a grass move. Or a grass/poison will get a bonus to their grass and poison moves. But a normal will only deal the base damage with a psychic or ground attack. Kind of why Snorlax with Bodyslam is more powerful than one with Earthquake. Their Zen Headbutt won't deal as much damage as a psychic type with similar CP.

The one with the google maps download is total horse shit according to one of Niantics developpers. He was asked on twitter if the tweak actually works and is response simply was "There is no way". Turns out the app is sandboxed, so it doesn't share resources with other apps to prevent malicious usage of the app.
I tested it myself, since I live at the border of 2 other countries, I downloaded the maps of surrounding areas and then crossed the border to get a cell connection to a german provider. The Pokemon Go app kept showing me moving on a green area (it couldn't download the map) while the google maps app still used the downloaded map.

Razzberries don't expire until your pokeball hits the pokemon
Use real money to buy the bag upgrade (lucky eggs and egg incubators are also helpful). Having extra bag space is worth it to hold more pokeballs!
If you plan to not challenge gyms, delete most your potions and revives so you can hold even more pokeballs!
Walk when you have the incense on. It gives you way more pokemon than if you stay in one spot
Refrain from evolving pokemon to their second form when they also have a third form. It's actually better to wait until you're a high level, but at least wait until you have enough to evolve straight to the last third form.
When you're running, make sure the game is still working. The loading symbol should be disappearing every now and again. If it doesn't disappear, the game probably isn't loading correctly. Close the app to reset.

One of my favorite tips is to save up as many candies as you can, particularly Weedle, Caterpie, and Pidgey candies, since those pokemon only require 12 candies to level up. Once you've collected enough candies for at least 30+ evolutions (some people go as high as 60+) and a Lucky Egg, use the egg and start evolving them as fast as possible. Each evolution with the Lucky Egg active will give you 1,000 exp, and at lower levels, it means you'll go up 3+ levels in under 30 minutes depending on how many evolutions you did.

The yellow flash around the side of the screens is the dodge indicator. Don't wait for the attack to start, just wait until you see the yellow flash. Try to time your attacks to avoid attacking in the middle of a yellow indicator so you can dodge.
If you see the pokemon you're fighting stop attacking for a brief moment, resist the temptation to get in extra hits. Wait the extra second because it's charging up it's super attack which will likely do massive damage, even if you're of the opposing type. Wait until you see the yellow, then dodge to minimize the damage received.

    1. you can also zoom by double tapping one finger and then swipe up or down. 2. curve balls can be thrown more accurately if you swipe your finger towards the three arrows on side of screen (the arrows don't always show up). 3. extra exp. during a throw is achieved by bull's-eye and the size of the ring determines nice throw, great throw, or excellent throw.

You missed the biggest actual hidden mechanic: IVs. They are in this game, too, which means higher CP isn't necessarily better; higher CP could simply mean the Pokémon is at a higher level - another actual hidden mechanic.
Generally, you want to keep the Pokémon with the highest HP and CP at the same "upgrade" cost, because you can have, say, a 50 HP/150 CP Zubat with a 1000 cost, and a 51 HP/151 CP Zubat with a 1300 cost, and the one with the lower cost will have significantly better IVs. (It was an exaggerated example, but you should know what I mean.)

A couple things I've noticed while playing:
When I evolve caterpie with any cp... Like cp112 or whatever, the metapod it evolves to always has a cp around 50 or so.
Also, evolving actually costs one candy less than what it requires. For example, pidgey costs 12 to evolve. If I have exactly 12 candies, I'll still have 1 left over after the evolution.

    • @dragonuy5512
      @dragonuy5512 8 років тому +1

is not that it cost one less candy, instead you get one candy for every evolution.
So you still need 12 candies to evolve a pidgey but after it evolves it will reward you 1 candy, plus the XP points for evolving it.
      I hope this helps

So you need to level up to like 10 to 15 , to catch stronger pokemons, there are also hidden ratings on your attk/def/hp called IV, it scales based on your trainer level (check the silph road), a strong iv has roughly10-20% higher stats. Another strong determinant of your pokemon is his special abilities which gets bonuses from (STAB normal special attacks with a normal pokemon, water special attacks with a water pokemon) and special skills has a dps rating. If you're lazy in getting stab or evolving till you get a superior special skill, just use normal move psycho cut (Kadabra and Alakhazam) coz it's dps is superb for a normal move.

