What a blessing it was to have a SEGA Saturn at a young age, sitting in front of your box television, playing this on a Saturday. Those were fond times.
@@jaywalker177 oh yeah what a blessing to have a console that died after 2 years and then got no new games and couldnt even do transparencies😆🤣
@@terrymartin4234 The Sega Saturn can do transparency effects. In general it is more powerful than the PS1, despite having sold much less, and being difficult to program (most of its processors use Assembly as the programming language)
Oh, the nostalgia is killing me, with the music, graphics, everything. My preteen and teenage years coming back!
Despite growing up with the genesis version, this gives me far more nostalgia.
And my 1st grade year's coming back, too. I mean, my dad bought me the PC version of the game a long time ago, especially after I got my very own Barbie computer.
I own a copy of the Genesis version, and the Saturn version, no regrets. It's not the best Sonic game by far, but it's not that bad either, just takes getting used to.
🤦♂️ I had regrets... I was so bitterly disappointed when I played it as a child. It must have been it the discount bin when my dad picked it up and he figured I wouldn't notice it wasn't Sonic & Knuckles.
=DONT YOU SAY
=SORRY,BUT PROGRAMMING ON *SATURN* IN _THAT_ KIND OF QUALITY IS THE MOST DIFFICULT THING EVER=......
This game aged very well, better that some early "true 3D" games of Saturn/Psx
The Saturn version is better folks, but the Genesis is very impressive for the hardware
Fabricio Vega I think the only thing that the Saturn version has over the Genesis is its controller, special stages, and only a few tracks, mainly the title screen. The Genesis is more bright and colorful, and shows the tone Sonic should have with its aesthetic. The music is still great and some were recycled for Adventure. It doesn’t take centuries to get through a clear screen and then a loading screen. And I think the opening is very catchy, it almost looks like a filter in Mario Odyssey
Many say the music is better in the Genesis version. In my opinion, that's debatable - I think it just comes down to preference. But I'd say that from an objective standpoint, the music could really be the only argument, since everything else I can think of in the game is a clear step up on the Saturn/PC version, especially things like texture quality. The solid floor colors on Genesis really clash with the rendered wall textures. Saturn made it all match perfectly, and all the other textures were higher in detail also.
The Saturn version is better visually but I liked the music tracks or at least some of them from the genesis version
2:57 the music in this special stage version of this game becomes very exciting and I prefer it over the Genesis version.
Love the ending song. Always stuck with me since 96.
Ever since hearing the theme of this game in Generations, I've adored most of the Saturn version's soundtrack. Previously I only knew of the Genesis version.
The Saturn version is better than the mega drive in my opinion I wish they were the same version tho
@@marquisthomas7756 Even the Special Stages are different depending on what version of the game you play, too
Finally!
We haven't seen a Sega Saturn longplay on this channel in a long time, thanks for this!
I always loved Sonic’s model in the bonus rounds, I thought it looked cute.
Rusty Ruin in this version is one of the best zones in all Sonic history.
Mine too, as a kid id have sonic talk to the suit of armor statues.
I didn't even know there was a Saturn version! This seems so much better than the Genesis version that I played as a kid.
it was the plan B for a Saturn Sonic game in case Sonic Xtreme was cancelled (which it was, so it ended up having to be done)
This is my favorite Sega Saturn game
1:17:55 My fav heavy techno/industrial song from decades ago.
I played this only on PC. I think its time to get a Sega Saturn...
Something about this feels nostalgic, i wasnt even born in the 90's its just, something about the saturn version takes me way back
It's the same for me but for other things.
That false nostalgic has a name I think.
I swear I love the rusty ruins area where sonic spins like a ballerina
The gold shield is also a homing shield. If you hit the jump button near an enemy twice, you will lock on to it and take it out. Its been many years since I've played this game but that was one advantage I always made use of.
I didn’t even know it had any effect, was it like that on the genesis version too?
I do find the Saturn/PC version of boss theme better than Genesis version.
It sounds so evil and dat evil laugh.
That laugh is also used as Ambience on Baron Dante's Castle on Croc Legend of the Gobbos
Just remember that the Saturn's hardware is more advanced than the Genesis'.
The music of Rusty Ruins act 1 helps me with my insomia a lot.
You gotta admit those weather effects are awesome
Oh man the soundtrack goes soo hard. I never noticed as a kid. I can't believe how much I looked forward to seeing Spring Stadium. The sites, colors, and music...and who can forget Diamond Dust. Takes me back man.
Omg the delights of seeing this being played brings back so much good memories!
Funny thing about Rusty Ruins that i just noticed is there are badniks that look like crocodiles and bees, but no such thing as badnik that looks like Chamilion like Espio
This is a rare instance where I revisit an old game and realize that it looks BETTER than how I remember it looking.
