That's because there was no strategy, he said as much himself at the start of the video. Webb was never any good at race tactics, so he mostly just depended on his insane physical gifts to carry him as far as they could on their own.
Did Alan Webb ever do anything at the international level? I can't remember him doing a single thing. In Belgium or Holland an entire race was set up with pace makers tailored to Webb to run a fast mile which he did, 3:46 something. But it wasn't competition and certainly not on an international level? Just like Robby Andrews a total zero at the Olympics and world championships. Andrews did win an individual NCAA event, the 800m champion in 2009 I believe 🙏
@@THendy1411 Oh stop being a whiny sissy and baby lol. He's only talking from a fans perspective. You're acting like a fan cant have views on runners they watch 🤔
Ironically, he was coached by Salazar at the end of his career briefly and I think Salazar wanted him to lose weight basically ending his running career. Oddly, he joined that group when Kara, Dathan, Rupp were in the group so how come he was never asked about Salazar post Alberto's ban from Track and Field.
@@igloozoo3771he wasn’t with Salazar very long, but when he was he was the best he had been in years! I always thought he should have given Salazar a few years to see what would happen
@@mathewconstable2514 it is interesting to compare the careers of Willis and Webb, they were more or less contemporaries. My bet is that Webb would happily give up his American mile record for either one of Willis Olympic medals, but Willis not so much the other way around.
Alan Webb's race strategy was so perplexing.

Who are you to talk
He was definitely mercurial, but he did have a signature victory in Paris in '07. Beat Baala of France and won with a time of 3:30, I think.

21 years old !! he looked like 30 !
and balding...1+1 = 2
5+5=tren
He’s a cheat.
@@combatbeatdown how so?
to be fair, he was 0.26 off qualifying by time. fast heat, and he was young.
And how old do you think Willis was there??
Webb, Lagat (pre-USA) & Willis in the same race!
2008 medalists, Willis and Baala in the same race.
@@johnstirling9120 Not that Willis was mentioned even once, despite coming third

" I have not strategy, I ll see how the race develops...", well.... " Fail to prepare, and prepare to fail.."
Justwasn't his day
back when Americans sucked in international competition.
What are you talking about? Our medal count was still the best back then.
Let's see what excuses the yanks come up as to why webb lost.
His juice wasn’t as good the Brits’😂
Nobody cares dude
