My go-to is deviled eggs. I put eggs in a pan with water and place the pan on high. When the water comes to a boil I place a lid on the pan and turn off the burner for 20 minutes. Empty pan and run cold water over the eggs. I peel them then cool in fridge for about an hour. Take out and cut them in half. Place yolks in a bowl with avocado mayo, a squirt of yellow mustard and a pinch of celery salt, mash until smooth. Place yolk mixture in a sandwich baggie and cut the corner to pipe into the halves. Sprinkle with paprika. Eat and enjoy!

Our church has something called Nourish Tables… It’s six women meet for dinner at one hosts house one day a month for six months, two hours, and we discuss four questions after our table after our meal… I have been a host for the last six months and has been such a positive experience, and we have really built some amazing friendships from it.

I am part of a "Life Group" through my church. We meet almost every Saturday evening. One of the things the hostess often has (among other goodies) is water and popcorn! I am blessed in that I get the privilege of leading us in worship. It truly is my ministry calling, and the group loves it. I am so blessed to lead, and grateful that I learned to play the guitar when I was in Jr. High. It's a lot easier to pack around than a piano - although I wish I knew that as well! Never too late!
Thank you Diana (and Dawn) for these videos. Your encouragement is so appreciated in this harried world. God bless you both - and your families!

Ice Cream buffet is my go to dessert. 4 quarts of different flavors. Always chocolate and vanilla. I have a round spinning serving tray of toppings 3 syrups, sprinkles, chopped nuts, & spray wipping cream and maraschino cherries. I have small sundae dishes. 🍨 I f there's a holiday like Valentines Day I'll change my dessert to chocolates. A few bags of different varieties of chocolates. Easy Peasy.

We did an ice cream buffet several years ago when my cousin, her husband and their 8 children were visiting for the weekend. As everyone lined up, my cousin's husband stepped in to make sundaes for his younger kids. When I asked him what he was doing he said he didn't want the kids to make a mess. (Bless his heart.) I told him that half the fun was making your own sundae and I would happily clean up any mess his kids made.
Interestingly, the only real mess that weekend was when my cousin dropped a plate of pasta and marinara sauce went all over my dining room windows, curtains, wall, and floor.

You have reminded me of one of the happiest times of my life - in the 1980s we used to get together weekly at a friend's house to watch Dynasty and eat an amazing meal - our friend loves to cook and wanted a good reason to do so in a big way. She was widowed young and how she coped was by creating the setting for the gathering. We brought the wine and she cooked every course, gladly. I am not actually much of a wine drinker but those Wednesdays are cherished to me because of the real fellow-feeling and community she inspired. It is 30 years later now and we have all dispersed, but I will always remember how good it felt to be together, and the food underscored and cemented the gathering. Such a delight to watch your video today!

As much as I enjoyed this, I felt sad because my son has severe food allergies, and it limits my opportunities. Even when I tell people I have provided the food, they want to bring their own specialties (which I normally would have enjoyed. These containwhat Icall "contraband", and then I have to scour the entire house when everyone leaves. For several years, I did this, but as I have gotten older, I am physically unable to do so. This also keeps my son unable to participate.
Meals are such an important part of our culture. It saddens me how limited my son is in social opportunities. I do host Bible studies where I offer only drinks- water, coffee, tea. Please pray for him and others who are hampered by physical disabilities.

Good video, thanks, this makes me think of a book I recently finished and I can’t stop thinking about it. Teatime Discipleship by Sally Clarkson. Her and her husband were missionaries for many years and Sally would just invite people to tea and make connections with these woman who were all hungry for connection but soon she discovered a hunger for Jesus and things progressed from there. It’s an easy read and she makes it all look so easy, any community could start this or just 1 person. It’s a good read.

Love this video! I agree that food is vital to gatherings of any kind. I also always have a dip or appetizer before dinner that people can munch on right when they arrive! I've had too many dinners take longer to cook than I thought! I've also learned not to assume other people will have food when my kids and I come over for a play date, so I always bring muffins or something to share. Participating in a class or hobby or church group that has the same people week after week builds familiarity and helps the social side evolve naturally. It's easier for a chat to evolve into grabbing a cup of coffee when you're already out. : - )

Yes! Community is SO important. I'm still working on finding community after moving to a new state. We have found a church. One tip I would say to is to have some healthy food or even just have coffee/tea. Sooo many people struggle with weight and it seems all social events center around food.