As a kid I never knew wtf to do in this game lol
Eh, your opinion. I just don't think Sonic's concept works in isometric form.
I’m sure the Saturn version is the superior version, but it hasn’t aged well
the special stages in this game look sick as fuck
1:30:36 This is still one of the best VG endings.
The DKC ending bar none though IMO.
I had the pc version when I was a kid and I think it might be the first Sonic game I actually played.
I hope Jon Burton can do a DX version of the Saturn game.
+P Ferrerira As someone who's played the Genesis version many times but never the Saturn version, I agree.
man just hearing the music/sounds again was a shot of dopamine straight to the brain
All I gotta say, rusty ruins zone music is BUSTIN
People hate this game, but its so fun to play. I Remember how much was fun back in the days
If the special stages were the full game, it would be on my top tens list. But, I won’t lie I love this game. Reminds me of sonic 1. They through out a bunch of concepts, and tried to make it their absolute best. No matter how well this game did, it still won’t make me not love the hedgehog any less
Did you know that the Saturn port took only a couple of months to finish? After the cancellation of sonic xtreme, Sega needed a sonic game ready for Christmas. They used sonic’s model from sonic xtreme for the cutscenes and special stages. The special stages also use the same engine that sonic xtreme uses
As far as I know, the Special Stages are different depending on what version you're playing on. I might have noticed that when I first started playing the Genesis version of Sonic 3D Blast on Sonic Mega Collection, after I accidentally broke the PC version.
Sega should port this on the Switch. i wouldn't even mind the Megadrive port too. both versions are great.
Edit: i just realized the MD version is apart of the Genesis collection for switch. i didn't know until i purchased it.
@bandegom Technically the Saturn version was re-released on Windows 97. Though it was pretty poorly received for being a downgrade from the Saturn Version, compressed CGI scenes, no weather effects, the sound quality is worse, and the special stages are much worse and don't even play that well. Though then the PC version was never re-released again, I guess the backlash caused them to not re-release it and they just decided to only re-release the genesis version for being somewhat well received.
@@Turbulation1 *Windows 95 (and therefore also Windows 98) - there was no Windows 97, although "Windows 97" was an unofficial name of a pirated version of Windows 95 OSR2.
my first sonic game, despite the critics about this game, i love it
Best Special Stages in all of Sonic
I still think of the Saturn as a powerful system because I had a Genesis for the whole Saturn era and it has this mystique as the one I never got to play.
volcano valley was even scarier in this version. the lava looks more dangerous. how some spots are still bubbling even as they cool. and the molten lava still liquid under the crust. what got to me the most was the trees that look like hands reaching up as they burned in excruciating agony. some are all charred and others are still burning. this stage has a feeling of hellish agony to it. the music in the genesis was more fitting though in my opinion. it was more anguished sounding. it gives you just a tiny glimpse of what any burning life form suffers. this stage is very haunting for that reason. most likely once a forest that was burned in lava from a volcano most of the life forms are already dead and incinerated but the biggest trees have yet to fully be immolated.
Lol man my VERY first time playing this was at a Toys R Us. The music for Green Grove was stuck in my head for years until I finally got it myself.
This might not be the ideal Sonic formula but I still think this and the Mega Drive version are good games
VERY GOOD, CONGRATULATIONS
The Genesis version is getting a Director's cut
I was stunned when I read your comment. I thought, why the hell is it happening at all? Then I did research to see if it was going to be fixed so it's good (making it possibly worth getting). Turns out it's essentially a rom hack. I was hoping for an official released endorsed by Sega.
@@Maxx_XIII well, it's technically official, it's being developed by one of the coders from Traveller's Tales, the developer of 3D blast. It's just not endorsed by SEGA, or at least the company itself.
I love the soundtrack. Visuals look better of course. Seems odd that Tails only gives 1ups when you get emeralds from him in Genesis. Event music takes so long to load when getting speed, invincibility or results. The menus, result screens, title cards & screen fades seem so slow and sluggish compared to the instantly loading Genesis version. Kinda makes the game lag & lose momentum compared to Genesis. Special Stage hardly gives any reaction time compared to Sonic 2 stages, mainly because of the camera angle. Interesting to hear the result screen shared with Sonic R.
Totally agree. Also, the sound effects seem a bit superior in the genesis version (when sonic hits eggman, or when the boss ship is destroyed, just to name a few examples). odd.
El juego que marcó mi infancia :') amo esta versión
The moment I started watching this video I thought, “It’s official; this version is marginally more better than the Genesis version.”
I only had the demo disc version and could only play the first level :( but the graphics at the time were mind blowing for the young kid I was!
