I grew up in 40s and 50s. Every summer was like this. When school was in session, no A/C, just open windows. No fans. We never got a day off because it was too hot. Any body remember WIBG radio? Had a contest every summer. If you could guess the day it would be 99 degrees, you would win a prize. 99 was their dial setting.

I remember sitting in the grass and the teacher telling us to close our eyes and listen and count all the different sounds we heard. It was fun. There are fun things you can do when it is hot out.

Nineties temperatures in the summer are not new for NJ. They used to open the windows, turn on fans, and have class outside in the afternoon. I think the teachers were lazy and wanted to go home. They will spend $40,000 on a beer bash but can't buy portable ACs and fans for the classrooms. That was unfair to the working parents who pay huge property taxes to make them have to leave work because school is suddenly cancelled. Even in a third world country, I don't think they close schools if the temps are in the nineties.

      State regs don't allow fans.

@@cr-iv1el We used to have box fans in front of the open windows and the lights were out and the shades were up.

When I was in grammar school and high school we had no A/C. We survived. Kids today are weak!

Plus NY drivers are enjoying getting cut off and blocked in on the highways so aside from riding the left lane they can pay for their politics and go vacation in Massachusetts.
