  • Saturday July 22 2017 at 6.41 am. The 6.38 Lancaster to Morecambe (6.49) train, the first of 50 that trundle slowly along this 4 mile long branch line each day. This is Bare Lane in Morecambe, Lancashire a seaside resort of 35,000 people south of the Lake District and the nearest level crossing north of Blackpool (40 miles away). The station announcement can be heard as well as the train pulling into the station. 257 people use Bare Lane station each day, the only intermediate station on the line. Just before Christmas 2015 high winds tripped the mechanism so the lights came on and the barriers lowered. The barriers failed 2 months ago too. Eric Morecambe, the country's top comedian until his death in 1984, took his name from here and has a statue on the front. One minute of the wait here was cut.