Good video! I love the intro :D
PD:You can doing one longplay of terraria its ah game for pc please :)
Being a Saturn owner with this game and watching your Nintendo friends play Mario 64 is the truest experience of regret, like taking out a second mortgage and immediately laying it down in full to bet on the wrong horse. This game is a marriage to the wrong woman, an unsigned prenup and a lengthy, devastating divorce all rolled into one. Sonic 3D Blast on the Sega Saturn is an overflowing cup of bitterness. It is the mouth of hell yawning before you with only eternity to anticipate. And as with the parable of Lazarus and the rich man, so it shall be for you. You will gaze up toward the heavens and see the Nintendo kids rejoicing in the bosom of Mario. You shall cry out from your everlasting torment, begging for a single drop of genuine 3D platforming. And you will be denied...at least until next Christmas.
Also it had some good music. Both versions did.
@@bobbob3470 Whatever drugs you're on, pass me some. If you can alter your perception of reality far enough to declare *THIS* archaic isometric dumpster fire better than Mario 64, then I'll have what you're having
@@MelancoliaI mario 64 has ugly ugly uuuugggly graphics and boring gameplay you just do the same thing 150 or whatever times
Just imagine a remake of this since his 30th will cover the dreamcast with remakes of sa1 and sa2 why not cover the Saturn on his 35 anniversary.
This will make a perfect Avgn video
I remember playing the first level via a shady website when I was 7 and feeling nothing but confusion. I already played adventure and the genesis trilogy so this was weird
My 90's video game childhood😊
A Tec Toy trouxe as duas versões desse game pra cá... É uma razão de se jogar nele... Literalmente!!!
The special stage is beautiful! Unlike the PC and Genesis version.
I did own a copy of this game on the PC,the controls took some getting use to I will admit that much. though this time around if I can get a new copy of the game I'm using a controller,no more using a keyboard to play a game like this.
Opening the disc drive during the game, would that get a level select screen? Cause in the Genesis/Mega Drive version if you smack the cartridge during the game you get a level select cheat.
I love my Saturn and have so many good memories besides it has lots of underrated games my favorite will always be nights into dreams but I love sonic 3d blast on it
You are a vicius to the videogames.
The 3D bonus stages are very similar to Sonic 2 on Mega Drive but these are still impressive for a 2D console.
@@joshuaallen1340 Yes the Saturn is a 2D powerhouse able to do 3D using tricks only PS1 and the beastly N64 where designed for 3D gaming.
Nice job. That's some fine Sega Saturn gamesmanship! I'm 54. I own it.
El sonic de " Sonic 3D Blast"me parece muy tierno
Man these graphics are better than the genesis. Plus the special stage is is a lot like the one in sonic 2.
My favorite sonic game
What The Frick... THE GAME OVER MUSIC, GOD. Also, The True Final Boss Is A Lot More Epic In This Version.
I LUV SONIC 3D BLAST FOR SATURN !!!!
I'd say this is the better version compared to the Genesis one.
Epic soundtrack, great sounds and well detailed surroundings.
Yes, a 1996 game on a 1994 platform is better than a 1996 game on a 1988 platform, but when both versions had come out, a reviewer said it was a very impressive Genesis game but a somewhat underwhelming Saturn game, because of how good a technical achievement it was on the Genesis but how under-utilising of the Saturn it was, even with the enhancements.
@@RWL2012The original poster was just saying that this version was better; that’s it.
The soundtrack is ass, the sounds are generic and the surroundings have no unique charm.
Nice, I remember renting this for the Saturn.
I wish there were a remake where the camera was behind sonic so it could be an actual open world 3D game and the game models looked closer to sonic generations I’d do it myself but I don’t have a good pc and I don’t know how to do things like that
I tried playing this thru the Sonic Mega Collection on PS2 but god the controls are so wonky and moving in a pov like this is so hard and a pain to do
1:51 so that's what sonic speed simulator green hill music came from.
The music that stuck with me is Megadrive's green grove act 1 and this version's special stage
I loved playing this game when I bought the Sonic Mega Collections Plus for XBox back in my teens. Thanks for uploading. Btw, what song is that on that level around 18:20?
THE MUSIC MAN!
This needs to be ported for the Nintendo Switch
So much nostalgia
The intro would of the video would imagine if Sonic on speed?...
No pun intended
I literally could not comprehend this comment in the slightest, why's there so many thumbs up
This Is miles (no intended) better than the Genesis verison I would actually play this if I could find any Sega Saturn's in a swap meet here in The United States
Finally I found a game that can run on my PC.
These special states rock and it baffles me that this is never the version that gets ported nowadays.
This sound track reminds me of that Pure Moods Cd from the 90s
Mondays are awesome!
I love sonic 3d blast
I had the cheat codes to this game. Messed up part about this game is that I could never save my progress. No memory card.
GUYS! The director of the genesis version is making a directors cut of the original game!
Save feature, glitches fixed, bugs squashed!
HYPE!
This game will always be canon to me.
This game definitely has some of the most underrated music in the franchise.
Wait... what does underrated mean? xD