It's pretty well known to save up your Pokemon to evolve a bunch with a lucky egg activated. However I favorite the ones I plan to evolve when there's enough candies to evolve them, this way I can easily count how many are ready to be evolved and can sort my Pokemon so my favorite are at the top so I don't have to go looking for them.

Put on your lucky egg when evolving your Pokémon or battling gyms, will give you double the EXP which helps you level faster. If you have a bicycle and your as lazy as me, just, drive around :) Way faster and better then just walking. Max 15 km/u! Also, put out the AR-view when you are in certain area's or are trying to catch flying type Pokémon, will make it easier because the background will turn normal game like instead of the stuff behind your camera.
That's the tips I've picked up in the past few days.

What you don't mention is that Vaporeon is weighted in CP much higher than Flareon and Jolteon while having better attacks. Why does water gun get a 10 but thundershock and ember are 5s? Also the better move set a pre-evolution pokemon has the worse an evolved version will have. IE a Pidgeotto with wing attack will get steel wing as pidgeot and the opposite is also true.

Its because Jolteon has a better typing as of now. If you look at the amount of certain types in just gen 1, there are less pokemon that are super effective against electric compared to water and fire. Vaporeon has weaknesses out of its ass, and Fareon isn't that much different, but if you look Jolteon doesn't have a weakness to the other eeveelutions so there is no reason to make its cp just as high making it easily topple others.

yah but from what I've done the uhm jolteon 1200 that I have that evolved from a stronger eevee then my 1500 vaporeon is beating all these water fire type mixes easily.

making the circle smaller while catching a pokemon does make a better catch, but only if your pokeball is within the circle

  • @aabelmendoza

you can regain a pokeball that is thrown to catch a pokemon if you miss and see it rolling away, you tap on it quick before it disappears and it goes back into your inventory.

That was a myth that was debunked. If you look at the number of balls you have it keeps going down regardless.

    "NAME YOUR EVEE'S"
    1. This only works once.
    2. You showed its name in the video and still spelled its name wrong.
Also, max level is 40. Wild pokemon's CP maxes at level 30. You get Great Balls at 12 and Ultra Balls at 20. If you want to get lots of exp, get hundreds of candies for Caterpie, Weedle and Pidgey, catch a few dozen of them, use a Lucky Egg, then go on an evolving spree (*don't* evolve the Metapods, Kakunas or Pidgeottos).

Pokemon are attracted to trainers. the more trainers in an area, the greater the number of pokemon. If you, as a trainer, occupy an area devoid of pokemon for a turn of the clock, day to night, night to day, some will start to appear at the next turn.

im an old school gamer and i knew almost all of these games through playing go and learning as i "GO" ;), Also Catch every Pidgey, caterpie and Weedle as you can for lucky eggs, they are the cheapest to evolve and easy to find, also you can gain A TON of xp if you do this early on, ive seen someone go to 8-15 in a half hour because he just caught every pidgey, caterpie and weedle he could. It sounds like a lot but if your just starting out justr catch every one of those pokemon till you hit lvl 10+ then use the egg and go nuts with evolving all your pokemon, then you can use a random egg on other things like catch new pokemon that you havent caught or catch as much pokemon as you can in that half hour, you can GO to lvl 20 in a week if you do that trick.
Also look up pokemon go nests in your area, you might get lucky and find great nests of pokemon in your area

I actually tested the naming theory several times and ended up with a few jolteons and flareon named ranier. apparently the naming theory only works if you don't already have that evolution in your pokedex

um, one quick tip to make friends is to stand in the middle of a highly populated area and/or park and scream out "Dragonite" or "Snorlax". Once you do that, you'll have friends in no time. Just make sure that when you do this to be wearing heavy suits like, football pads, bullet proof vest, full body armor. you know what, wear all three. that is a quick and easy tutorial on how to make friends, now go make some friends

All of this are good tips for starter players, except for the Eevee evolution, since version 1.0.3 you are not longer able to choose what Pokemon Eevee will evolve into just by naming it.
