Ya for me it’s always the “first three” albums. Though some people thought Allen’s riffs were what made them special, and so when he left after Warpath, those people thought the band’s charm was sort of gone. It’s hard to argue against Maximum violence though. Sick album. I like it more than Warpath personally

For those who judge Chris based on his right now. You should have seen him 12-26 years ago. I saw SIX FEET UNDER with MANOWAR at the Whiskey A Go Go Summer of 1999. Both bands killd it but Chris had soul crushing growl and amazing shrieks ntm he had a great tone in yhe mid-range as well. I honestly don't know how his voice got shredded seemingly out of nowhere.
I saw cannibal corpse with Chris Barnes in 97 and you are correct his growls were deep like bass drums and his shrieks were like feedback CD quality. Couldn't believe my ears and will never forget.savage performance
He probably ended up with a pollup on one of his vocal chords. It happens to a lot of heavy vocalists when they push their voice too hard. & only way to fix it is to have it surgically removed and risk it permanently changing your voice for the worst.
Butler's bass sounds killer here too. Punches right through, so many sound guys bury the bass. I had that same Charvel model, sold it like 15 years ago. Still regret it.

Chris Barnes is a beast! It sucks he had to leave Corpse , he writes some crazy awesome lyrics and his voice is one of a kind. I love Cannibal Corpse very much but Six Feet Under just as great. Butchered At Birth my favorite Barnes album but really every one he did with Corpse is amazing I mean Eaten Back To Life Tomb Of The Mutilated The Bleeding amazing stuff.
Cannibal were so stupid for getting rid of him that early on , then you see bands like suffocation with extreme vocal changes by the same vocalist , and they didnt got rid of him , Alex and paul were a jerks with barnes , he could have performing cannibal until the 2000 ...
Chris’s high screams were already getting quite weak on The Bleeding, imo hiring George when they did was the best decision Cannibal Corpse ever made along with tuning down

I think I love this even more than CC; their sound is more melodic, with follow-through that doesn't breakup the riffs ~ just a very smooth, very tight delivery, and they rock! Please....Alex Webster is cannibal corpse Don't get me wrong, Chris is THE godfather of death metal vocals and i've always preferred their stuff with him. Not only that but i'll take anything six feet under over most george era cc. But they continued without him and did so well enough to create a long standing "chris vs george" argument in the death metal world. So i think it's safe to say that Chris wasn't the be all, end all for that band.

Might as well just scraped SFU after the last album with the OG lineup. And started something new like he did with SFU. Pretty much. The vocals on True Carnage were brutal as fuck. Probably the best since Haunted. Then he started to half ass it till Undead. Now its half ass again. He can still put out some brutal shit when he's not lazy in the studio.
he was new in the band then . Also, he has a different style to that of West, somewhat tighter. And he did awesome job on following albums, also his solos are better than West's.

Regarding his voice, he can still growl like he does here, but he's trying a different approach wich clearly isn't very good or appealing.

Put it like this imgaine Chris barnes kicked everyone out of Cannibal Corpse and hired SFU members in there place but RAN with the Cannibal name. New music, new sound, same vox. Might as well just scraped SFU after the last album with the OG lineup. And started something new like he did with SFU.
The era of SFU is long gone and he is just riding on the coat tails of the name.

Pretty much. The vocals on True Carnage were brutal as fuck. Probably the best since Haunted. Then he started to half ass it till Undead. Now its half ass again. He can still put out some brutal shit when he's not lazy in the studio.

. Also, he has a different style to that of West, somewhat tighter. And he did awesome job on following albums, also his solos are better than West's.