    • @bellaluce7088

Totally agree about having a healthy option. One of my go-tos is hummus (I love the red pepper hummus at Trader Joe's) with baby carrots and/or snap peas. People also raved about a super simple salad I used to make with Trader Joe's broccoli slaw, sliced almonds, raisins, and their cilantro garlic dressing they discontinued. Just mix the night before so the flavors can develop and refrigerate.
Some other salads that have gotten raves are greens with balsamic vinaigrette, oranges and avocado, or apples, pecans, and blue cheese crumbles. So delicious!

My super-easy idea for the next time I want to bring something savory to a potluck: bake some frozen meatballs (from IKEA or the supermarket) on parchment paper to minimize cleanup, put them on a platter with toothpicks stuck in them and/or on the side. My mom used to make meatballs as party food and it just occurred to me I can use frozen.
For something sweet, I always make something from Dawn's Bundt cake e-book. Here in Switzerland the two kinds of cake mix that she uses that are available are chocolate and lemon, so her chocolate and lemon cakes have become standards in this household in the past few months since I bought the book. Three of four kids have had birthdays in that time, plus my birthday, and they have been the cake to bring to school and for the birthday part at our place. (Major decluttering inspired by Dawn has made it so our house is never a complete disaster anymore and it's way less stress to host parties). I use vanilla pudding mix instead of lemon and lemon curd, which they sell in the jam section, for the lemon pie filling. I also just discovered that I can add frozen raspberries instead of lemon curd for a delicious lemon-raspberry cake!

Are there busy young moms around you, or sick people, that would be blessed by having a meal/casserole dropped off at their house? That's a little different than hosting people, but it still creates a connection and is a blessing.
I also know of a lady that has a special freezer that she keeps stocked with ready-made food, and anyone in the community is welcome to come by to get something anytime they want. She has a donation jar there and people pay what they're able to. Again, it creates connection and is a blessing.

I know this may not be what you want to hear, but I think the problem is that your own insecurities are sabotaging your efforts. For me, once I realized that Jesus loves me and satisfies all my needs, I felt confident and free to invest in others without needing them to meet all my needs, to respond the way I needed and expected.
Dig into the word, learn who you are in Christ, join a bible teaching church, join a group, focus on others. As Diane quoted that author's mother, "Be a blessing". Try not to only look at relationships as what you will get out of them, but how you can bless others. I know from my own experience and insecurities, people aren't thinking about me or doing things "to me" (rejecting or ignoring) as much as I think they are and are oftentimes struggling with their own insecurities.

    • @bellaluce7088
      @bellaluce7088 Рік тому +1

@lisachapman9911 You're not alone in this! For me it stemmed from severe emotional neglect in childhood plus simple lack of practice with kind, courteous people. But lots of people experience it. It's very common in ADHD, so *googling tips for rejection sensitivity + ADHD brings up good practical tips.* I also LOVE Ellen Hendriksen's book *How to Be Yourself: Quiet Your Inner Critic and Rise Above Social Anxiety.*
One of my favorite tips from the book is finding a role to perform when in group settings, for example greeting guests and telling them where things are, or helping with the food. Also participating in a class or hobby group you're interested in that meets regularly with the same people. The activity takes the intensity off the social aspect, and familiarity from week to week makes it more natural to chat a bit or grab a cup of coffee afterwards.
For anyone with a tricky childhood, I think it's also so helpful to just give ourselves some grace for the fact that it's okay and *normal* that being around people is harder for us.
It helped me so much when I realized I'd been programmed that I wasn't *allowed* to validate my own feelings, thoughts, and worth. Reclaiming that right allowed me to be a friend to mySELF, and built my resilience for risking more with others. : - )
      Good wishes to you!

