  • There will be cases when you would want to share the Bill of Materials with someone who doesn't have access to SolidWorks, in such scenario SolidWorks allows you to export BOM in file formats like excel or any other formats that most people have access to. In this tech tip video we show you how to export Assembly BOM in excel to share the product composition with the wider audience.

    Thanks for the video! I have a question though. All the thumbnails are locked/immoveable after exporting my BOM to excel. I'd like to move some of the thumbnails, but this is not possible as they all are locked. Is this solveable?

    Is there any way that I can have SolidWorks use a specific Excel template to start from? That way the page layout, headers, company logos, etc. can be already the way I want them.

      That is with macro. You can read the part propierties of your assembly and then write them into your Excel template. Im not good at macros, I export the excel file as csv, and then execute a python script to read the csv and write the information of the rows in an excel template.
