incredible film. They don't make epic, gorgeous films like this anymore. It really transported me into that time. Everything was perfect. I wish I could get the score.
absolutely love this film. It's radiant and also terribly painful and revealing of human nature. But I just cannot reconcile the fact that someone such Roman Polanski who did what he did to a 13 year old girl, also chose to direct this, and beyond that - made a masterpiece of it. How? In what world? Especially considering the themes of injustice and that scene in the forest...it greatly disturbs me. And then there's that list of signatories in support of Roman Polanski made in 2009. More than 70 celebrities signed it, including Bruce Weber and Harvey Weinstein but many of the others are among my favourite directors - Wim Wenders and Paolo Sorrentino. Surely there are other predators still on the red carpets of Hollywood.
Because he literally embodied Tess, the film was made about him basically from a symbolical perspective if you looked close enough, he was no predator, he was a victim of the culture and society. Anyone with a soul in their very being would sign it and wish him to be released. The irony is incredible how many people were blinded by their self righteous judgmental mind. Life does not work in a black or white fashion, nothing is this or that. It is the rules and justice systems in this world that operate in that manner, this is why they have been flawed from the very beginning and need to change, the entire system rooted in punishment as basically extensions of revenge have not solved anything. Once you understand that, then you'll understand how Roman could have made a film like this in the firsr place. Our human race will never manage to evolve until we start accepting and validating murderers, pedophiles, and everything that our ego hates which only perpetuated it in this world, because we have banished it in our hearts, this is why so many of us out there have been creating a tremendous effort to humanize pedophilia as much as possible so we could transcend this paradigm.