Sometimes it takes us making the effort. I've been there you when I had my home day care. It was so tough hardly ever being around adults. Now, I'm around other homeschool moms regularly, and I feel like it's made all the difference! Because of how much it's helped me to have, like minded Christian homeschool mom friends, I'm hoping to start a homeschool moms night out where we all bring snacks to share, have someone share a devotional and then have a speaker or veteran homeschool moms speak on different homeschool topics each month, hoping it'll bring Christian moms together and help others discover friends like that.

I am in my 60’s and hate cooking and always on a limited budget. I have also dealt with a lot of good issues over the years and it really complicates things for me so I came to the point of having friends over after meals like afternoon or morning and we would chat and have a deep prayer time sharing our heart requests and then taking the time to pray together. They became such close friends and most of the time I didn’t even serve water most of the time Or sometimes I just serve coffee and tea. but had the space we met in comfortable and sometimes a candle lit. They were all very busy people and having me set the date for the group etc was something they really appreciated.

Could you do a video on what you need and love to have with a new baby as a minimalist? Starting over after 9 year gap in kids and I’m overwhelmed with what to buy. We have started decluttering a couple years ago but I haven’t got to full minimalist yet that we want to be. In order to make room for baby we’re going to have to get rid of a lot more and clean out our garage and close it in. Anyway looking at baby gear it’s all changes since my last and all the nursing supplies etc it’s overwhelming. I don’t want to work hard to clear all the space and then just fill it up but I definitely want to have everything I need or that makes life a lot smoother with baby. I keep putting off my registry because it’s hard to know what to put on it.

I have an 8 ingredient better than lipton onion dip recipe. It's still time consuming - but you can freeze the caramelized onions and make them in bulk (I did 8 lbs worth) and freeze them. I have a 1 minute quick vid, 5 minute detailed, or 90minute real time (includes slicing and caramelizing the 8lbs of onions) on my channel.
The first time I made it.. even after a full thanksgiving feast people were going to get spatulas to scrap the bowl and eat it straight because we ran out of chips. Absolutely worth it!
    Joanna's is probably fabulous too!

I have a quick pesto dip recipe. It's an appetizer. One eight ounce block of cream cheese, one seven ounce container of buitoni pesto and two teaspoons diced pimento. Mix with hand mixer and put in fridge. Don't worry about softening the cream cheese, it mixes easily with the pesto. I prefer making it the day before to allow the flavor to develop. I serve it with sourdough baguette slices. I get so many compliments on this. It's so easy to make.

The kids ate the cooled off fried cakes with their hands. The children played while us moms talked, prayed and praised the Lord. I moved away and miss them dearly! One of the Moms would play guitar and sang worship songs!! It was amazing!! Lots of happy tears!

It seems like nobody wants to take the first step to host and plan but when I do we have so much fun and it gets easier and friendships are cultivated while not going over the top with food etc or overthinking it. The Bible speaks of us having friends and to show ourselves friendly.😊

I led a Moms in Prayer Group for about 12 years. I didn't host and for many years we used my church. Those ladies were such an important part of my life. Most of the time I didn't see them much outside that one hour. The bond in prayer is so incredible. Even after kids graduated, moms stayed in the group and we kept praying for all our kids in school or not. Not exactly the way MIP suggests doing it but it worked for us.

A very easy go to recipe, Easy lemon bars, 1 21 ounce can lemon pie filling and 1 box angel food cake mix(type that you just add water if making a cake). Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Hand mix the 2 ingredients together and pour into a greased 9 x 13 dish. Bake 30 minutes. Cool and dust with powdered sugar, cut into bars and serve! Or add your own toppings! Enjoy! Thank you! I look forward to your videos each week!

A lady in my local area offered a free watercolor class so a bunch of friends got together to do that and it was so fun! We’ve since gotten together again to watercolor.
Another fun thing I did with friends was a cupcake decorating class. I found a lady on Facebook who would do a class up to ten people and she brought all the supplies (I think it was $30 per person). Everyone went home with six beautiful cupcakes decorated like different flowers and we had the best time!

Each month some of the ladies from my church get together at someone's house and have a potluck lunch and then a Bible study. I started taking Taco Salad because it's so easy. I took Dawn's advice that it's ok to take the same thing every time. And now, if I take something else, they give me a hard time. So now I joke that I *have* to take Taco Salad or they'll kick me out. lol.
