  • Revised pros and cons video of living in Wichita, Kansas. WE talk about the PROS Affordable, little traffic, easy to get around, Wichita State Shockers basketball, the new Amazon facility coming, the great YMCAs and other newer fitness centers, lake fun, NCAA coming back in 2025 and Intrust Arena. We also discuss the CONS.....No professional sports teams, expensive and more difficult with airline travel (but we have a newer airport), less to do here fewer restaurants and shopping. chaotic weather, no great scenery (according to some...I love the wide open spaces).

I lived in Wichita from the mid 70's to all through the 80's. Everything you said is true but even though I longed for the greener grass while I was here, I can't deny that the experiences I had and the bonds I formed were the most profound of my life! I have fond memories of Joyland too!

I hear that often some people want to leave and check out the big city and then learn to appreciate it later. And yes I hear Joyland mentioned all the time still. very nostalgic.

I'm from Western Kansas and I moved here for school, met my husband and never looked back! It has a small town feel even though it's the biggest city in Kansas. I wish there were more attractions sometimes, but that can be said about any city! I love that wr have a very diverse culture and cuisine, even though I tend to go back yo my dame favorite local spots. I also love that living in Kansas is economical affordable! We also have some of the best Healthcare in Kansas

We lived in Wichita for many years. Graduated from WSU, worked at Wesley Med Center and also sold real estate in the 80s & 90s. It's a great place to raise a family and fairly close to several larger cities for "high class" entertainment! Big advantage is less traffic, as compared to Denver or Houston, and the people are great! Karen, I love your sales pitch! Thanks.

Nice work, pretty thorough, and appreciate the on-the-ground picture. I'm looking at Wichita as one of several possible places to live, and have studied it pretty closely for 5-6 months. Of course, that's just "study" and I've been out of the country too, so I have no idea about the real feel there. Having said that... on the PRO side, couldn't agree more about housing - in my searching, it offers some of the best, most varied, attractively priced housing stock I've seen, and in larger quantity than all other cities I've looked at - Craftsman, Ranch, Contemporary, along with some nice lot sizes! On the weather, actually I think one of the +'s is that you get the four seasons, but not super-buried in the winter, like the upper midwest. Variety in the city of things to do looks good to me, and I wonder if we aren't moving to an era where people would rather see minor league sports than hyped, politicised pro sports? Well, on the CON side... I would have to say the big gorilla in the room is crime. Any Google search term using crime+Wichita is going to deliver some bad stats. In my own search, I have tried to write this off as much as possible, noting that it stems from commercial areas and current higher than average unemployment. The crime per 100k people is... simply bad. Also, on the airport side of things it was interesting to hear your take on it. For me, I care less about stops and destinations than Noise. I'm paying attention to Noise maps on Realtor - both the military and civilian airport generate some High noise levels going over localised areas based on flight paths. For me, if my searched house has a high noise designation, I drop it - that's just me. Anyway... to me this city really offers a lot, and I'm excited to visit.

It will be harder without a car. They have a free Q line downtown ish for bars and a transit system. Just not sure how great the transit system is. You could google and check route time and availability. But I would call the transit authority directly for more info

Colleges typically do you may want to check the graduate program you’re going into. When I was a graduate student at San Diego State University I intern for a finance department and I thought communications 101 but those were not paying positions. But usually they have on-campus jobs where they’re at the food court etc. But I would jump on the Wichita State University website or talk to somebody in the program you’re looking at.

Public transportation is really bad in Wichita.
The busses on the main roads come twice an hour.

Is it true that despite being such a low population area the crime is high? I hear meth is a huuuuge issue there. And I don’t understand why such a Christian community is using so much meth and why there is so much meth related crimes. I read the Sheriff said and I quote: “crime is going down because price of meth has dropped significantly. The market is saturated with meth.”
